Chapter 13: Developing Psychokinesis (Part 1)
Moonlight bathed the land, stars shimmered above.
On Green Cliff, Luo Han and Cole lay in silence, each lost in thought.
"Let's go back, Cole," Luo Han said, standing up and stretching. "I've found my path now. Once I've developed my ability, I'll show you something that'll blow your mind! Haha!"
"Ah… okay, Han-ge!" Cole responded while wiping drool from the corner of his mouth.
…Luo Han held his forehead in exasperation.
"Let's go to bed."
"Mm-hmm!"
…
The next morning, Luo Han got up early.
He began meditating. He wasn't sure if it would help develop his Devil Fruit ability, but he believed in it. From today on, he'd meditate for one hour every morning.
…Time passed quickly. After an hour, there wasn't much to show for it.
By then, Granny Mo had finished making breakfast. After eating, Luo Han went to Cole's house to fetch him, and together they headed to the plaza for morning training.
On the plaza, Luo Han focused closely on how the Fish Scale Fruit and the military boxing influenced his body.
He now understood that the reason he became so skinny after yesterday's training was because of the influence of his Mind Fruit.
He had discovered a new trait of the Mind Fruit's powers.
Though it couldn't directly affect the external world, it could affect the user's own body.
Most notably, it allowed Luo Han to perceive physical changes in his body with exceptional clarity—and even subtly guide them.
That's why the transformation caused by the Fish Scale Fruit had accelerated: the Mind Fruit's power had unknowingly sped up the process.
Normally, the transformation was slow and gradual—even with Rainbowfish as a supplement, it would take years.
Yet Luo Han, under the influence of his Mind Fruit, had undergone a year's worth of transformation in a single morning.
Since he didn't have the energy to sustain that, his body compensated for it—leading to the rapid weight loss.
So this time, Luo Han didn't allow the Mind Fruit to guide the transformation unconsciously. He deliberately slowed it down, and stopped when his energy was nearly depleted.
Even so, he reached his daily transformation quota quickly.
When Luo Han stopped training, the others were still going—there were two hours left.
"Brother Ryan," Luo Han said as he approached. "I feel like my body's already at its limit. If I keep going, I'll end up like yesterday."
"Huh? Didn't you overtrain yesterday? That's why that happened," Brother Ryan replied, confused.
I wish! Luo Han thought with a bitter expression.
"Uncle Witt said yesterday that my physical aptitude is too poor. So I can't train as long as everyone else."
"I see… this is the first time I've seen something like that," Ryan said in surprise.
"Alright, go ahead and rest."
"Thanks, I'll head back then."
Luo Han informed Cole and left. The other kids at the plaza watched him go, confused.
Back home, it was still early. Granny Mo wasn't back yet.
He noticed some firewood stacked in the corner and picked out two sticks of different lengths.
Closing his eyes, he tried using Observation Haki to sense them…
Nope. Nothing.
Apparently only Roger's level of Observation Haki could hear the "voices" of inanimate objects—their aura.
Luo Han reflected. Psychokinesis, as a concept, was about the mind influencing reality. To realize this kind of power, the key was will.
If his Observation Haki could reach the level of hearing all things, it would be much easier to materialize willpower into reality.
But clearly, even with his Mind Fruit and awakened Observation Haki, Luo Han's talents were lacking.
He had thought he was gifted—but reality slapped him in the face. His so-called transmigrator's "cheat" amounted to nothing more than having read a few novels and watched some anime. No system. No genius-level talent.
Back to the topic.
Directly manifesting willpower was too vague and almost impossible to succeed at. Luo Han had already tried to visualize the concept of psychokinesis, then shape it using his Mind Fruit.
But it hadn't worked. Something was missing—a method or a path.
He figured Mind Manifestation needed a specific trait or anchor point to succeed. That would improve the success rate.
Analyzing psychokinesis, Luo Han broke it into two types in his understanding:
A force generated by will that acts directly on an object.A more Eastern-style concept of infusing one's will into an object, allowing one to control it like an extension of the body.
Both types required one fundamental thing: manifesting willpower. Which was also the hardest part.
The first kind had an additional layer—will generating force. But how could will become force? There had to be some medium to convert it.
If Luo Han could find that medium, he could reverse-engineer willpower into force.
But that "medium" was the real problem—it wasn't something easily discovered.
However, the second type—infusing will into objects—gave him inspiration.
If an infused object became like a limb, then he had to know its shape intimately.
So, if Luo Han could perceive the form of an object through his Mind Fruit and Observation Haki, he could turn that perception into a conceptual model, which could then be manifested.
That would mean the will itself had been materialized.
With this in mind, Luo Han decided to pursue both methods at once. Whichever succeeded first would be the way forward.
He took two sticks of different lengths. Using Observation Haki and his Mind Fruit, he began to sense their shapes—to train his perception.
As for the first method…
Still no clue. He had no idea how to identify or harness that converting "medium."
Sigh… one step at a time.
By now, the sun had risen high—it was time to make lunch.
Luo Han began preparing the meal with practiced ease.
At noon:
"Xiao Han, I'm back!" Granny Mo entered and saw the food already ready.
"You already made lunch? Such a good boy!" she said warmly.
"Hehe, let's eat, Grandma." Luo Han helped her to the table.
After eating, Luo Han and Cole went to the first-level plaza.
By then, most of the older men had already gone into the water.
They waited on the plaza for half an hour before Uncle Witt returned.
Soon, the others surfaced too, each carrying one or two rainbowfish, just like the day before.
"Good luck out there, Little Luo Han and Little Cole! Us uncles are waiting for your performance! Hahaha!" the group of disabled veterans laughed loudly. Despite everything, it was a heartwarming scene.
Sigh… everyone else got to spar. Luo Han was the only one getting beat up. He suffered in silence.
And so it began again. Luo Han couldn't last more than a few exchanges.
Yesterday, he could at least support Cole by occasionally distracting Uncle Witt.
Now, he couldn't even do that. Every time he tried to join, he got flung back instantly.
Cole's talent was on a whole other level—it made Luo Han, the supposed transmigrator protagonist, green with envy.
"Luo Han, just focus on developing your Devil Fruit powers," Uncle Witt finally said, realizing Luo Han wasn't yet suited for the special training.
"There's no one here who can help you with that. You're on your own."
"…Okay. I understand, Uncle Witt," Luo Han replied weakly.
He sat down, pulled out the two wooden sticks, and closed his eyes—merging Observation Haki with his Mind Fruit to sense their shape.
