Chapter 15: Developing Psychokinesis (Part 2)
In the afternoon, Ring Tree Island was awash in rainbow light reflected off the divine lake, casting an ethereal glow over the divine tree—it looked like a slice of paradise.
On the first-level plaza, the father-son battle between Cole and Uncle Witt continued. As their sparring progressed, Cole's improvement was visible to the naked eye.
He seemed to possess an innate combat intuition, instantly picking up on techniques. Combined with his astonishing physical talent, he looked like a future Yonko in the making.
As for Luo Han? That was another story entirely.
"What's Little Luo Han doing? Some kind of special training?"
"No idea. Uncle Witt said his Devil Fruit requires someone smart to truly develop."
"Maybe this is what smart people do! Hahaha!"
The older men watched Luo Han sitting cross-legged, eyes shut, and murmured among themselves.
Though his eyes were closed, Luo Han could still hear their chatter clearly thanks to his Observation Haki.
Sigh… It wasn't going well. Observation Haki couldn't pick up the aura of the wooden sticks—much less their shapes.
If only I had Roger's "Voice of All Things," Luo Han thought. Back on Skypiea, Roger had inscribed the same Poneglyph text despite not being a scholar.
That meant his Haki not only interpreted the meaning but also the shape of the writing.
Of course, maybe Kozuki Oden had helped…
Still, if Luo Han's Observation Haki could be like Roger's, manifesting his willpower would be much easier.
Instead, here he was—sitting around doing nothing, "meditating."
…
Ten days passed like this.
Luo Han still couldn't sense the shape of the two sticks—not even detect them, let alone form a mental image.
He was getting anxious. This couldn't go on.
Watching Cole's rapid progress only filled him with envy.
Meanwhile, on the plaza, two "beasts"—one large, one small—clashed every afternoon in fierce combat.
Boom! Boom! Boom! echoed across the plaza nonstop.
Cole had probably hit 1.9 meters tall by now. Over the next four years, he'd likely grow to match Uncle Witt's height.
"Keep going, Cole! Faster! Stronger!" Uncle Witt's roar rang out again.
Then came a thunderous bang! Cole was slammed into the ground.
He stood up once more, gasping, his breath echoing across the plaza like a loudspeaker.
This time, instead of charging right back in, he paused—like a beast preparing its next strike.
His muscles rippled rapidly, coiling like compressed springs, building up energy.
"He's already grasped a personal combat technique?" Uncle Witt's eyes widened with joy.
My son's talent really is beyond mine! Hahaha! Let's see what you've got!
Whoosh! In Luo Han's eyes, Cole vanished and reappeared right in front of Uncle Witt.
In that instant, his muscle compression reached its peak, and the explosive force channeled through his punch into Uncle Witt's abdomen.
It was like a hammer slamming steel. The shockwave blasted through Uncle Witt, striking the divine tree in the distance with a deafening sonic boom.
Everyone's mouths hung open.
That kind of power—at his age? Unreal!
Uncle Witt stood frozen, eyes gleaming with joy and expectation as he stared at Cole.
"Let's hope Luo Han finds his path to power soon too," he murmured, glancing over at Luo Han, who watched in awe.
He had high hopes for Luo Han as well—curious to see just how far he could take his Devil Fruit.
Turning back to Cole, he nodded.
"That's enough for today, Cole," he said. "Focus on feeling out that power and refining your technique."
"Huff… okay, Dad," Cole replied, clearly drained from his final strike.
"You're incredible, Cole!"
"Yeah! To master a slash-like technique at that age…"
"He's gonna be another Uncle Witt—or even stronger!"
"Hahaha!"
The older men crowded around Cole, full of praise.
Luo Han was happy for him too—both genuinely glad and because he had finally figured something out.
Seeing Cole unleash a strike like a swordsman's slash gave Luo Han an idea. Maybe the key to willpower-based force was similar to the "carrier" that allowed Cole's punch to project invisible energy.
A regular person's punch might stir air, but that's it. Only with a medium could the force truly extend outward.
Compared to the abstract concept of psychic force, Cole's visible strikes were tangible—real and easier to analyze.
So now Luo Han had two options for perceiving this "carrier" medium:
Observe Cole's state when he strikes. The upside? He could start immediately. The downside? It wasn't his own experience, so it might not work. But it was better than sitting around meditating all day.Learn to punch like Cole. Once he could do it, he'd naturally sense the carrier medium.
Of course, with his poor physical aptitude, Luo Han could only comfort himself: I'll be the kind of guy who wins battles from ten kilometers away.
"Han-ge! How's it going? Did you make any progress?" Cole came over and asked.
He knew Luo Han had been developing his Mind Fruit—trying to detect the size of two wooden sticks with his eyes closed.
Cole didn't get it. Why use wooden sticks to develop powers? From his perspective, training a Devil Fruit just meant eating more. Hehe!
"Cole… hehe." Luo Han looked at him with a pleading gaze.
"Uh… Han-ge? What's wrong?" Cole looked confused. This wasn't the Luo Han he knew.
"I want us to spar—no, wait, you train while I observe. I want to study how you punch energy outward."
There was no way Luo Han would spar with Cole. Not unless he was stronger.
"Sure, Han-ge! I'll show you right now!" Cole stood and began preparing.
"No, no—don't rush. Not now!" Luo Han stopped him. "Let's start tomorrow. After you're done sparring with Uncle Witt, use that move once for me to observe."
Right now, that punch consumed too much energy. Once a day was enough—for now. When Cole got stronger, he could demonstrate more often.
"Alright! I'm starving anyway. Han-ge, let's eat!"
"Let's go."
After saying goodbye to Uncle Witt and the other men, Luo Han carried his rainbowfish and headed home with Cole.
In the days that followed, Luo Han continued training using both methods to develop different types of mind-based manifestation.
