Chapter 40 - Whose fault is it?

After walking around the penthouse for half an hour, wondering if she had made a mistake in agreeing to marry Jason Elena heard the sound of a car driving in.

She minded her business, she also contemplated if she should go back inside so that she would confront him when he goes in but, she decided against it. She was always known to be sensible and matured, she would better stick to that.

Unfortunately, Jason spotted her. It was very cold outside, so he was quite surprised to see her standing there staring into thin her, as her husband, though they didn't really behave like married couples, he felt he was responsible for her, so, it was only right for him to find out what the problem was and then see if he could help her in anyway.

Before Elena knew it, someone was standing right behind her.

"Elena." He called out in a husky voice.

She turned around, startled.

"You...!!" She was speechless.

Jason eyes wandered on her face.

"Yes, me,expecting someone else?" He asked, hands in his pockets.

She shook her head, before saying, "I thought you'd already gone in." Her face was quite strange. She seemed different, he just couldn't plac a finger on it, but he could tell that something had happened.

"What is it? What are you doing out here?" He looked around as he spoke.

Elena didn't look up at him, neither did she answer her immediately. She paused, thinking of a way she would say it so that she would sound nonchalant and not jealous, she didn't even believe she was jealous, no she wasn't jealous. She shook her head at her own thoughts. She asked him, still not looking at him,

"You don't expect me to sit down comfortably in the same house with your girlfriend who is patiently waiting for you, right?"

Jason froze momentarily when he heard her. Girlfriend? What girlfriend? He only had one girlfriend, and that was Melinda who had as in... Wait, he anxiously took heavy strides into the house.

Elena smiled bitterly. He must b too excited that he went in immediately, he didn't even explain anything, he was just too excited!

Why didn't he refuse to marry her if he had someone he already liked?

Of course it was just all about the company! Yes, but if she was in is shoes, Elena knew she wouldn't live the person she loved just for a company when she was also doing well for herself. What baffled her the most was that, he really didn't have much ideas on his father's company, he had been running a real estate company all his life, even a genius would have a problems running a company based on something else.

She walked in.

Jason was standing across Melinda who was still seated, looking at him quietly, though she looked very bitter and heart broken.

Elena wasn't ready to listen to whatever they might have to say to each other so, she walked up to her room.

Jason frowned when he saw the way she behaved, first thing first, he would have to handle Melinda's part.

After staring at him for some minutes, Melinda eyes broke. She sobbed, still seated, She felt too weak to even stand up.

"How could you do this to me? To us, Jason? Why? Am I not good enough to be your wife?"

Jason's head began to throb with headache.

Even if Elena hadn't showed up in the picture, he wasn't sure he would have been able to settle down with her. He felt nothing special for her, he just wanted someone by his side when he felt lonely, but she hadn't been able to fill up the empty space in his heart no matter how had she tried.

Now that he was married, his father would soon retire, he didn't think he would go back to, he had already decided to move his company's branch to new Jersey.

He had everything figured out. Why then did she come to new Jersey? He somehow felt guilty. Why? Because he had fought for his father's company.

He had been going to be the company to check how things was there, he also wanted to get acquitted with the staff there before he'd take over.

Melinda started sobbing when he didn't make any attempt to explain things to her, even if it was just an excuse, she would believe he was feeling bad for his actions. Jason's frown deepened as he massaged his head subconsciously.

"Stop it... Mel." He said getting annoyed.

She glared at her in disbelief. She sobbed even more.

"How could you? How can you break my heart and still find me annoying for crying?" Whose fault is it huh?, whose?" She yelled angrily, soundings like someone who has been badly treated.

Jason so badly wanted to go up so he would wash up and change into something else.
