For a long time after Elena left, Edward sat quietly dazed in his office.
No one could have been able to tell him she'd change her mind after last night's episode.He had been shocked on how fearless she had sounded, he had given up all hopes to save his company, but today, His hopes had sprawled out of control when she told him she had accepted to marry lucien's son. How could that be? had she only pretended to be so fierce the previous night? That couldn't be it, could it?
When he came out of his shocked state, Edward quickly made a call to Lucien, informing him they would go to his house to settle everything once and for all that weekend. The two men had ended the call on a happy note.
After the call, Lucien picked up the well covered file on his desk in his office. The butler arrived with a cup of coffee, he placed it on the table.
"Master, the job you asked me to take care of has been done."
Lucien calmly nodded before asking with concern. "So how do you see Edward's eldest daughter?
" She is a very beautiful woman, strong headed, calm and educated, I think she'll make a more finer wife for master's son." The butler bowed his head slightly as he spoke.
Lucien quickly flipped through the file, he paused when his eyes caught the picture of Edward's daughter when she was in an orphanage, holding the hand of a little boy when looked very muddy.
The butler continued." I don't think the one we saw the other day would be able to handle young master, further more, I found out that the eldest is an unfavourable daughter,
Edward seems less pleased with her, Jenifer is also not the mother of Edward's eldest daughter. The girl was said to have been engaged to one Mr Jacob Harris, who is now courting the younger sister. I found out Mr Edward had lied when he said she had gone to the orphanage, the girl is reluctant to get married to master's son, so she had sneaked out through the balcony, but she went back that same evening, going up to her room through the same balcony she had gone down from." He paused the invincible report he was reading. Lucien's eyebrows raised up in what could pass for amusement.
The butler continued.
" But she was caught by her younger sister who had been stationed in her room to wait for her."
Lucien frowned. He waved the butler away whilst in deep thoughts. The butler walked back to his duty post swiftly.
What could he have done to the young girl to have her change her mind all of a sudden? Had he imprisoned her in his home? Was she too helpless?
He decided to let the matter go calculating Edward's next move. Surely the man wouldn't cause any harm to her afterall he still needed her to save his company?
She was also his child, what harm could a father cause to his own daughter, who looked so petite? He couldn't even bring himself to hit his masculine son how much of a pretty little girl? He wondered, finally concluding that she was alright, and if he found out she wasn't, he would stop the marriage from happening, so they could go settle their family issues somewhere else. Wouldn't that be too cruel on his part? He was a cold man only to his competitors in the business world, how could he cause more harm to the girl?
He would just let them proceed with the marriage, then he would take good care of her like the daughter he never had.
Who would have thought Lucien was busy thinking about saving the girl who couldn't wait to meet his soon physically?
After breaking the what could be considered as a good news to her father, her stepmother and Cassy barged into her room unannounced.
Elena had gone back to bed because she had had a very stressful time the month before.She quickly sat up, rubbing her eyes continuously.
"What are you doing here?" She asked with a hoarse voice tinged with grumpiness.
" I wonder what father must have said to you to have you change your mind? Cassy voiced out. Juliet nodded in agreement.
" Hmm... You just spoke my mind, Cass, what dirty secret could you be hidding that your father had to use against you"
Elena was quite surprised to find out that they didn't eavesdrop on their conversation.
"Well, I see you came here this early to run salt in my wound, but rest assure, miladies, there is no injury or wound whatsoever in this case."
The mother and daughter's face fell when they heard her sharp tongue, she didn't wait for their comeback before she added, "Haven't you been the one coaching us, how could you have forgotten that a girl had to pretend and put up a show first before agreeing to such matters? She asked with a sinister smile.
Juliet frowned knowing how untrue her words were.
"Surely it couldn't have been i who thought you such a dishonourable logic but your skimming mother!!"She said in anger.
Elena shook her head ready to give her another reply. " Don't you think i was still too little to remember my mother's words? I truly believe it was no other person but you who told me so, I wonder if Cassy's brain is fully activated to remember." She turned to Cassy with a smirk on her face.
