Adam looked proudly at the three golems in front of him, three monsters standing two meters tall and looking like heavy knights, each of them inspiring respect and admiration. Standing next to them, Adam felt like a princess protected by a squad of elite knights.
Turning around them, he added, "Guys, all you need are weapons worthy of your stature, and you will clearly be the future pillars of my personal guard." Scratching the back of his head, he continued, "Small problem: I'm practically out of energy, barely enough to create a crappy knife, so I'm not sure I can create weapons worthy of the name for you right now."
Slightly embarrassed to have to let these three golems fight unarmed, Adam didn't really have a solution after spending the rest of his day working on them. Whether it was their design or their strength, he was fairly proud of them (after all, style is important; powerful attacks are good, but attacks with style are better). Each of these guys was capable of taking down five former Primos and getting out unscathed.
Staring at the slightly bigger golem in the middle with a crown symbol on its left chest, Adam felt his smile grow. "The stone armor fits you really well, Primo. And look at you, man, team leader now. You've got two little guys to manage. I'm counting on you, buddy." On the other hand, you're at least two times smarter than before, based on the size of your soul, but just as impassive as a stone. Seriously, you're taking the role of silent protector a little too seriously, I think. You're going to burn out."
Looking at Primo, who didn't move an inch, Adam sighed.
Turning his gaze to the sun, now extremely low in the sky, the day coming to an end, his survival game experience told him one thing: nighttime is usually synonymous with trouble, zombies, various monsters, and all kinds of paranormal events, never fun surprises.
While preparing the fire for the evening meal, Adam said to the golem beside him, "Sorry, guys, but this princess doesn't have any castles to welcome you, so you'll have to stand guard outside."
With the fire now ready, he took the leftover meat to make his second skewer of the day.
"Sure, you don't need to sleep, but I feel a little bad making you stand outside like statues all night. I don't even have a deck of cards to give you so you can become a cliché of a cheap guard who never sees anyone pass their guard perimeter and divulges all the important information to everyone who isn't deaf," Adam added.
Chewing his meal slowly, Adam frowned and grumbled, "This is a far cry from a balanced diet, two meals, two meat skewers, not a single vegetable or anything else."
Sighing, "I'm going to be able to find a solution, because in the long run, eating only meat is really not going to work."
Finishing his skewer, his gaze wandering into the distance, he saw something that surprised him halfway. "A column of smoke like that is clearly a small campfire like mine, so there's another person not too far from me."
Taking a sip of water, he thought, "I'm not sure if this is good news because in a group it's easier to survive, fight, and gather more resources, which are a lot of positives, but trusting a stranger in the current scenario, where at some point we're bound to go from friends to enemies, is really not practical for forming alliances."
Standing up and dusting himself off, he added, "We'll see tomorrow, but unless we're dealing with a madman who kills everyone, I think it's better to team up for now. Seriously, given the number of survivors, it won't be tomorrow that the final square will decide the winners. Given the speed at which people were vanishing from Earth and the number of people remaining at the time of my travel, if the pace of transport doesn't change, it will be at least two years before Earth is completely transported. So I have time to see how things unfold."
...
Watching the magnificent, vibrant sunset, the plains were peaceful as night fell. Tired, Adam lay down quietly in the grass in front of his tent, feeling fatigue setting in. "Time for bed, princess. We have to be in good shape tomorrow."
Entering the tent, Adam whispered, "Good night, guys. Good luck with the night watch."
Lying with his eyes closed in peaceful silence, Adam was quite happy with his day: a full stomach, a roof over his head, and three little friends.
...
"AWOOOOOOOO" In the distance, several wolf howls rang out, waking Adam with a shock.
Hearing the danger approaching, he got out of his tent and stood next to Primo to look around. Glancing left and right, he realized that the calm of the day was over, easy mode was over, and it was time to switch to true survival mode.
Seeing faintly in the dim light provided by the moon, all the plants in the surrounding area were dead, as if they had suffered years of drought. The tree behind him was dead, and there was no trace of the plain that had been vibrant with life as far as the eye could see during the day. Instead, his field of vision was filled with only a land of death and desolation, a horrifying and disturbing contrast.
He could feel his very soul trembling with discomfort and unease. The air during the day had given him a most pleasant feeling, like a warm hug from his mother, but now everything had disappeared. Even the air itself seemed strange, almost painful.
"Are we still in the same place, Primo? We must have been teleported, it can't be anything else, the change is too severe." Adam looked at Primo, his voice slightly trembling, all the confidence he had felt earlier gone.
"AWOOOOOOO!" The howling of wolves resumed, much closer than before.
Adam felt his blood run cold. He felt as if the Grim Reaper had placed his blade directly on his neck. The wolves were far too close for his liking. The air was far too heavy for his comfort, and the atmosphere was reminiscent of a horror movie, which was not the most pleasant feeling.
