Chapter 10 - The second night

Night had now fallen. Adam was lying on the floor of his hut. The situation was really uncomfortable, and it was far too early in the night for sleep to come. An immense curiosity consumed him, pushing him to look outside. It was difficult to resist, after all, excessive curiosity was a sin of pride.

(BOOM)

Outside, growls and sounds of combat rang out, exploding Adam's curiosity and making him desperate to see how the golems were doing.

Unable to resist, he made a hole in his hut large enough to see outside comfortably.

Peering outside to see, he was surprised to find that the golems were indeed fighting, but not against undead beasts, but against undead humans, and there were many of them, 15-20 at a glance.

...

Primo blocked the undead creature's attack on his right with his shield before following up with a powerful hammer blow to the one facing him. The moment the hammer struck the undead creature's chest, its body exploded around the point of impact, the upper half scattering into countless fragments of bone and flesh, while the lower half fell to the ground.

Skar had now cut down his fourth undead creature and lunged at the fifth, ignoring its sword strike, causing only a minor scratch on his body. He delivered a powerful front kick to its chest, sending the undead creature flying into the makeshift earth wall, its chest destroyed by the force of the kick.

Skar calmly adjusted his grip on one of his axes before throwing it violently at the pseudo-zombie, which lodged into its head, stopping all movement of the walking corpse.

Marching calmly to retrieve his axe, he saw an arrow fly past his shoulder and lodge itself in the head of an undead creature that was about to attack him from behind.

Turning his head, he gave Eagle a discreet nod before continuing on his way.

Eagle continued to scan the battlefield, making sure that none of his brothers in arms would be attacked from behind. The few remaining scattered undead did not cause him to lower his guard.

Titan stood silently guarding the entrance to the hut, having intercepted only one unwary creature that had come a little too close for his liking. Watching his teammate finish the fight in the distance, he had no intention of moving from his post anytime soon.

Iron, piercing the last undead creature, glanced around him.

Seeing no more opponents in his field of vision, he saw Primo, who had resumed digging the moat as the creator had ordered. Letting the body slide off his spear before falling, he joined Primo to dig. "Damn, at least 20 undead for sure, even some with weapons, and they got crushed like kids facing MMA fighters."

Proud of his golems, he added, "Guys, pile the bodies in a corner, then you can get back to digging. Be proud of yourselves, you were awesome!"

Lying down with a smile on his lips, Adam forced himself to sleep so he would be in good shape as early as possible the next day to help the little guys. "As they say, the future belongs to those who wake up early."

...

The sun rose calmly, the birds chirped, and a gentle day full of life was ahead.

The semblance of a door to Adam's hut disappeared, giving way to a young man full of life, ready for a hard day's work.

Looking around, Adam smiled slightly. "Guys, I love you. Damn, a night of fighting and not a single injury, and on top of that, you've made great progress. Look at that trench, F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C!"

Cracking his neck, he admired the progress of the work: the moat and the wall had advanced by a good third, with a pile of bodies right next to the wolf pit. "Okay, guys, energy reserves at full capacity, ambition at maximum, creativity on fire. I think it's time to bring you some support. Leave me a moment, your future brothers are the worker golems."

...

After half an hour of work, Adam finished creating two worker golems, one meter tall, with worker's helmets on their heads, dressed in work overalls with a toolbox hanging from their waists. They didn't have the majesty of the knight golems, but they had their own charm. No sooner had the twin worker brothers been created than they set to work.

"Hahaha, calm down, guys, you don't have any tools yet. Let me equip you. It'll only take five minutes." He was proud of the details he had added to their clothing; clearly, his precision had improved, but their toolboxes were only decorations for the moment.

A little work later, their equipment was complete: a set of shovels, pickaxes, axes, and hammers for each of them, and a wheelbarrow for the two of them, all made of stone so they wouldn't break too quickly.

Watching the new golems get to work with the appropriate tools with rather impressive efficiency. "Okay, Bob, Bab, I'll leave the construction of the base to you. Get ready for the big projects later on. You'll have a construction team to manage."

"Primo, Skar, Eagle, come on, let's go. We're going to look for more vegetables to salvage, plus two or three berry bushes to start the fields and a corner for berries." He walked towards the outside of the base and called some of the golems.

...

Several hours later...

Whistling quietly, Adam was practically walking back to his base, followed by the small squad with their arms full of all kinds of wild vegetables, Skar with his arms full of three whole berry bushes ready to be replanted. Primo was trailing behind him with a small apple tree, while Eagle and he carried the vegetable plans to start the fields.

"So, guys, I know it's a lot of work, but by tonight it will definitely be finished. Haha, too bad for you, I don't pay you, otherwise you would have gotten a bonus for efficiency. Don't forget to leave room for the entrance." He laughed, adding, "We'll need another project for tomorrow, otherwise you'll have nothing to do, Bob Bab."

Passing completely through the interior of the base, he deposited all the vegetables in a corner and dug three small areas away from the stream. He instructed Skar to replant the bushes, injecting them with a stream of life energy to ensure they were well integrated into their new home.

Joining Primo between the entrance to the hut and the base, he planted the apple tree and injected it with life energy too, helping it settle into its now home with Adam.

Before starting on the fields, Adam had a little idea they wanted to try out.
