Chapter 9 - A world full of possibilities

After walking for an hour, Adam was completely satisfied. The plain was truly overflowing with food, bushes filled with berries every few dozen meters, rabbits, horses, and various cattle regularly spotted in the distance.

He also heard a pack of wolves howling from afar, unsure whether they were living or undead.

Walking alongside Primo, dragging a rabbit in his hand, he said, "Honestly, Primo, this is really the perfect place to settle down, with plenty of food resources in the form of meat and fruit. We just need to build a proper fortress and then we'll never have to move again."

Looking around, Adam suddenly exclaimed, "Seriously, look, man, I'm almost sure that's wild wheat over there. We really have everything we need to start a small survival farm: cattle, fields, an area with bushes for berries... We're immortal with all this!"

Walking towards the wheat, Adam picked some up and slipped it into Eagle's quiver. "It's not great, but sorry, we don't really have any bags or anything to store it in."

...

30 minutes later...

(Crunch)

"Hmm, you know, Skar, I think I'm going to leave the scars the wolves gave you. If you get more like that, it'll look really cool, like a violent berserker. And anyway, given your name, you don't really have a choice." Chewing his apple, he added, "Well, I think we're almost there. The smoke didn't seem that far away yesterday."

Walking a few more minutes, he heard the sound of water to his left. "Perfect, water. Classic survival tactic, they're sure to have their camp by the water."

And about ten meters away, Adam was right. He saw the remains of a campfire and what appeared to be a wooden hut. The problem was the two bodies in terrible condition next to the hut.

Disgust written all over his face, he approached. "Damn, it really sucks here at night." Seeing the horrible wounds and the black, necrotic skin of the two corpses, their extreme injuries resembled the state of his arm last night. Given the state of the bodies, it was impossible to give a clear description of what they looked like.

"Not sure if they were wolves too, but they were definitely undead." Disgusted by what he saw, he went inside the hut in the hope of finding something interesting.

After searching for a few moments, "A GRIMOIRE, DAMN IT! It doesn't disappear after death, seriously? Hey, God, that's the kind of important information you need to give me next time, please."

Now aware of this information, which seemed rather important to him, he checked the grimoire.

Leafing through a few pages of the grimoire, he laughed. "Hahaha, this guy was clearly a pyromaniac, seriously, a talent that allows you to produce flames and gives you bonuses when you see burning things." Refocusing, he added, "But reassuringly, he was a human like me with the same general information, most likely arriving at the same time as me."

Glancing quickly, he said, "However, there's no trace of the other grimoire in the hut. I wonder where the other person hid theirs. In any case, we'll keep this one. You never know, I can give them this grimoire if someone asks for mine."

Leaving the hut and seeing that the sun was already low in the sky, he thought, "There's not much time to explore in all directions. There are still things to do at the camp, and it's better to be ready in advance for tonight."

Outside the hut, he tapped Primo on the shoulder, who was guarding the entrance alongside Titan. "Let's go back, guys. Night is falling, and I don't really want to sleep under the stars again. Besides, if I can hide, it's better for you."

...

After an hour's walk, Adam and the golems were back at their improvised camp.

"Okay, guys, everyone look. I'm going to draw a line on the ground. For now, it will mark the boundaries of the first area of the base. Nothing too big, nothing too small. A gentle first step. Dig along the line 3 meters deep and 1 meter wide, a small trench for the base. Use the earth you dig out to build the start of a wall behind the trench, inside the square."

As he began to draw the line, he added, "Sorry to make you do this, but I haven't created any worker golems yet, so we're a little short-handed at the moment."

Finishing his tracing, he looked at the area they had marked out, a square measuring 20 meters by 20 meters, nothing very big but enough for a small basic house and a vegetable garden, allowing a few humans to survive peacefully. The square encompassed the old tent and the campfire, and the planned entrance faced south, next to the lake. The tree was to the north of the square, with the stream flowing into the lake entering the north of the square, running along the east before exiting the south of the square and dumping into the lake.

Seeing the golem working as best it could, he thought about the next step in his plan. "I don't have enough energy reserves for a golem, much less to give it weapons as well. However, I do have enough to build a cube of earth to hide in tonight so that the undead won't see me."

Adam slowly sculpted a cube of earth measuring 2 meters by 2 meters by 2 meters, guiding the earth slowly to build himself a simple shelter for the night. It wasn't very solid, but it would last a few days.

The sun was setting as Adam and the golems worked on their respective tasks, the base slowly taking shape, the moat slowly being dug, the shelter now almost finished, and the camp teeming with life.

...

1 hour later...

Watching the sun set, Adam finished eating, sitting at the entrance to his earthen cube, watching the golems continue to dig. "A beautiful, busy day, now it's time to deal with the problem."

As the sun disappeared completely, he saw the change happening before his eyes, the grass withering, the trees dying, the air immediately giving off a painful feeling of fear and despair, the realm of the dead taking the place of the plains of infinite life.

The golems stopped for a moment, raising their heads and looking around, before returning to work, but they were now slower, constantly watching their surroundings. Titan even stood up and positioned himself next to the entrance of the earth hut.

Laughing slightly, Adam whispered, "Thanks, Titan, I'm counting on you for the night." Turning around and going back into the hut, he said, "Good luck, guys, I have trust in you. I'm going to bed."

Creating a wall of earth to close off the small entrance, leaving just a small opening to let air through, Adam was ready for a night he hoped would be more peaceful.
