After his mother's funeral, Ryan stands infront Maria's grave. Emily, Zack, Oliver, Bill, and Mai watch from a distance.
"Does he have any other family?" Mai asks.
"No. Just his dad, but he didn't answer Ryan's calls. His mom was all he had." Emily answers.
"And I thought I had a crappie dad. Is he going to be ok?" Oliver says.
"He just needs some time. He's strong, he can get through this." Bill tells them.
Ryan then approaches the group. He smiles somberly at them.
"Thank you all for coming. I really appreciate."
"Of course, man. If you need anything, just let me know." Zack says.
Ryan then turns to Emily.
"How about I take you home."
"Um, actually, I texted my parents and they were cool with me hanging out at your place. If that's ok with you?" Emily says.
"Sure." Ryan says.
Everyone gives Ryan a hug as he and Emily leave.
Later, Bill walks Mai to her apartment.
"Thank you for coming, Mai. Ryan really needed everyone he could get."
"He's a good kid. I hate that he has to go through this alone."
"He's not alone."
"You really do care about him, don't you?"
"The kid gave me something to fight for again. He inspired me to do karate again. I thought I was helping him, but really, he was helping me too."
Mai smiles and hugs Bill.
"Goodnight, Billy."
"Goodnight."
Mai then walks inside as Bill walks away, with a smile on his face.
As that's happening, Ryan and Emily walk inside his house. He puts down his keys and loosens his tie.
"I think I'm just gonna turn in early. You can take the couch." Ryan tells Emily.
"Cool. Hey, Ryan. If you need to talk, I'm always-"
"I'm fine. Thank you."
Ryan walks into his room and sits on his bed. He slowly takes off his tie, blazer, and shoes. Ryan then looks over at a picture of his mom by his bed. He picks it up and stares at it for a moment. Tears start falling down his face and onto the picture. He puts his face into his hands and start to cry. Emily then comes in, putting her hands on his shoulders. With tears in her eyes, she wraps her arms around him from behind. Ryan holds her hand, still crying uncontrollably. The two then lay down in bed, with Emily still holding Ryan.
Ryan cried all night, and Emily stayed with him, comforting him through the night.
