Chapter 14 - The Cain Brothers

Ryan sits on the floor infront of Bill, who is trying to figure out where to start.

"A long time ago, when I was your age. Me, and my little brother joined a dojo called Wolf Fang Karate."

"Wait, Oliver's dad was in Wolf Fang Karate? How did he become the sensei of Cobra Kai?"

Ryan asks.

"I'll get to that, if I can finish my story."

"Sorry, my bad."

"Back then, me and Baron were actual brothers, bestfriends even. We did everything together, including train. We loved karate, it was the only thing we were ever good at."

"So what happened?"

"He...changed. Fell in love with the competition part of it. He didn't care about the rules, or our senseis teachings, or even our relationship. All he cared about was being the best and beating everyone who stepped up to him... It got so bad that our sensei had no choice but to kick him out of the dojo, and he joined a new dojo in town."

"Cobra Kai."

"Yeah. He then challenged me to a fight in the All Valley Tournament. I think because he saw me as his biggest competition. We fought in the finals."

"And you kicked his ass, right?"

Bill doesn't answer the question.

"Right?"

Bill just looks at the young man in silence.

"Woah. You lost."

"I injured my leg in an earlier fight, Baron took advantage...at least that's what it looked like. In reality...I just couldn't fight my little brother."

Ryan looks at his sensei with an understanding but sad look.

"A lot of students left after the tournament. The dojo closed down and my sensei had to move away. Haven't seen him since...I miss him."

"That's why you stopped doing karate for so long. You blame yourself for what happened."

"It was my fault. Because I lost, Cobra Kai ran wild through the valley, bulling and hurting people for years. Everyone was afraid of them. Then some stupid kid came along and wanted to stand up to them."

Bill stands up and puts his hand on Ryan's shoulder.

"You can do something that no one else has. You can inspire other people to stand up for themselves, and stop living in fear. You can change things here, kid."

Ryan has a new look of determination on his face.

"I won't let you down, sensei."

Bill smiles.

"I know you won't."

Ryan then gets an idea.

"Hey that tournament, the All Valley. Does it still happen around here?"

"Yeah, it's happening next month actually. Why."

Ryan just smiles at the question.
