Chapter 9 - Pirates in the Sand

WWWEEEEEEIIIIIII~~~!!!

[All citizens evaluate to you houses immediately. Black Alert!! Black Alert!! Defence Protocol-008 Will be activated in Five minutes. All citizens-]

A warning rang through the whole Am city. People entering whatever house they can. Scrambling to near by house. Am city Defence forces flying through the sky. Moving towards the Sea.

The sky was dark with the moon shining brightly in the sky.

Illuminating the now empty streets of the Am city plaza. Silence fell through the city. Except for the warning notice. There was no sign of life.

Five minutes passed and the Defence Protocol activated. All the houses suddenly started to close with extra layer of protection. A thick metal slab sprouting from the bottom of the windows and the gates. Closing shut with a clank.

The warning stopped and everything went silent. The city felt like an abandoned city without the people to make it lively.

The food trucks, taxis, stalls, streets lights, all were left as is...

=====

"You said pirates are attacking the city...?"

Alex asked Deborah beside him confused. He saw no pirates in sight. Alex, Deborah, Mayor Preganos and all the soldiers of the city are present outside of the city.

Looking at the Sea Desert. Before, Alex couldn't understand what was shore and what was sea. But now he did. The shore was this yellow-ish ground that doesn't move and the sea is the red-ish brown sand that moves.

Honestly, they look like nothing more then stir fried sand to Alex. He looked around and saw that everyone was busy. Even the hateful guy Deborah was managing his unit into position. And that guy didn't even answer his question!

So hateful!

But Alex being a good person let it slide. He will take his revenge later...

Alex just stood there like an idiot. Hands clasped behind. Watching everyone get into position while he was looking at the Sea. Trying to find what kind of ship sails in sand. But there was no one insight so far.

And Alex noticed that new a mountain range have arrived and the one he had seen was out of the frame a long ago...

"What did you say?"

Deborah landed beside Alex. Alex sized up Deborah and couldn't help but feel that his pretty face looked even more punch able wearing an armour.

'Tsk. Enviable bastard.'

Alex felt bitter but he again asked what he had in mind and Deborah looked at him in suspiciously narrowed gaze. Like he was judging Alex for some sexual crime.

"What?"

"What did you do with all the time you spent on phone?"

Deborah asked in a low and suspicious tone. Like he knew what Alex did with his right hand. Alex narrowed his eyes. He didn't like Deborah's tone at all.

"I was learing languages you Peanut butter."

'...'

Alex replied to Deborah and he didn't reply because it seemed fair. 110 language in two months isn't something normal people can do. This buttery smooth brain probably haven't slept a single wink for the last two months since he arrived in the city.

"Anyway. Before you ask some stupid questions that will raise my PTSD level, the pirates are Sand folks. They live and travel via sand. They have their own settlement in the vast Sea Desert. And no, they don't attack just for riches or anything like that. Purely for chaos and destruction. The pirates are worshiper of the Desert God of Chaos and Plunder after all. Chaos and Plunder is their main reason. Everything is a byproduct. It is to appease their God."

Deborah said in rapid fire. Making Alex nod. He wanted to ask more about Gods but didn't ask because now was not the time.

Everyone was in position.

"Alexander. How have you been?"

The Mayor suddenly landed beside him. Trying to land some small talks.

"Cut to the chase old man. You want me to help you in defeating that thing don't you?"

Alex said as he pointed at the giant hand coming out of the ground. The land trembled with each movement. The giant slowly sprouted out of the sea as if climbing out of hole.

Preganos looked at the giant and along with it, countless other smaller sand creatures have gathered in that place. The mountain that was nearly eight hundred kilometers tall got covered by the sheer amount of creatures. The giant fully stood up. It was towering above the clouds. Nearly ten thousand kilometers tall.

Preganos frowned. As of now, the city will sustain heavy lose in both man power and recourses. But it will be their win nonetheless.

But he couldn't 'see' the outcome when Alex was involved.

'Same as before. Nothing...'

Preganos turned ot Alex.

"I would be grateful."

He said slowly. Alex frowned.

"Old man, I don't want to come of as opportunistic because I would have helped regardless. But since you asked, you don't plan to get my help for free do you?"

Alex asked. Making few nearby head turn. Since Preganos didn't say anything and was smiling instead, they didn't act on the disrespect.

"Hohoho~ of course not! I will give you an appropriate reward... tell me if you have any preference."

Alex gearing that couldn't help but smirk.

'This old timer knows his shit.'

"Well, can I get those?"

Alex said as he pointed at a soldier wearing a battle suit.

"Unfortunately, Alexander, I can't give you that as it is city property. I can't hand it over to someone who is not obligated to it by any means. Forgive me. And I don't think you can use it in the first place. You need an Awakened Bloodline to use those suits. I belive you don't have it?"

Alex nodded slowly. Unsure himself. He noted the topic that picked his interest. He will ask later what a battle suit has to do with Bloodlines. But given the situation, he didn't.

Instead he asked for the next thing he wanted and has been working on for two months with no end in sight because of the travel expenses.

"Can you book a flight for me to Japan?"

"Japan? ... I can do that. Sure."

Preganos seemed like he wanted to asked more questions but the aggressor was getting closer.

Fast.

The monster hoard could now be seen. Their cries making the air tremble. Each step of the giant crushed the smaller creatures.

Vooooooooo~~~

Each breath of the giant rang out like silent cry of the abyss.

"... where did they get their hands on an Abyssal Giant...?"

Deborah murmured.

"...Archbishop Kha..."

Preganos said quietly. Deborah's eyes widened then nodded in realisation.

"Tsk."

Alex felt irritated as he hated it when people talked in riddle.

"I'm going."

Alex said. And before anyone could say anything, he ran off. He ran slowly then started increasing speed.

Alex ran. The wind blew on his ears. He saw the giant monster with black human shaped body and red outline. Face was black as well with eyes glowing like two red headlights. Mouth open, Seemingly breathing in and out. Mists coming out every time it breathed out.

Alex frowned in contemplation. Then smirked thinking it won't matter if he couldn't defeat it. He would die regardless. So might as well try.

With that thought, Alex planted his right leg strongly in the sand, making the sand jump up. He crouched forward, taking in deep breath. Eyes blazing in determination.

BooooOoOmmmMMM~~~!!

Alex shot forward like a shooting star. The air split. Sound barrier broke. The friction burned his clothes. Alex increased his speed even more.

BOOOOMMMM~~!!

Under the moonlight, a ball of white light marched towards the monsters hoard leaving the ground melted...
