Having the books falling on my head like that is less than pleasant, especially considering it is hard to call them just books, their thickness permits me to call them encyclopedias or even tomes of knowledge.
Disgruntled I wonder why it is that she decided to gift anything, especially considering that she is supposed to be the most unfeeling and the most responsible of the the four.
Then there is the 'gifts', them being 3 giant a- tomes.
I don't even know what to think of this, I mean I am grateful I didn't outright die but to also get something? Talk about unexpected. Anyway, I should check what the tomes are about at least.
'Hey Mom, can I see the tomes you're holding?' I ask
Startled from her own thoughts she hands the heavy tomes over only to ask 'What did the letter say?'
'Ah well it thanked me for not fearing and spoke of a wish to not meet me under circumstance that isn't under her control...' I reply, trying my best to summarize it, then add on 'it was for some reason written in old Shakespearean English.
At that my mom's eyes widen, surprised at the quite unusual style of the written words.
'Really? Can I see' she asks
'Nope' I say playfully while physically giving her the letter. Unfortunately the letter disintegrates with the envelope as soon as it leaves my hand.
'Well apparently it isn't even my choice whether you could read it or not' I say, a bit flabbergasted at the unusual circumstance.
This only earns me a smile. I then hear 'Hey, how long are you gonna stay up there?'.
Looking down I see how the passengers have already started to get their luggage from the plane's belly with the crew's guidance.
The one calling out to me was surprisingly Kaeya, I then turn, thinking a little, only to decide to reply 'Just about now seems like a good time'
Kaeya with a bit of a weary smile then chuckles only to ask two of the knights to help us down. The plane wing was still quite high up and the previously inflated slide was now deflated and not really safe to use.
With the helping hand of the knights, the slide which was still deflated now had some tension to hopefully hold the weight of us going down.
My mom went first and safely got down... wait now that I think about why does it appear as if she became younger and slimmer? Are my eyes tripping?
Wait now that I think about it ever since we landed in Teyvat I have been feeling lighter and stronger.
After doing a quick analysis and making a pretty stupid decision and simply jump off the plane wing which was still about 3 meters of the sandy ground.
To my and everyone else's who saw I landed on the sand with my feet and didn't even stumble. and it isn't that my weight disappeared just that my body was seemingly stronger, strong enough to handle a 3 meter fall with 0 injury.
Shaking my head in bewilderment I leave my mom and the knights wide eyed, as I head over to the baggage area to hopefully retrieve our suitcases I shake my legs off, since they had a mild stiffness from my landing.
At this time most of the people had already retrieved their luggage and so it wasn't at all difficult to find my and my moms luggage.
Lifting them out of the baggage hold with relative ease I find they feel lighter than when I initially given them to the staff at the airport.
Meeting up with my mom again we check that we have everything and now just wait to make sure every one has everything.
Myself noticing a few elderly people struggling come up to lend a hand, they offer me their thanks and are now able to take care of their things themselves.
I sit back down with my mom, discussing what might happen next and what we might do to earn a living within Mondstadt.
With our current knowledge and abilities it doesn't seem a bad idea to open a cafe or a restaurant considering we know how to cook quite a few dishes and know a decent amount about the world itself so there is the chance for getting some stability within Teyvat.
Relatively fifteen to twenty minutes pass by as everyone gathers their belongings. Surrounded by the knights in case of attack the group heads to Mondstadt with hopes for a home in this world.
Walking past the statue of the seven, the knights decide to explain how gods are real in this world, with 7 main gods known as 'Archons' these archons ruled over their respective regions and that the group is currently within the territory governed by the anemo 'wind' archon, Barbatos.
Walking up to the statue I find it curious to check if I can resonate with the element like how the Traveler, Aether/Lumine did it within the game.
Pressing my hand to the statue all I feel is wind caress me gently, but unfortunately nothing like the in-game description of the the ability gained, disappointed I mutter under my breath 'I hope Ronova scares you to death with her gaze damn drunk bard'
Letting go of the moment I run back to the group which already walked a distance away.
Unknown to Sane his words weren't unheard and now there was a very pale bard in a tavern who had just recently sobered up.
The bard wondered who would wish such a thing upon him and more importantly WHY THE FUCK DID IT WORK!!!
Sane unknowing of the panic he caused the revered and honored anemo archon kept walking along the outskirts of the group escorted by the guards.
Two hours into the trek they finally make it to the bridge that connects Mondstadt to the roads and wilderness.
The entire group of passengers find themselves in awe, the bridge which in game at most spanned 100m was actually a giant bridge that was almost a kilometer long and about 50 meters across. The city itself was also great as you could barely see the edge of the stone wall surrounding the city.
The two most surprised by the sheer scale was myself and my mom.
'Well, a game really is just a poor imitation compared to reality huh.' I say
My Mom, still quite amazed only nods in agreement.
It takes a while for our, honestly strange group, to get to the gate. Thankfully we make it before anything occurs especially considering how it seems particularly stormy at the moment.
Walking up to the gates the guards are understandably baffled at the situation. Although with Kaeya leading the group we are allowed inside the city. We are more or less told to follow the now identified Favounius Knights to their headquarters to, well, most likely plead for asylum.
Walking through the massive city we find that our group catches quite a bit of attention but not nearly enough to have everyone turn their heads.
Arriving to the headquarters Kaeya calls out the cabin crew to come with him and also whispers something to a guard. That guard starts searching through the crowd while the crew gathers at the door.
After a moment the guard walks up to me to my surprise as I am unceremoniously dragged out in front of Kaeya.
I can now only stare in disbelief at the situation but am simply told to go inside along with Kaeya and the plane crew.
Coming inside I find that unlike the game's simplistic portrayal the actual headquarters are far larger with there being a pretty long corridor before we are able to get to the main area.
Now I was able to see just how big the building was outside, honestly it itself could be classified a fortress although a smaller one.
As we are lead into the main room we are told to sit down and wait as Kaeya goes to talk with someone who I can only assume is Jean or Varka.
30 minutes go by and I find myself so bored that I start listening to an audio-book I had downloaded on my phone, with my battery being practically full and the many many full power-banks that we happened to be carrying I thought there wouldn't be an issue.
I mean hell I still had that 1 month free trial on Youtube premium that I was planning to cancel at the last moment, so why not use it?
As soon as I turn it on I feel the irony of the fact that it was a genshin audio-book, but ignoring that I just sit back and listen to the audio-book on my earbuds.
Half an hour passes and then the crew and myself are called in all at once. Walking into the office I find myself surprised to see Varka sitting in the chair while Jean was standing beside him, obviously his assistant.
Although briefly recognition did flash in my eyes, and while the others didn't notice Varka did. This made him quite curious. Anyway a discussion started mainly about the people and where they can stay at the moment.
The talks were mainly a back and forth about food, housing, jobs etc.
The initial 50 minute discussion then gets halted as I get addressed 'You are the young man who stepped up to mediate upon the initial meeting yes?' asks Varka staring straight at me.
'Yes' I respond quickly a little unnerved at being put in the spotlight surrounded by far more competent people.
'Alright, then, what do you think of the housing situation? We have mainly two options: 1 is to settle you into the newly constructed housing area that doesn't yet have a market or much other infrastructure, 2 is to settle you in a soon to be destroyed area that is closer to the market and have infrastructure but is outdated.' asks Varka pointing out the two locations on the map.
The first location is close to the wall and has the downside of likely being mostly covered in shade from the wall.
The second location is close to the center but will soon be demolished and has potential danger of safety.
'I will take the first option every time' I answer without much thought.
The crew is surprised as to them the central area as a temporary place seemed much better based on their previous discussion.
Varka raises and furrows his eyebrows asking 'Why?'
'You said that the center of the city is old and was planned to be torn down soon. That implies that the residents that were there had mostly left likely due to structural stability. Also our group has little to no knowledge of where we ended up. Without first having enough common knowledge it would be difficult to integrate into the city, so it makes more sense to start from the outside, learn more about the city and it's people and then choose to move to a better location. Also while the area we are assigned isn't within the central district, it is an area that has a road leading straight through to your headquarters so if we need help we will be able to find it easier and we won't get so lost as it will be an easy path from here to the first location. Lastly the side road that passes through has a lot of merchants moving through as the road leads to a wealthier residency area so there is a chance to gain from this.' I explain while returning Varka's gaze
'No wonder Kaeya had found you interesting, you really are something. You managed to identify several points that we all overlooked.' stated Varka now leaning back in his chair and smirking.
The conversation then continued for another half an hour after which.
'Alright, Kaeya would you lead our otherworldly group to the new area? young man, Sane right? You stay.' says Varka, though the last bit catches me off guard.
I watch as the plane crew and Kaeya leave the room, closing the door behind them, I turn around to look at Varka only to notice a sword at my neck held by Jean who at some point of my distraction got close to me.
'W-wow there, what is up with the sudden hostility? Last I checked I shouldn't have done anything to offend you.' I ask in an obviously shaky voice having never had my life on the line before.
Varka then stands up walking to right in-front of me, then asking "I saw you recognized me and Jean. How."
Gulping, my eyes start wandering and I start saying 'I saw a painting of you outside within the room we were told to wait in-'
