Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: An Encounter

The two ladies accompanied Rowena for a while until it was time to leave. After all, there wasn't much for Amabel to do in the hospital.

After making sure that her mother was well, and being taken care of, it was time to go.

The two of them cheerfully left, chatting and showing no signs of worry or stress.

Amabel was much better. With her mother being taken care of, she didn't have to worry about much at all. So, she was much more at ease.

"Let's have a late lunch at the restaurant and then try to see which shops we can visit today. Do you have more clothes to wear? We can go shopping as well!" Beatrix was pretty much enthusiastic about shopping.

Amabel smiled as she listened to Beatrix and responded, "I have bought some clothes but it won't hurt to buy more. Let's go for the clothing shopping another time. Let us focus on the first thing. We have many days ahead of us."

"Indeed, haha, how could I forget? I get too excited at times. Don't blame me!" Beatrix chucklingly face palmed and Amabel chuckled along.

The two of them continued with their chat as they made way to the elevator and as they neared the elevator, another private room door opened which attracted both their attention. After all, it was on the way.

Exiting the private room was a mature woman, older than them though she didn't look that old. She had this kind smile on her face which made Amabel feel a certain positive attraction towards her after seeing her briefly.

However, they didn't stop in their tracks. After stealing a glimpse, they continued their way and the woman followed since she was going in the same direction.

The elevator was on standby, so the four of them entered the elevator and fatefully were heading towards the same floor as well.

Since they didn't know the woman well, Amabel and Beatrix simply exchanged a greeting with the woman before continuing with their chat.

However, amidst the chat, Beatrix's phone started ringing and she took it out. Upon seeing the caller ID, she furrowed her brows but still answered the phone, "What is it?" and it could be seen that she didn't seem to have a good impression on whoever she was talking to.

After saying that, the other person responded and Beatrix was silent for a while before she answered, "why didn't you tell me about this a while ago? You expect me to just ...." She huffed with anger as she tried to suppress her anger towards the caller but still ended up relenting, "Fine, since its already done. I will attend but I have a friend. Can I bring her over?"

After listening to the other party for a few seconds, Beatrix hung up and she still didn't look pleased.

Amabel seeing her friend in a bad mood, nudged at her and asked worriedly, "What's happening?"

Beatrix let out a deep sigh as she regulated her emotions. After calming down slightly she looked at Amabel as the elevator almost reached the ground floor and responded, "It's my niece, my husband's sister's daughter. She is just inviting me to this tea party which is being held in like two hours. Can you believe it? Why didn't she tell me when there was time? Is she trying to ambush me?"

The more she thought about it, the angrier she became.

They didn't invite her in time and yet dare to invite her last minute. Although she knew that these people still looked down on her despite being married for several years, wasn't this too much?

Amabel didn't know how to respond to that honestly. She had never attended a tea party before. The best she had attended was probably a birthday banquet. There was still that reunion party she was invited to she had yet to attend.

She had never bothered herself with such things before, that's why she was a bit clueless.

However, she still had to show concern for her friend, so as the elevator doors opened, she asked, "is it a must to attend? They never invited you in time, after all."

Beatrix chuckled as she listened to that and took a deep breath as she exited the elevator followed by the others.

"I wish I could. But since I have been invited despite being too late, I have no choice, lest that sister-in-law of mine find faults with me!"

The worries of being married were simply too infuriated.

Amabel sighed alongside Beatrix after hearing that.

"Is this a way to bully you?"

"Umph! Bully me! as if I will allow them."

Amabel was relieved when she heard that but then quickly got worried as she recalled something, "You …. On the phone, the friend you were talking about, couldn't be me, right?" she asked shakily as she pointed at herself.

If that was indeed the truth, then wasn't she doomed.

She knew nothing about such parties. Not only that but she shouldn't have anything appropriate to wear to such a party. What was she going to do?

Beatrix nonetheless grinned at her, flashing her white teeth and beamingly responded, "Yes, my dear friend. How can you just let me go by myself? Besides, don't you think that it will be interesting to go together? We can shop that later. We only have a few hours. We can go to my place. I should have several unworn outfits for the occasion."

Amabel listening to that could tell that Beatrix wasn't giving her any room to decline and her curiosity towards such parties was tempting her to agree. However, she understood some propriety, so she hesitantly said, "Beatrix, there should be no need for me to wear your clothes, right? Why don't I just buy my own? I have the card with me!"

She didn't want to wear someone's else clothes at all. However, Beatrix had other plans and firmly refused, "It will take time. Besides, the shop I know, we need to make an appointment and we don't have time for that," stating her reasons.

When Amabel heard that, she was at a loss and she looked sulky, not knowing how to proceed.

They were indeed friends but wearing Beatrix's clothes after meeting twice, wasn't that too much?

She didn't want to be labeled like a leech and what if Beatrix's in-laws recognized the clothes somehow and she ends up being pointed at?

She was quite sensitive after succumbing to the lowest level previously. She couldn't help but feel worried.

However, as she was lost in such thoughts, an unfamiliar voice interrupted her thoughts, startling not just her but Beatrix as well.

"If you are worried about clothes, how about we stop by my place? I happen to have the perfect outfits for what you are looking for!"
