Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Tea Party

"Wow, this place is amazing!" Amabel praised as she looked at the breathtaking scene in front of her.

Beatrix chuckled as she followed Daphne's car, thinking inwardly of how the organizers have found a special place for the event.

It was truly a beautiful place, indeed.

She found the parking lot, parked the car and a few moments later after checking that they were looking fine, the two friends alighted from the car, joining Daphne who was waiting for them.

"Ladies, are you coming with me or you have friends?" Daphne, not wanting to impose too much, especially after eavesdropping on the call from the hospital asked as soon as the two reached her.

Beatrix amiably smiled at Daphne and responded, "Lady Grimshaw, I do have some relatives I want to see. How about we meet each other later, if you are still here?"

Daphne didn't feel bothered with that. She wanted to meet her friend, and afraid that Philippa, because of her stress might say snide remarks regarding the two interesting friends she had just made, felt it was necessary, not to let them meet.

With that in mind, she agreed to part and meet later. After all, they already exchanged numbers earlier.

"See you later, then!" Daphne waved goodbye to the two younger friends before walking away.

Amabel didn't understand why they were separating, but either way, she was still fine with anything and didn't bother to question Beatrix about it.

Beatrix hooked Amabel's arm and gently pulled her forward saying, "Later when we meet my niece, don't bother with her. She has a foul mouth."

Amabel chuckled as she listened to that and responded, "As long as she doesn't cross me, I won't bother with her."

If it was before, she would tolerate anything but now, she no longer wanted to become a pushover and be treated like a fool.

Beatrix chuckled heartily at hearing that and didn't dare comment any further but swiftly changed the topic and started introducing her to the ladies who were still far away from them.

While the two were gradually getting to know others without meeting face-to-face, on the other side, Daphne finally managed to find her best friend.

From a distance, she spotted Philippa, looking as elegant and proper as always. If only her mouth was like her outer appearance, everything would be fine, but alas .... Thinking about her friend's current problems, Daphne's head ached badly.

Meanwhile, Philippa who was chatting with the other ladies happen to spot Daphne approaching and smiled apologetically at the ladies as she said, "Ladies, I am afraid that I need to excuse myself for a moment. My friend is here!"

The three ladies who were with her, all looked in the direction Philippa was staring in earlier. Upon seeing Daphne, they all understood and responded gently to her, "No worries. You can go with her. It was a pleasure to chat with you, Mrs. Langdale."

"If possible, let us continue our chat when you are free."

Philippa smiled generously at them and promised them exactly that.

After doing so, she gracefully left, her steps proper and looking quite elegant from the back. She made the three ladies to grit their teeth with envy.

"Umph! Always talking and acting as if she is on some high pedestal. Who does she think she is?" a lady in green spat angrily, casting a brief glare at the departing Philippa.

Her other friend, wearing black and white chuckled as she patted the lady in green saying, "don't bother with her. Don't you know what she is like?"

The lady in cream-white scoffed as she added, "hehe, always parading her title everywhere she goes. When was the last time she actually attended the same event with her husband? Others might even think that they divorced and just not announcing the news."

"Hehe, talking about that. I think I heard someone saying that, Master Langdale barely spends time at home."

"Doesn't that mean that he has mistresses outside?"

"He doesn't seem like the kind of person to do that."

"Men! Can they be understood? Besides, it should be her fault. Who didn't envy her when they got married that year?"

"Tche, blame her useless womb. Until now, there are no children. Which man can tolerate that? He can't just build such an empire to donate to others in the end, right?"

With Philippa gone, the three ladies gossiped in hushed voices and the topic of the gossip, found herself hugging her friend, feeling much better.

"Damn! Its tiring faking a smile and conversing with these ladies!" she complained as she pulled away from the hug.

Daphne chuckled heartily as she scanned her friend from head to toe before saying, "then stop attending these functions. Even if you don't come, no one will say anything!"

Philippa snorted as she haughtily raised her pointed chin, "Umph, if I don't attend, won't I shoot myself in the foot when I organize an event next time? I still understand decorum."

Daphne laughed heartily when she heard that and patted her fiend's hand. "Then stop complaining. Put a smile on your face and enjoy yourself. These parties are held for us to enjoy to the fullest. Leave all the stress and grumbling back at home. You wouldn't want these gossiping ladies to know about your troubles, right?"

When Philippa heard that her eyes became sharp as she clenched her fists and gnashed her teeth, saying, "You really know how to poke where it hurts, huh!"

Daphne shrugged as she nonchalantly responded, "don't overthink too much and let them find something on you. How about we take a walk and mingle? It's a good day to know others!" swiftly changing the topic.

Philippa hearing that, could only roll her eyes at her friend, knowing that it was useless and pointless to be angry now. She couldn't afford such mistakes.

Daphne smiled triumphantly inwardly and hooked her arm with Philippa.

"While we are it, how about I tell you about my progress regarding your husband's matters?"
