Chapter 13 - Chapter 13: Valentine

"Master Langdale, are you going home or to the penthouse?" Jessica, Valentine's assistant asked as she followed the man out of the elevator.

They have just knocked off and it was time to head home.

Valentine didn't look at Jessica but his expression looked somber.

"Let's head home for dinner. She prepared dinner," he flatly said without much emotions.

Jessica didn't react much but acquiesced to that instruction.

The two headed for the Maybach that was waiting for them.

Valentine boarded the car and Jessica followed suit before the car smoothly left the underground parking.

On the way, Valentine busied himself by listening to Jessica's reports. It didn't look like he had knocked off at all.

 ----****----

Meanwhile, in a certain large villa, a graceful woman wearing a beautiful white A-Line skirt with a black blouse could be seen setting the table while instructing the maids.

"Bring that over here and put it over there!"

The dining room was filled with maids shuffling and dish after dish being set there.

The butler who was dutifully watching on the other side, wore a smile on his face as he watched all that happening. However, when he thought about his master, his smile evaporated as he looked at the woman who was also his mistress with pity.

Couldn't these two reconcile and live like many other couples?

"He should like all these, right? I made his favorite," Philippa cheerfully said as she looked at the food, she had poured all her heart into making so that she may curry favor or rather make her husband happy.

It's been weeks since the two of them sat together properly and enjoyed a meal.

"Mistress, master will surely love this. He has always liked your cooking," the butler ushered Philippa with praise and she beamed.

"I hope so!" the smile on her face never faltered.

With the table prepared, now what remained was the arrival of the man himself who didn't take long to arrive.

"Mistress, the Master is here!" the butler joyfully informed Philippa, who was in the kitchen.

Upon hearing that, Philippa hurriedly wiped her hands before rushing out of the kitchen, a smile on her face as she couldn't wait to see her husband.

All the servants looked at her with smiles on their faces but as for their meanings, only they knew.

Philippa nervously stood outside as she watched the Maybach approaching. Sitting inside that car was a man she had been married to for seven good years but have been together for a decade.

So much has happened in that time but they were still together and she was his wife. That's all that truly matters.

Moments later, the car came to a halt, the driver opened the door and her husband alighted.

"Valentine!" she cheerfully called as she walked towards him and Valentine politely nodded at her, not what you expect from husband and wife.

Philippa felt chilled when she saw his reaction but she pretended like she wasn't seeing it. It wasn't the first time that he has done that, anyway.

With a thick skin, she walked up to him and hooked his arm with hers. Those who would see them from a distance would think that they were truly affectionate.

Valentine didn't shake her away but let her be which made Philippa very happy.

The couple entered the villa and Philippa took him to the dining table first.

The food was still warm and if he goes upstairs to change and whatnot, all her hard work would be gone.

Valentine didn't say anything but sat at the highest seat while Philippa sat next to him.

"Valentine, I have prepared your favorites. Please enjoy the meal," Philippa coyly said, her face lighting up as if looking for praise but Valentine didn't bother to look at her at all but looked at the dishes that were at the table.

Once upon a time, these dishes used to mean so much to him because she would always make them for him.

Back then, her affection was very genuine and their love was much stronger compared to now. If only she hadn't ....

Philippa clenched her fists beneath the table upon seeing Valentine not responding. Was he not trying to give her face?

Why wasn't he saying anything?

However, the next second, she saw him reaching out to the egg drop soup first which made her heave a sigh of relief.

Valentine didn't want to lie but when Philippa enters the kitchen, she was truly a great cook. If only she ...

Anyway, he was hungry, so he started focusing on his food without entertaining Philippa who seemed to have so much to talk about.

It has always been like that for five years now. Whenever she needs something, she would prepare a feast and try to lure him with food.

He was quite curious what she wanted this time.

"Valentine, have you been busy at work lately? You are spending so many days away from home. Were you on a trip?" but when he heard where she was going, Valentine dropped the spoon which made a clanging sound startling Philippa who obviously wasn't expecting such a reaction.

At the same time, seeing his reaction, it made her heart sink as the familiar despair washed over her.

It can't be! Not again!

She sincerely hoped that it wasn't the case but Valentine's words shattered that small hope.

"Philippa, are you courting death?" he angrily growled at her, and she shrank her neck in panic but when she thought about what she wanted, she mustered her courage once again.

"Valentine! Don't forget that we are married!" she said in reminder, her voice trembling in anger and fear of what her husband was doing but Valentine sneered as he leaned against the chair.

"Married! How can I ever forget that we are married?"

"You ….."

"Philippa Farnley! You lost the right to tell me that, the very moment you did that five years ago. Don't you dare act like a responsible wife in my eyes. If this irks you then sign the divorce papers!" he slammed the table as he rose to his feet making her panic.

Valentine barely calls her by her full name. Seeing him doing so, it meant that he was truly angry and at the same time, she had caught him again.

But that wasn't the problem here. hearing about divorce again, she panickily stood to her feet and rushed towards him who was already heading towards the elevator.

"Valentine, stop there! Which bitch are you seeing again?"
