Chapter 30: I'm Just a Normal Human Without Powers
Carnage Kabuto's charging figure stopped abruptly. His pupils constricted in disbelief.
Dr. Genus, who was clamped under Kabuto's arm, struggled to lift his head. Due to Kabuto's reckless rampage, he had accidentally banged his head earlier. His face was covered in blood, and his consciousness was hazy.
Noticing the movement had stopped, he felt a wave of confusion and forced himself to ask:
"Kabuto, why did you stop?"
However, in that moment, Carnage Kabuto had absolutely no desire to answer Genus. His eyes stared fixedly down the dark tunnel ahead.
Something's wrong... Why is my instinct screaming danger like this? Is something approaching?!
Carnage Kabuto trusted his insect instincts completely. Without a shred of hesitation, he turned around, intending to run back to the spacious combat training room.
But in the next second, the dark tunnel was illuminated by a golden light. A wave of destructive energy crashed into his senses.
Seeing the massive ball of energy flying toward him at breakneck speed, Carnage Kabuto was scared out of his wits.
What the hell is that?!
He didn't dare to be careless. He quickly curled himself into a ball. His hard insect carapace locked together tightly, forming a perfect spherical shield.
As for Dr. Genus? In the midst of such a drastic movement, Kabuto paid him no mind whatsoever.
Thus, the moment Kabuto squatted down to ball up, he accidentally used too much force and crushed Dr. Genus, who was still under his arm, into a 2D smear.
Blood and internal organs splattered onto the floor. The pungent smell of blood filled the air, but instead of triggering Kabuto's ferocity, it only heightened his fear.
In the next second, the violent golden energy sphere swallowed him whole. Endless destructive power danced across his armor, and the carapace that seemed indestructible began to shatter piece by piece.
The energy sphere didn't stop because of Kabuto's resistance. After a brief pause, it continued flying forward, slightly smaller in volume.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
A second later, the energy sphere landed in the spacious combat training room, setting off a massive explosion. The specially reinforced alloy walls were twisted and shattered.
The armored ball slowly unfurled, revealing Carnage Kabuto inside.
His outer shell was charred black, and he was coughing up green blood, indicating the immense damage he had taken from that single attack.
Carnage Kabuto's face was filled with terror. He had no idea what had happened; the world suddenly felt absurd.
His gaze swept over Dr. Genus, who had been flattened into a sheet of paper. Anger flashed in his eyes, and he stomped viciously on the remains, grinding them into a paste.
It's all this idiot's fault! Telling me I'm the God of the New World, a New Human far superior to Old Humanity...
And look at this! I haven't even seen the enemy yet, and I was almost crushed into dust by their attack!
"No, I have to run. I can't stay in the House of Evolution. The intruder is absolutely not someone I can deal with."
Carnage Kabuto possessed extremely keen insect senses, allowing him to detect danger in advance.
And right now, he could faintly feel two auras approaching rapidly—auras that made his heart palpitate with fear.
Most importantly, that energy sphere, which had nearly killed him, hadn't drained the intruder's energy in the slightest.
This meant that the energy sphere wasn't some ultimate move. It was, at most, a casual attack.
Before activating his so-called "Carnage Mode," Kabuto's rationality always held the upper hand. To him, nothing was more important than survival.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the tunnel.
Looking at the twisted and deformed metal walls around them, King sighed.
"Even though I used less than one-tenth of my energy, the materials in this House of Evolution are pretty sturdy. It only warped a bit."
Saitama looked envious. He thought about his usual fights.
Punch. Punch. And another punch.
To be honest, Saitama wanted a move like the energy blast King just used. The special effects looked super cool and super flashy!
Too bad I'm just a human without powers...
The Caped Baldy sighed silently in his heart. In the end, I'm just an ordinary person who only knows how to punch and kick.
I can't fly, I can't shoot energy beams. I can't do anything except punch.
King is stronger. Not only can he fly, but he's also popular, and he can shoot super-cool light balls.
Noticing Saitama's envious gaze, the corner of King's mouth twitched. He could roughly guess what this guy was thinking.
Are you kidding? Who could compare to you?
By now, King had received quite a few rewards from the system. Compared to when he first arrived, his overall strength had multiplied several times over.
But even with such immense power, King knew clearly in his heart that he had absolutely no chance of beating Saitama.
As he grew stronger, he could sense Saitama's hidden power more clearly—it was like an abyss, vast as the ocean, endless as the starry sky.
Based on King's current estimation, if he went all out, he could at best tank one of Saitama's Normal Punches. Any more force, and he'd be beaten into a messy pulp.
And that assumption was based on Saitama not growing stronger.
In the One Punch Man manga (Murata version), Saitama was constantly growing, especially during combat where his growth was exponential.
In a fight, Saitama could kill the version of himself from a second ago with one punch. That kind of growth rate was terrifying.
Just then, sensing a presence, both King and Saitama switched to their serious faces. Their figures blurred and vanished from the spot.
They both sensed a powerful aura trying to flee the House of Evolution. It was likely the "monster" Armored Gorilla had mentioned.
While passing a particularly damaged section of the metal tunnel, King stopped. His gaze fell to the floor.
There, stuck to the ground, was a pile of meat paste draped in a tattered white lab coat, next to a pair of smashed glasses.
Nice. Dr. Genus got turned into a 2D waifu on the highway.
King amused himself with that conclusion.
Undoubtedly, this guy had done something different from the original plot, leading to Carnage Kabuto crushing him to death.
