Chapter 29: Should We Try It?
Just as the two were about to enter the tunnel, King's phone rang abruptly.
He looked down and saw that it was the Hero Association again.
Damn, why does the Hero Association call every time I'm about to do something? Is this some kind of karmic law?
The moment he picked up, Sitch's anxious voice came through.
"Mr. King, I'm terribly sorry. I know you just finished dealing with a Dragon-level disaster, but are you free right now? Could you come to the Hero Association Headquarters?"
King's eyes narrowed. He rarely heard Sitch sound this panicked. Besides, according to the original plot, there should have been a period of peace after defeating the Titan.
Did another major disaster appear? Is this the butterfly effect caused by my arrival?
To be safe, King asked, "What happened?"
Sounds of smashing and crashing came from the other end of the line. Sitch sounded distressed and slightly guilty.
"Tatsumaki is throwing a tantrum again. She heard you solved another Dragon-level threat and wants a rematch. She says if you don't agree, she'll keep wrecking the headquarters!"
King: "..."
This legal loli really is a problem child. It never ends.
When he fought Tatsumaki last time, it was practically a stomp. From the very beginning, she couldn't contend with him at all.
Logically speaking, any normal person would have sensed the massive gap in strength and given up.
But clearly, an arrogant person like Tatsumaki was not normal. After being one-shot, she actually came back wanting to fight again.
King had no intention of accepting the invitation. He didn't have time to play games with this childish woman.
"Sorry, I'm busy right now. I'm preparing to wipe out the House of Evolution with Saitama."
"If you're busy, then never mind. We'll try our best to calm Tatsumaki down. Mr. King, you should just rest well..."
"Wait, what?! You and S-Class Rank 17, Caped Baldy, are wiping out the House of Evolution right now?!"
Sitch's eyes widened. He was familiar with the name "House of Evolution."
It was a rogue organization created by a mad scientist. The Hero Association had always found them a bit headache-inducing, but because there were too many other pressing matters, they hadn't dealt with them immediately.
After all, compared to monsters actively slaughtering civilians, the House of Evolution hadn't made any major moves since its inception, though it was under strict surveillance.
Sitch didn't know the full extent of their military power, but for the Strongest Man on Earth to take the initiative to exterminate them... they were definitely not to be underestimated.
After hanging up, Sitch felt a wave of emotion.
The Hero Association currently had 17 S-Class heroes, but their personalities were all eccentric and uncontrollable.
If only every S-Class hero was like Mr. King, dedicated to eradicating monsters and evil organizations... how wonderful that would be.
The sound of something smashing to the floor pulled Sitch back to reality.
"Hey, Sitch! Where is that damn Scarface?! I just made a mistake last time! Tell him to get over here and fight me again!"
Sitch scratched his head of white hair. Looking at the petite woman floating above the control room, he felt a massive sense of disparity.
The gap in maturity is a bit too big.
"Um... Miss Tatsumaki, Mr. King is currently occupied with important business and can't come for a while. You should go back and rest first. After all, your injuries haven't healed yet."
"HAH?!"
A dissatisfied shout rang out. Tatsumaki looked even more displeased.
Her exquisite face was filled with anger, and a faint green psychic aura swirled around her.
"That Scarface refused my duel for some trivial matter?! Is he kidding me?! I don't accept this!"
Despite her words, Tatsumaki wasn't stupid. After the last battle, she had felt exactly how large the gap between her and King was.
Tatsumaki, who prided herself on being the strongest Esper and believed she was second only to Blast in the Association, had suffered such a crushing defeat for the first time in her life.
She had given everything she had, even pushing her psychic power to the point of exhaustion, yet she couldn't even shake that man.
It had taken her fully two days to wake up after that fight.
And not long after waking up, she heard that King had solved a major Dragon-level disaster. She felt like the sky was falling.
Historically, she, Tatsumaki, was the one who handled major Dragon-level threats. Now, that Scarface had beaten her to it!
Her pride, self-esteem, and dissatisfaction at having her role usurped made it impossible for her to suppress her emotions. She stormed the headquarters again, demanding a rematch.
"That damn Scarface! Annoying small fry! Trash I haven't disposed of yet! He pisses me off!"
Hearing the stream of insults, Sitch's eyelids twitched. He could only continue trying to soothe the emotionally unstable loli.
If King heard these insults, the consequences would be unimaginable.
I have to calm Tatsumaki down. At least make her emotionally stable...
Underground Tunnel.
Dim lights embedded in the walls illuminated the deep passage.
King and Saitama walked unhurriedly through the tunnel, looking like tourists.
Both possessed the power to crush every living thing in this facility effortlessly. That overwhelming strength gave them the confidence to take their time.
Looking at the seemingly endless tunnel ahead, King rubbed his chin and suddenly had a mischievous idea.
"Saitama, what do you think would happen if I filled this entire tunnel with an energy blast? Would the whole underground passage collapse?"
Hearing this, Saitama paused for a moment. Then, after thinking for less than a second, he gave a thumbs up.
"Sounds like a good idea. Should we try it?"
"Sure."
King was a man of action. He extended a finger forward. With a fluctuation of spiritual power, the surrounding ambient energy and his own internal power gathered at his fingertip simultaneously.
In the next instant, a golden energy sphere capable of filling the entire tunnel expanded rapidly. Carrying destructive momentum, it shot straight forward.
At the same time.
A massive humanoid creature smashed through the laboratory doors. Clutching a bloodied Dr. Genus in his hand, Carnage Kabuto laughed maniacally as he charged into the tunnel.
He had only rushed forward a few dozen meters when his insect instincts screamed danger.
