The church's interior was beautiful. It was one of the best I had the pleasure of laying my eyes upon.
The statue infront of me added to the aesthetic. It was truly a god's domain.
An ancient god. A god that abandoned us.
I looked at the corpses hanging. It's mouth was open, dripping blood upon the statue.
Below the statue it was written in blood "Foolish are those who worship the abandoner . In the great one we trust. "
It was probably written with the blood of the priest.
I took a fine chair from the pile of broken and burned chairs and sat down infront of the statue.
I didn't feel anything.
I didn't.
But somehow it all still felt very wrong.
Like it wasn't right.
It can't be.
Something was amiss. Isn't this supposed to be a fairytale? I thought to myself.
I stayed silent for a moment, just looking at the man's pitiful corpse.
He was probably killed because he believed in a different god.
Such a foolish world.
But who am I to say, I am just an undead.
I stood back up approaching the statue, and slowly taking the corpse back down.
I looked at it.
"White..."
That was the smell of the dead man.
Even in death his smell was white.
I slowly took a bite out of his neck.
His blood was pure. Pure enough to heal my soul.
He truly was a priest.
I looked around the church but there was nothing else left to see.
I made my way to the exit.
Slowly.
Something was here.
I could see the smell.
Red.
Bright red.
I didn't dare to look back.
I could hear the sound of flesh being sliced and ruptured, followed by slight growling.
I didn't look back.
I left the church.
Closing the door behind me.
The streets were still just as empty as they were before.
The corpses of mother hugging their children, the dogs that died with its cubs, the fathers that tried to protect their families.
Not all of them deserved to die yet they did.
I walked and walked.
I wanted to find out why I was sent here.
If there truly was something of interest here.
The only building left that stood out to me was a noble's house.
It was grand. From outside the town you couldn't even tell it was here, hidden by the vast garden and lush greenery.
Somehow it remained standing.
Not even a single burn mark.
I made my way to the entrance.
Blood.
The guards were keeping watch were dead.
Eaten.
Bite marks could be clearly seen over their bodies.
I took their swords .
It was a better sword than the one I previously had
It shined brightly, on it's hilt it bear the name 'Ash keeper ', a nod to it's enchanted nature of fire.
I opened the grand door infront of me , and was presented with a path to the mansion.
I walked up to the front door, not expecting anyone to open it .
"Good day sir. May I help you? "
A man asked.
He wore a black suit , his hair had started to turn grey but his eyes had the vitality of a young man not older than twenty.
"I wish to go inside. " I answered fully expecting him to refuse.
"Very well sir, though I must say it's not a recommended place to be. You see , everyone inside is dead. The ones that are not dead will be dead soon or will try to kill you. "
He answered, not showing a hint of emotion as he spoke. His eyes looked at something but I couldn't tell what.
"I see. Regardless I wish to go inside."
"Very well"
He said as he opened the door.
The inside was clean, very clean.
I stepped inside.
The first thing I noticed was the smell.
I wasn't trying to notice it but it was overwhelming.
Black.
Everywhere I looked it was black.
I grabbed my chest , it felt like all my senses were being overwhelmed.
I took the support of my sword and made my way deeper inside.
There were stairs to go up to the first floor which I took without hesitation.
Anything was better than being on the ground floor.
On the second floor i could finally breathe.
It was much clearer.
I opened the first door I saw.
Inside was bedroom.
It was neatly kept.
On the walls there was blood, fresh blood but that too was kept in a clean manner, almost as if deliberate.
I searched the room hoping to find something.
Anything that would explain why I was here.
As I did I noticed something about the cupboard.
It had a smell.
"Grey..?"
I went closer to it, slowly opening it.
Inside was a girl.
Dying.
Melting away in a bucket of acid...or maybe saliva.
I took her out and laid her on the bed.
Soon she opened her eyes .
And she screamed.
And screamed.
And screamed.
Soon i realised she wasn't screaming in pain. No.
She was screaming looking at what's behind me.
