In the classroom, Xie Xie had already arrived with his companions. But unlike yesterday, the black-haired girl, Gu Yue, took the seat directly to his left. His former desk-mate had wisely retreated to the back row, sensing the intense atmosphere.
"Morning, Xie Xie," she said, her voice smooth.
"Morning," Xie Xie responded with a polite smile.
Beside him, Xu Xiaoyan's eyes narrowed. Why is this Gu Yue acting so familiar with Big Brother? she wondered, a prickle of jealousy fueling her resolve to train harder.
Soon, Teacher Ye Yinglo entered. "Today is our first official class. Everyone, gather at the playground downstairs. We're starting with combat practice."
The playground was bathed in morning light as the elite students of Class 1 lined up.
"The best way to understand your potential is to see it in action," Teacher Ye said. "I will referee. First group: Wei Xiaofeng and Zhang Yangzi."
The two boys stepped onto the platform, releasing their spirits. Both were Level 21 Spirit Grandmasters. Yellow rings pulsed beneath them as they clashed—Green Shadow Snake versus Dark Demon Eagle. The battle was a blur of wind and venom, drawing cheers from the students. Eventually, Zhang Yangzi's aerial advantage secured him a narrow victory.
"Next," Teacher Ye's gaze shifted, a glint of anticipation in her eyes. "Xie Xie, Gu Yue."
The atmosphere immediately grew heavy. The two "Level 29" monsters of the class stepped onto the stage.
"I won't show mercy," Gu Yue said, her amethyst eyes locking onto his.
"That's for the best," Xie Xie replied calmly. He was eager to test the current limits of the Silver Dragon King's human avatar.
"Spirit Possession!"
A cyan-blue light erupted from Xie Xie. Behind him, the majestic silhouette of the Time-Space Dragon King materialized, its presence causing the air to hum with ancient power. But it was the rings beneath his feet that caused the crowd to scream.
Purple. Purple.
"Two thousand-year rings!"
"He's only nine years old!"
Teacher Ye's heart skipped a beat. Even she, a Level 48 Spirit Ancestor, didn't have thousand-year rings in her first two slots.
"What's the surprise?" Wei Xiaofeng whispered to the class. "Boss is invincible. He conquered the Spirit Ascension Platform years ago."
Opposite him, Gu Yue didn't flinch. She raised her right hand, ice elements gathering into a sharp point. Beneath her feet, two identical purple rings shimmered into existence.
The F4 members froze. Even Gu Yue had thousand-year rings? This wasn't a battle of students; it was a clash of titans.
"Ice Spikes!" Gu Yue moved first. A massive cone of ice lunged at Xie Xie's chest.
Xie Xie didn't move. As the spike reached his personal space, it hit an invisible wall of distorted air. With a soft crack, the spatial pressure ground the ice into diamond-dust.
"Wind Blades!" Gu Yue didn't miss a beat. A dozen emerald blades of compressed air curved through the sky toward him.
"Unoriginal," Xie Xie murmured. He flicked his wrist. The spatial coordinates of the blades were instantly swapped. The wind blades did a 180-degree turn, screaming back toward Gu Yue.
She didn't dodge. With a single cold look, the blades dissolved back into raw elemental energy. She realized then that basic soul skills were useless against his spatial mastery. He hadn't even used a soul skill yet, while she had already cycled through two elements.
"Then try this." Gu Yue's smile turned sharp.
In her palms, four colors began to swirl: brown (Earth), crimson (Fire), ice-blue (Ice), and light green (Wind). The elements clashed violently before merging into a singular, vibrating gray orb. The energy density was so high it made Teacher Ye Yinglo step forward instinctively, ready to intervene. This was a Four-Element Fusion, a move that could likely threaten a Spirit Elder.
"Second Soul Skill..." Xie Xie's voice was a quiet whisper in the eye of the storm. "Time-Space Imprisonment."
The gray orb was inches from leaving Gu Yue's hand when the world simply... stopped.
Gu Yue felt the laws of physics vanish. Her body was frozen in a crystalline cage of solidified time. The massive energy orb she had painstakingly created was plucked from the air by an invisible force and relocated a hundred meters into the sky, where it detonated harmlessly behind a spatial barrier.
Xie Xie walked calmly across the platform until he was standing inches from the frozen girl. He snapped his fingers, releasing the hold.
Gu Yue gasped, staggering as her momentum returned to her. She looked at him, her eyes wide with genuine shock.
"I think we're done," Xie Xie said, his tone indifferent. "You can't beat me, Gu Yue. Not yet."
Teacher Ye stood in stunned silence. A Level 29 student had just used absolute spatial control to neutralize a Four-Element Fusion like it was child's play.
The gap between "Genius" and "Monster" had never been clearer.
