"Sure. Be my guest."
Xie Xie's expression remained unreadable as he watched Gu Yue approach. Without further word, he shifted his tray, creating space for her. He was well aware of the old adage: Blessings are not disasters, and disasters cannot be avoided. Gu Yue's presence was an inevitability. To complete her wager with Na'er, she had to infiltrate his life. Resisting her now would only complicate the long game he was playing.
"Thanks," Gu Yue said with a brief, enigmatic smile. She sat down and immediately began to sample her Grade A meal.
While the two geniuses maintained a surface-level decorum, Zhang Yangzi and the others were visibly stiff. Their forks hovered mid-air as they stole glances at the new girl. They knew she was powerful—perhaps the only person in the academy who could look their "Boss" in the eye—but her sudden familiarity was jarring. Was she really this bold with strangers?
"What's there to look at? Just eat," Xie Xie said, his voice indifferent as he continued his own meal.
"Alright, Boss," the trio chorused, immediately returning to their food with exaggerated focus. In the frantic exchange of looks that followed, it was clear they all sensed the atmosphere had shifted into dangerous territory.
Gu Yue paid no mind to the boys' posturing. Her movements were graceful, but her focus was entirely internal, centered on the boy sitting beside her.
As a fellow possessor of a Draconic lineage, she had sensed a powerful aura within him from the moment they met. But now, in close proximity, her perception sharpened. The aura she felt wasn't just strong—it was terrifying. Even her sealed Silver Dragon King Bloodline felt a vague, instinctive pressure, as if it were being suppressed by a higher order of existence.
How can a human bloodline be this dense? Gu Yue's pupils dilated slightly. It was fundamentally impossible. To exert pressure on the Silver Dragon King meant his potential rivaled or even surpassed the original Dragon God. She struggled to maintain her mask of calm.
"Xie Xie," she began, deciding to take the initiative. "I saw your Martial Soul is the Time-Space Dragon King. Can it really transcend the laws of time and space?"
Xie Xie didn't lift his head from his tray. "I don't know," he replied calmly. "Transcending time is a feat for the strongest existences in history. I don't know if I can do it yet, but it is the goal I will pursue until it is achieved."
Gu Yue nodded, her smile returning. At least he's grounded in reality, she thought. Even at the height of his power, the original Dragon God couldn't fully manipulate time. If this boy actually managed it, it would prove he was a god among gods.
"We're classmates now," Gu Yue continued, her voice soft. "I hope we can make progress together over the next few years."
Xie Xie finally looked up, giving her a brief nod of acknowledgment. "Your talent is decent as well. Let's work hard."
Decent? He calls the Silver Dragon King's talent 'decent'? Gu Yue felt a rare flash of speechlessness. He spoke as if he were a senior evaluating a promising junior. She turned back to her tray, picking at some seafood. Since the conversation had stalled, she decided to focus on the food for now.
A few minutes later, Xie Xie finished his meal. He had no intention of lingering. "We're leaving," he said to his roommates, standing up without waiting for Gu Yue to finish her half-full tray.
"I'm finished too," Gu Yue said, dropping her chopsticks and standing up immediately to follow him.
The "F4" members instinctively slowed their pace, allowing her to walk shoulder-to-shoulder with their Boss.
"Are you following us to the dorms too?" Xie Xie asked as they stepped out of the cafeteria.
"It's on the way," she replied simply.
When they reached the dormitory building, Gu Yue stopped at the stairs. "I'll see you in class tomorrow, Xie Xie."
"Yeah. See you tomorrow," he replied, his tone as flat as ever.
As they climbed the stairs to the second floor, Wei Xiaofeng couldn't contain himself. "Boss! You and Gu Yue... what's the story there?"
"We're not close," Xie Xie said, shaking his head. "She's likely just curious about my cultivation."
"Is that all?" Zhang Yangzi asked skeptically.
"I don't know, Boss," Wang Jinxi added. "The way she follows you... it feels a lot like how Sister Na'er used to."
Xie Xie paused at his door, the comparison hitting him harder than he expected. Gu Yue acting like Na'er? He let out a small, ironic chuckle. "Perhaps she is," he murmured.
But inside, he knew better. Na'er was the warmth of his three years; Gu Yue was the cold strategist of the Dragon Clan. There was a resemblance, but they were worlds apart.
"Forget the gossip. Get to your rooms and cultivate," Xie Xie commanded. He sat down cross-legged on his bed and immediately entered a deep meditative state. In this world, only raw power was real.
"Boss is so focused," Wei Xiaofeng lamented as he prepared to meditate himself. "If a girl like that approached me, I'd be planning the wedding. Life is unfair."
"That's exactly why you're still single, Xiaofeng," Wang Jinxi remarked from across the room.
In her own dormitory, Gu Yue sat on her bed, her expression cold and devoid of the smiles she had shown downstairs.
"Xie Xie is no ordinary human," she whispered. "No wonder Na'er is so attached to him. He has the discipline of a monster."
A predatory light flickered in her amethyst eyes. "But if I get closer... if I make him depend on me and pretend to fall in love..." She gave a soft, icy snort. "Na'er, what will you do then?"
In her mind, the best way to win a game was to enter the board itself.
Meanwhile, Xu Xiaoyan opened her eyes in the girls' dormitory. A strange sensation, like a premonition, prickled at the back of her mind. She shook her head, dismissing the doubt.
"It doesn't matter," she told herself, her eyes burning with newfound determination. "The only thing that matters is that I won't let anyone—especially another girl—surpass me. I will stand by Brother Xie Xie's side."
She closed her eyes and dove back into her cultivation. The competition had officially begun.
