Cherreads

Chapter 6 - Chapter Five

Haylen's POV:

I coughed roughly.

"Jacean, you're crazy!." I yelled, but the car was long out of sight.

Geez, how ungentlemanly of him to throw me out of his car!

Letting out a hum, I decided to trek home.

If Zoe were to hear about this, she'd laugh so hard at my humiliation.

.

.

Twenty minutes later…

I got into the kitchen and saw aunt Katherine, preparing dinner.

Without her notice, I hugged her from behind.

She was a bit startled before realizing it was me.

"Hey dear, how was school?." She asked me as I breathed in her familiar, old caramel scent.

"It was cool." I tightened my hold on her.

As long as I could remember, aunt Katherine has always been the mother and father figure in my life.

Mom and dad were always busy, leaving me under aunt Katherine's care, a middle aged woman whom mom had brought in as my nanny.

She might seem to be a nanny to them, but she was a mother to me.

A very warm, mother.

"That's good." I released her in order to make way for her to get the hand towel.

"Mom and Dad…are they home?." I questioned, sitting in the counter and picking up an apple to eat, even though I fully expected her answer to be no, because they had travelled for an important event or would stay overnight for a businessman and woman party.

"Honey, they said they will have to stay away from home for weeks because they have some important meetings to attend in Australia." She placed a spoon of tomato sauce she was mixing into the spaghetti.

As usual, they were busy.

"There's no problem, they are always busy."

She faced me, her blue eyes suddenly reminding me of Jacean.

About that jerk, why did he cross my mind?

"Hay, you have to know they are working this hard for your own good."

I got up, "I know I know." I kissed her on the cheek, "I'm off to bed, just keep my share of food on the table."

"Okay dear, good night."

I headed to my room and switched on the light before hopping on my bed. I was so tired I didn't even realize when I drifted into sleep.

.

.

.

Early in the morning, I got up from bed and got myself freshened up for school.

I kissed aunt Katherine goodbye and blew her a kiss as I rushed to get in the car.

When the chauffeur finally arrived at school, I stepped down and walked into the school.

I had barely walked for five minutes when I saw Jacean and his friends, practicing for football match.

Football match…how could I have forgotten that?

"Hay." I turned to see Zoe.

Her blonde hair was packed roughly. It was rare to see her pack her hair.

"It seems like you are stalking Jacean."

She waved her hand, "Nope, stalk him? I saw you walking in and decided to meet you."

"Okay." I handed my bag to her in order to fix my hair in case it was rough, "Are they having the football match today? They seem pretty serious."

She nodded her head, "Yep."

"Don't you think I should cheer for Jacean? Since you're in his team and you're the cheerleader."

"That sounds like a nice plan," she said, before continuing with a slight hesitation, "but do you know how to cheer? You know, cheerleading is one thing you hate."

"Don't you know your best friend Zoe?." I held her shoulders, "Just watch me. Hand me ur costumes for the cheerleading."

"Okay." She eventually agreed.

.

.

Trying out the clothes Zoe gave me, I found out that the skirt was a bit too short, since I was an inch or two taller than Zoe, and the top I wore…it was tight.

Holding the pompom too made me feel…silly. Stupid. Cringe.

How the hell did girls like Monica and Zoe enjoy wearing such stuffs? I felt like a pick me seeking for males' attention.

However, I pushed the thoughts aside and tied my hair into a rough bun before putting on the socks.

Satisfied with my look, I made my way to the field where my team girls were busy practicing, waiting for me, their cheerleader.

"Haylen?." One of the girls called out in surprise, obviously not expecting me to show up instead of Zoe.

I grinned, "Sorry for the late update, but Zoe and I switched places."

"How?" The same girl earlier asked.

"She doesn't wish to take part today, so I told her I could help her with it."

"You don't know anything about cherleading," Sandy, Zoe's assistant chimed in, reluctance clear in her face, " and you don't like cheerleading too, if I recall correctly. You hate it and even called it lame because you claimed it was way too girly."

I waved her off, "I did hate cheerleading and still do, but Zoe isn't here and I want to give it a try. It won't hurt right?."

Seeing the unrelenting look on my face, they all had no choice but let me.

.

.

When the bell was rung, signaling that the match would soon start, I turned to the girls. "Alright girlies, let's show them what we have got."

With that said, we all arranged ourselves and coincidentally, I made eye contact with Monica, who had a stunned expression.

I smiled maliciously at her before raising the pompom, when I realized Jacean and his team were already playing.

Monica was cheering for the other team.

Seeing that Jacean was winning, I started screaming, "Go Jaceababy! You can do this!."

"That's not how to do it Haylen!." Sandy said behind me, "You shouldn't be yelling his name out loud yet, he will lose focus."

I stared back at her with chills in my eyes I could literally see fear reflect in her eyes, "Who's the leader here, me or you?."

She looked away at my question.

I rolled my eyes and continued screaming till I got Jacean's attention.

He was surprised to see me, and I winked at him.

That made him lose the ball to someone else, his opponent.
