My footsteps echo against the stone walkway as I make my way toward Gideon's office, the oracle clutched tightly in my palm. Charlette's warning circles through my thoughts like a haunting melody. She spoke the truth - as long as breath fills my lungs, every demon will view me as nothing more than a weapon to wield against the angels. Even Hugo sees that potential in me.
The only way to make them hesitate would be having my aunts and uncles pledge their protection over me.
Leonard might overpower a single archangel, but facing all of them together? Even he wouldn't dare attempt such foolishness.
Yet convincing my less-than-angelic relatives to spare my life, let alone shield me from harm? The odds seem laughable. I'd have better luck persuading Death himself to let me climb onto his horse and terrorize some unsuspecting villages together.
