Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Nagazora City, Honkai Beast Buffet

Chaos and catastrophe are born in an instant. As for so-called predictions, they can't save that many people anyway.

But all of this… Vya knew nothing about.

Vya lay quietly across Mobius's office chair, her little feet dangling gently in the air. Propping her chin in her hands, she watched Klein busily working at the computer without blinking.

Mobius was busy too at the moment, mixing some pale green liquid at the lab bench, and had no time to mind her.

"Klein, sis… why are you always so busy?"

Vya asked curiously.

"Huh?"

Klein straightened up in puzzlement, rubbing her sore neck, and turned to look at Vya.

The little girl was already a regular in the lab, coming almost every day.

This wasn't strange, of course. Dr. Mobius seemed to actually like children.

What was strange was… sometimes Mobius would feed Vya some weird things.

Klein hadn't dared to ask. There were some things one shouldn't inquire about, a principle Klein understood quite well.

So, facing Vya's question, she quickly offered an answer.

"Busy? Isn't that just normal…"

"Why do you have to do so many things? Vya doesn't understand."

Vya tilted her head, making Klein want to smile. "How to put it… Some things are just there. Someone has to do them."

"Oh…" Vya blinked. "Vya doesn't really get it." She shook her head again.

Klein thought for a moment. "Then… what does Vya want to do?"

"Vya… Vya wants to study hard now, and listen to her big sisters."

"That's good enough. Children don't need to think too much. You'll understand when you grow up."

Klein said. She wasn't very good at teaching children, so that was all she could offer.

"When will Vya grow up?"

Vya, propping her little head in her hands, slowly pondered… Time passed quickly.

Mobius tossed the protective suit stained with unknown substances into a waste container, then cleaned herself up and walked over to Vya and Klein.

Klein was still working diligently. Vya, unsure what to do, remained seated on the swivel chair, swinging her legs idly…

"Mobius, sis! All done?"

"Mhm. What are you up to? Finished your homework?"

"All done!"

Vya said happily.

"Then why aren't you out playing? Aren't you bored?"

"Vya missed sis…"

Mobius bent down. Vya could clearly see the collarbone and hint of curves revealed by the neckline of Mobius's white coat, but Vya wasn't Elysia—she didn't pay it any mind…

'There's that Elysia again…'

The corner of Mobius's mouth quirked up, and she said with a smile,

"…Then why don't you go find her, hmm?"

"Wow, really?!"

Vya immediately grew excited, her eyes sparkling.

Before Elysia left, she had specifically told Vya to stay put in the base and not run around outside.

But she really missed her sister… Even if she couldn't be right beside Elysia, just seeing that pink light would make her happy…

"Go on. Just remember to come back early."

"Thank you, Mobius, sis!"

"Oh, and if you see anything pretty, or anything strange, remember to bring it back for me to see."

Mobius added unhurriedly.

"Vya understands."

Vya was already at the door. She turned and waved.

"Goodbye, Mobius, sis!"

"Goodbye, Klein, sis!"

Ever since Mobius had come over, Klein had been listening to their entire conversation.

Why did Mobius's tone just now sound so much like she was tricking a child into doing something bad…

Forget it…

"Doctor, is it really alright?"

Klein asked tentatively.

"It's fine. She'll come back."

Mobius replied casually. There was no need to explain such things to Klein.

"Oh, alright."

Klein didn't dare ask further. Vya should be fine. After all, she was just a kid. She probably wouldn't go to any dangerous places.

Probably…

Vya slowed her pace. There were lots of tasty Honkai beasts around, big and small, some delicious, some just average…

Perfect timing, as she was a bit tired. Might as well grab a bite to eat first. From here, she could already see the faint pink light from her sister. Although dim, it was still visible.

'As long as someone has a deep connection with Vya and their own light is bright enough, Vya can see that person's light even from very far away.'

Vya was thrilled because she could finally have a proper meal!

This place was simply heaven!

Just then, however, Vya saw another familiar light…

A deep purple… that's it!

It was a very familiar one—Sis Mei!

The one she'd met together with Mobius, sis, who had even answered a question for her—what is a human?

'…Humans have their own thoughts. Thoughts make us keep thinking, understanding the world, understanding others, and understanding ourselves.'

Vya remembered the answer to that question very clearly.

Mei was currently hiding behind a collapsed building, intently watching a certain direction, seeming very concerned…

Vya slowly walked over, planning to give her a surprise.

"Sis Mei…!"

Vya called out softly.

"Huh!?"

Mei was startled. After all, she was still a high school student. Having just gone through this sudden disaster…

Naturally, she was still a bit scared.

"Sis Mei, it's me~"

Vya gently tugged at Mei's school uniform skirt. It would be fun if it came off… Ahem, just kidding.

Mei looked down and saw a somewhat familiar little girl.

The scene felt déjà vu, like when they first met.

"You are…"

"…Vya?"

Mei asked anyway.

"It's me~"

Vya replied with a smile, but looking at the smile on her face, Mei couldn't feel happy.

Why was this child here? Wasn't she with Mobius? How could she be in a place like this?

Moreover, a child appearing in a place like this… wasn't that just bizarre?

Mei was afraid she was hallucinating. What about Kevin then…

"Why are you here?"

Mei asked urgently.

"I'm looking for my sister."

Vya answered very honestly.

"Is Dr. Mobius here too?"

If that was the case, then things were bad. Mei had already assessed the situation. These monsters had appeared out of nowhere. She and Kevin had barely managed to escape from Senba Academy.

If Mobius was here too, then the situation was very serious… or rather, the implications became much more complicated.

"Nope, Mobius, sis isn't here. I'm looking for Elysia, sis."

"I see…"

Mei let out a sigh of relief and asked Vya a few more questions, but ultimately didn't learn anything useful.

Suddenly… a crashing sound came from the distance, and Mei's face turned pale again.

She peeked out carefully—Kevin was wielding a baseball bat, "battling" a behemoth.

Classmate Kevin was still bravely going one-on-one with the Chariot. Truly amazing!

Let's cheer him on for now!
