"Just a brat."
Kaito took one last glance at the wailing Sirin before remembering this was the Boss's office. He looked toward Bronya with an apologetic expression.
"You really don't have a shred of chivalry in you, do you?"
Bronya's lips twitched. She didn't actually have any intention of standing up for Kiana. If anything, the fact that she hadn't stood up for Kaito earlier was already a courtesy to Kiana being her best friend. After all, Kaito's personality wasn't the type to bully a kid without reason... even if he did just floor Kiana with a single palm strike.
"Who's going to cherish me if I'm busy cherishing them? I'm not going to stop myself from hitting her just because she has a 'reason' for being annoying."
"My family taught me from a young age: gender equality!" Kaito argued righteously.
Aren't you an orphan? Bronya was full of retorts but kept them to herself.
Then, she heard the sound of Kiana gritting her teeth:
"Awesome..."
Huh? Bronya froze. What did Kiana just say? Kaito hadn't hit her in the head, had he? She instinctively tightened her arm around Kiana.
Good bestie, please don't awaken some weird fetish!
While she was feeling lost, she heard Kiana add in a voice as thin as a mosquito's buzz, but every word dripped with blood and tears:
"Sirin, you deserved that!"
"Kaito... keep going, don't stop..."
Are you two really biological sisters? Bronya wondered. Though, she supposed she used to spend a lot of time pinning Sin Mal and Liliya down for a beating too.
But Kiana didn't dare say it out loud in the end; she could only stew in her own frustration. Judging by that, they probably were sisters—the kind with a long-standing grudge.
"I'm heading back to work then."
As Kaito pushed the door to leave, he glanced at Sirin again. The girl, who had been bawling, instantly sucked her tears back in, forcing them to stay in her red-rimmed eyes. Her big, watery eyes looked like they were on the verge of a dam break at any second.
"Boss, can you handle this kid?" Kaito's final inquiry came from outside, his voice already back to its usual tone.
"I'm... fine. Go back to work." A sense of pity forced Bronya to squeeze out a strained smile.
Actually, she wasn't fine. She hated bratty kids—Liliya, Rozaliya, Sin Mal, and even Mei-姉 back when they were little.
After Kaito left, the tears on the other side finally stopped, though a few "little pearls" still dropped occasionally from Sirin's big eyes. She sniffled while wiping her face.
"I'm telling you now, if you plan to use family influence to retaliate, Anti-Entropy won't sit idly by," Bronya warned.
Sirin wanted to glare at Bronya fiercely, but as soon as she exerted any effort, her tears started falling again.
"I..." She tried her best to make her voice sound less shaky. "I... won't... do something so classless."
"But that traitor... I'm not done with him!"
Bronya sensed something and looked down, only to find that upon hearing those words, Kiana's face—previously contorted in pain—had actually managed to squeeze out a tiny smile. Kiana gripped Bronya's fingers tightly, like a dying person giving a final warning, her voice low and full of expectation:
"He... he won't go easy on girls, right?"
What do you mean? You want revenge too?
"He won't."
Bestie, don't do anything stupid!
That's good, that's good. Kiana looked relieved, as if some great burden had been lifted, and slumped completely into Bronya's embrace.
"Kiana! Kiana!!! Don't scare me like this!!!"
"What happened in the office?"
Back at his workstation, before lunch break ended, Kaito was surrounded by several colleagues he got along with.
"A brat showed up. I gave her a lesson."
"Nice! I've been fed up with bratty kids for ages. Did the Boss say anything?"
"The Boss is super protective. She's probably laughing on the inside," Kaito guessed. After all, Bronya was a bit of a "black-bellied" prankster herself. He'd heard she beat the attitude out of Sin Mal, Liliya, and Rozaliya when they were kids.
However, Bronya didn't find it funny at all. Looking at Sirin, she felt like the top-tier modeler she'd worked so hard to lure over was about to head home. Kiana was the strongest modeler, capable of using "Heavenly Soul-Possession" to achieve perfection for the sake of beauty!
"Leaving?"
Kiana, having finally caught her breath, let out a cold laugh and tapped away on her keyboard: "This Young Lady is living here this year! If Sirin doesn't leave, I'm not leaving!"
She hadn't seen Sirin cry her eyes out in a variety of ways yet; how could she possibly leave? Otherwise, that palm strike she took would have been for nothing. Hiss! Her back touched the chair, and she instantly inhaled a sharp breath of cold air.
The medicine applied to her back was a bit chilly. Dammit, Kaito, why didn't you just slap me into the next life? At least that would've been quick.
Bronya: "Are you sure you aren't going home to rest today? [Concerned.jpg]"
Kiana: "Rest? Has Sirin finished crying? [Fierce Cat Face.jpg]"
Kiana: "By the way, can you guys disclose employee home addresses? I'll pay to rent a place for her."
Kiana: "If Sirin thinks the Feng Shui is bad, I'll pay for Kaito to change houses. It's best if those two run into each other every single day!"
With Sirin's petty, vengeful personality, new conflicts were bound to arise. Maybe she'd get floored again. Although Sirin was easy to coax, Kaito didn't seem like the type to coax a stranger.
Bronya: "..."
Your sisterly bond is truly... something else.
Bronya hesitated for a moment but resisted the urge to join the chaos. "I can't really disclose that."
Kiana: "It's fine. I'll pay to hire someone to find her! I want to see how many times she has to get slapped to tears before she learns her place."
Kiana grit her teeth. She stopped obsessing over the modeling herself and sought help from her seniors to finish it, then checked her "little treasury." She still had plenty of money. Since Sirin often snatched her things, she hadn't had much desire to spend lately.
An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. This time, she was the one who started the trouble; she'd be lucky if Kaito didn't hold a grudge... but she was keeping a massive mental ledger for Sirin, the root of all the evil.
Bronya: "To be honest, your mindset reminds me of the romance dramas I watched as a kid. Your sister will likely awaken a weird fetish, a bunch of nonsensical plot points will happen, and then there'll be a 'happy ending' for everyone."
Most romance dramas followed that formula: from enemies to rivals, then somehow a "hero saves the beauty" moment or a minor act of kindness changes everything, leading to a grand finale.
Kiana: "I WANT NOTHING MORE THAN TO SEE HER GET MARRIED OFF!!!"
Even if the "helping her out after marriage" plot didn't happen—mostly because she couldn't win a fight anyway—just the thought of Sirin getting slapped into a wall made her happy! No matter how big the grudge, just imagining Sirin possibly marrying a man who can fire a sniper rifle one-handed with perfect accuracy would make everything better. Even if she didn't get married, getting beaten a few more times would clear Kiana's mood.
What? You say Kaito might be a "good man" in private?
Stop making your Sister Kiana laugh. Once he slaps you into a wall, your fantasies will vanish.
