Kaito's hand holding the package stiffened slightly. Kiana's reaction speed was almost a reflex... wait, had she actually trained herself to make that a conditioned reflex?
"Boss, your delivery."
He set the package aside, settling in comfortably to watch the drama unfold.
"It's Kiana's," Bronya explained casually, leaning against the edge of the desk while casting a subtle, imperceptible glance at Kaito.
This idiot. If he scares Kiana away, I'll be short one reliable modeler.
Would I have to outsource important plot characters then? Kiana put serious effort into modeling just for the sake of "culture"... I mean, to perfectly recreate the scenes in her mind. She'd even use her "Heavenly Soul-Possession" technique to achieve perfection!
Sirin had originally stored up a bellyful of rage to lecture her little sister, but with bigger things at stake, she endured. Deal with the traitor first, then handle family business.
Kiana kept her head down, her eyes darting left and right. Occasionally, when Sirin wasn't looking, she shot a savage glare at Kaito—the "guide" who led the enemy to her.
It's over, it's over. Next, this wicked Sirin is definitely going to—
"You're right, Kiana. Big Sister was wrong in the past."
Sirin actually backed down.
?
Kiana froze. "Who are you? Get out of my ill-tempered, annoying, and vertically-challenged sister's body right now!"
Her sister was wicked, but she was her sister. Replacing her with a character who was gentle as water but actually an ancient monster—now that was terrifying. She hated ghost stories.
Veins reappeared faintly on Sirin's porcelain arms. She took a deep breath. Endure!
"I won't snatch your manga anymore."
Sirin struggled to make her tone sound gentle and credible. Kiana nodded, her inner monologue snorting. Got bored of the manga, didn't you.
"And I won't steal your game console either."
Kiana nodded again. Figures. You cleared the new game and it's not fun anymore, right.
"We're... sisters, aren't we?" Sirin tried to play the emotional card.
Not necessarily, Kiana muttered internally. You have purple hair and golden eyes. Even if Bianka mutated into a blonde, yours was natural.
Sirin tentatively reached out, wanting to ruffle Kiana's hair to show affection, but Kiana instinctively took a half-step back like a startled rabbit.
Both of them froze mid-motion.
Kiana: Oh boy, I'm dead! Habitual defense kicked in.
"I feel like her veins are about to pop," Kaito commented in a low voice from the side, adding as if reciting a textbook:
"By the way, bulging veins aren't just caused by clenching your fists; surging blood pressure and a massive adrenaline spike can also cause localized congestion."
Bronya glanced at Kaito, then couldn't help but look at him again after a moment.
At this moment, Sirin was chanting internally: Don't get mad, don't get mad. The traitor is right here. Focus on the big picture. Big picture!
Ultimately, she managed to place her hand on her little sister's head, ruffling it with a stiff, mechanical motion.
"Little sister, can you do Big Sister a favor?"
Her voice was sickeningly sweet, carrying a girlish trill that didn't quite suit her age.
"What favor?"
The dagger is out! The idiom flashed through Kiana's mind instantly. She had graduated from university, after all, and even attended book clubs with Mei and Bronya! Even if she mostly spent the time staring into space with a grumpy cat face.
"Someone... bullied me."
Sirin looked like she was about to cry.
Kiana blinked her beautiful blue eyes. "What kind of bullying? Is it a good thing?" She asked with innocence and hope. "Mom and Dad have been nagging about your marriage forever."
If Sirin got married off, it would be a blessing; she wouldn't have time to pester Kiana anymore. The house would be peaceful. Maybe if Sirin got bullied after marriage, she'd even have to come crawling to Kiana for help!
That future felt like eating two popsicles in one go on a hot summer day. Just thinking about it was... AWESOME!!!
"I got beaten up."
Sirin was concise. Actually, it was more than a beating—her heart had been pierced—but if she said that, Kiana would likely burst out laughing.
"Oh..."
Kiana let out a soft response, her disappointment palpable. Just a beating? What a waste of excitement.
"We're family, after all." Sirin grabbed her hand, her voice full of sincerity. "I hope this time you'll stand by me unconditionally."
"Who was it? I'll teach them a lesson for you."
Kiana forced herself to perk up. She was her sister, even if Sirin was probably picked up from a trash can.
"Him."
Sirin pointed precisely at Kaito, who was watching the show. Kaito blinked, pointing at himself. "Me?"
Kaito?
Kiana's gaze shifted between the two. Kaito, the... eccentric who mistook her for a melancholy beauty?
"Do you not believe me?"
Sirin's voice rose instantly, sounding incredulous. They were sisters! Blood was thicker than water!
Should I believe her?
Who exactly was the one who stole my manga, snatched my console, ate my cake, wore my little dresses, and then acted spoiled to snitch on me first since we were kids!
Ugh, fine... She sighed internally. She is my sister, after all.
"Sorry, Kaito."
Kiana cracked her knuckles, her eyes turning dangerous. Who told you to be the guide!
I flew over seven thousand kilometers just to escape this stinky sister. Seven thousand!!!
"Wait—wait a minute, Kiana!"
Bronya called out quickly but didn't move an inch, instinctively closing her eyes.
She was too late. With a muffled thud, Kaito had already floored Kiana with a single palm strike.
Kiana curled up on the floor, her body twitching from the shock of the impact. There was no defiance left, only a piercing pain that made her emit intermittent, weak moans. Her breath was thin as silk.
Sirin, I [Redacted]! If he actually bullied you, would you even be alive to come back and snitch to me?
Bronya finally dared to open her eyes and hurried over to help her best friend up, her eyes full of pity. "Why did you try to fight him? Back at Anti-Entropy, Kaito could land five shots on a moving target at 50 meters with one hand."
Kaito's performance scores always hovered between 10.1 and 10.9; his physical stats were monstrous in every category.
"And are you sure this is your biological sister?" she asked, casting a soul-piercing look toward Sirin, who was still trying to "act tough" with her chin raised.
"Say that again and she's your sister!" Kiana replied, barely regaining her ability to think, her rebuttal coming by instinct.
To hell with family pride. Kiana, still trembling, pulled back her collar. Using her flexibility, she managed to glimpse the mark on her back—it was bruised dark purple with pinpricks of blood starting to surface.
"Wait—wait! You already hit my little sister, you can't hit me too!"
Sirin snapped out of her shock as Kaito turned his gaze toward her. Her mouth clamped shut, and her high-held chin dropped instantly.
She still didn't understand how her "monster-strength" scholarship-student sister had been perfectly evaded and then "executed" on the spot.
If you're this strong, why were you being experimented on in the dream!
Kaito flashed a brilliant smile. "Sorry. I've believed in gender equality since I was a kid."
"Kaito! I am the eldest daughter of the Kaslana family, you wouldn't dare—ugh!"
"Waaaaah!! (つ﹏⊂)"
Kaito, we aren't done! Not by a long shot!
Waaaah~
