"Hold on tight."
"Huh?"
Before Thrud could say anything else, Magni started running and accelerating.
"SLOW DOWN! YOU'RE TOO FAST!"
"You hold on tight. Leave the rest to me."
Although he didn't fully control his powers, he was slowly starting to get used to them. He was learning quickly. After reaching the desired speed, he asked which way the school was.
"To the left, the yellow building a few blocks away."
"Got it. We're launching."
"We're launching? AAA!!!"
Magni leaped with acceleration. The two of them glided through the air. Thrud was experiencing fear and happiness at the same time. Loudly,
"The city looks so tiny from here."
"Yes. Is that your school down there?"
"Yes, that's it!"
Magni tried to find a safe place to land. He aimed for the patch of dirt next to the school and landed there. The attention of the entire school was on them.
"Magni, that was... amazing! Can you pick me up again on the way out? Please!!!"
"Uh, maybe. I can't promise."
"Okay! See you later."
Thrud walked towards her school. People around her crowded around her.
"Who was the person who brought you?"
"Can you introduce me to him?"
"Is he your brother?"
"Is he a Cosmyth user?"
The attention focused on Thrud also made Magni proud. After stretching his body, he started running again. After accelerating, he leaped towards his own school. From here, he could see the other students talking in the school yard. A few people from his own class were there too. Sol, Luna, Urania, and Hecate. Heracles was also there. He landed next to them. Everyone turned to see who had arrived. They were surprised when they saw Magni. Sol,
"Magni! How did you—"
"Yes, I can control my Cosmyth a little bit now."
"That's great! You're one of us now. An Heir."
He greeted Heracles and the others too. Urania,
"Hey! You weren't on the bus this morning, what happened?"
"Nothing important, I was just late."
"Ah, I see. I was worried about you. I thought maybe you were resting after what happened yesterday."
Magni asked a question he was curious about,
"Why do you call these powers 'Heirloom' and yourselves 'Heirs'? I call it 'Cosmyth."
Sol and Luna answered in turn,
"We call it Heirloom because these powers are remnants passed down from our lineage. The powers they left us. The reason we say Heir is for convenience. 'Cosmyth user' is too long."
"Cosmyth is the term used more formally, but there is no right or wrong naming convention. You can use either."
Magni finally understood. He had been wondering about this for a long time. Magni,
"Cosmyth is such an amazing thing! Do you always feel this way?"
Everyone looked at each other and said at the same time,
"Yes."
Aidoneus suddenly appeared and put his hand on Magni's shoulder,
"I see you've started using your Cosmyth."
"A little," Magni said modestly.
"If you ask me, that's a tremendous performance for someone who hasn't even been using his power for 24 hours."
"Still not as good as the rest of the class, sir."
"These things take time, Magni."
"By the way, sir, there is something I need to discuss with you."
"What is it?"
"Is there any chance I could stay in the school dorm for a while?"
"Why? There is only one student staying in the dorm. He stays here because he has no family."
"When I was sleeping yesterday, I saw the moment we fought. I lashed out. There is a huge hole in my room's wall and a nightstand embedded in my bathroom door."
"In that case, you can stay, Magni. But you need to get permission from the school principal first. He's a bit busy right now. I'll get the permission for you."
"Thank you, sir! Who is the student staying in the dorm besides me?"
"Your classmate, Han."
Han had no family. As his captain, he wanted to talk to him. He himself grew up without a father. He thought he could understand Han to some extent. Aidoneus,
"Classes are about to start. Come on, everyone to your classrooms."
All the students dispersed. Class started a few minutes later. The lesson was Ancient Languages.
The students sat down in their seats. The door opened, and a middle-aged woman with brown hair, about 1.60 meters tall, entered. The woman put the books in her hand on her desk and turned to the class.
"Hello everyone. My name is Metis. I am the Heir of the Goddess of Wisdom, Metis, who shares the same name as me. I will be teaching you Ancient Languages. It's beneficial for you to know these languages, so I hope you listen to me carefully. If you'd like, introduce yourselves one by one. Since I am not always here, I haven't been able to look at the class information form."
Everyone stood up one by one and introduced themselves to their new teacher. Metis expressed that she particularly liked the class's respect. She hadn't heard even a whisper since she entered. When it was Magni's turn to introduce himself, he stood up.
"Magni Hyperaspis, Heir of Thor, the God of Thunder. I think?"
"What do you mean? You don't know what your Cosmyth is?"
"I gained my Heirloom yesterday. I haven't fully grasped it yet. Besides, there are no known Cosmyth users in my family."
"Are you first generation? That's incredible! It means you'll have to manage on your own without knowing how to use your Heirloom and without techniques passed down through generations. That's what I want to see, Magni. Although I only teach Ancient Languages, your situation has made me curious. How far will you go?"
"I'm curious too."
After Magni sat down in his chair, Metis began the lesson. In this class, they would be studying Ancient Greek. Although there were minimal differences from modern Greek, it was one of the languages that had undergone the least change overall. Since his mother was from here and he had lived here since birth, Magni spoke Greek as his native language. However, he had also learned Scandinavian as a child, as his father had instructed his mother beforehand. Metis opened pictures of a few old texts and asked them to write down as much as they understood from them.
No one except Sol and Luna was able to do a word-for-word translation. The average accuracy rate of most people was around 75-80%. Seeing this, Metis,
"Sol and Luna, might you have taken Ancient Greek lessons as children?"
Before Sol could speak, Luna interjected,
"Our mother was a teacher, she taught us. Unfortunately, she passed away in an unfortunate accident."
"I'm sorry to hear that. I hope your mother is in a place where she is happy."
For an unknown reason, Sol's face fell. It was as if he blamed himself for the situation. He pulled himself together as soon as he saw Magni looking at him.
He signaled "It's okay!" with his hand and continued to listen to Metis.
Metis did the full translation of the picture and asked everyone to take notes. She mentioned that this would be necessary for them in many places, and in some situations, it would be vital. For example, they would use it to follow the instructions necessary to get out if they were sent on a dungeon mission. Or they would use it to communicate with certain mythical creatures.
After the class ended, Urania and Aurora gathered the class and made an announcement.
Urania, "Friends! We want to do something together."
Aurora, "We were thinking of going to the cinema. Of course, we can do other things too. What do you say?"
Everyone looked at each other. At first, they couldn't agree on a common topic. Everyone was suggesting different ideas. Finally, they decided to meet at a cafe first and then go to the cinema. They set Friday as the day for the event. They needed to get permission from Aidoneus to hold the event on Friday. Until the next class started, they discussed the incident that happened to everyone last night. The men in suits. They had visited everyone's house in the evening. The entire class was now high-level citizens.
The ease provided by this citizenship came with difficulties. They were now officially the government's strongest weapons. All of them were expected to fulfill this duty properly. As soon as the class started, the class excitedly gathered around Aidoneus. Urania,
"Sir, we want to plan an activity for Friday, but we wanted to ask you because we have classes."
"Alright, if it's okay with Mina and Selkis, I can arrange permission for you. So, what are you going to do?"
"The class will go to a cafe first and then to the cinema. We thought we could get to know each other better this way."
"Good, I'm glad. The more information you have about each other, the better. Make good use of this permission. But now we need to start the lesson. Today's topic will be tactics. Get ready and come to the training area. I'll be waiting for you there," he said and left the classroom.
Everyone went downstairs and entered the locker room to change. When Magni opened his locker, the clothes inside had been changed. His outfit was now made of a material that was looser, elastic, but felt like fabric than before. When he looked at the label of the outfit, he saw that its contents included; storm clouds, world tree rubber, and copper. Although he didn't understand the materials at first, he realized that the clothes were made by the Svartalfheim dwarves. Dwarves are known for the weapons and products they make using unusual materials. This explained the materials.
After Magni got dressed, he went outside and waited for his team. After everyone arrived, they set off together. On the way, they were discussing what kind of plan they could make.
Magni, "Now that I can use my powers, I can take an active role in the battle. I think the tactic should be to catch them individually with suitable matchups."
Han, "I agree with the captain, now the main thing we need to figure out is who should face whom for an advantage?"
Urania, "I'll take Amor. His powers won't work on me, and I know how to fight. I can beat him if we fight hand-to-hand. I used to take martial arts lessons."
Han, "I'll take Neptune. He is slow compared to me. Also, water doesn't hinder me much. On the other hand, if I fight Sol, the light prevents me from seeing, so the probability of landing a proper blow is very low."
Aurora, "I'll take Luna. I have the best defense, and if I can get close enough to her, she won't stand a chance against me."
Hecate, "Well, then I'll take Diana. Even if we can't defeat each other, I can stall her. Plus, even if I don't win, she's my friend. I'll keep her out of the battle."
According to these matchups, Sol was left for Magni. Both were fast and agile. The only problem was that Sol was much more experienced than him. Still, he had previously incapacitated him with a single blow. He hoped he could do it again.
"I will also fight Sol. I need to move our fight away from you. My power is currently extremely destructive. You could get hurt. Also, I don't want to interfere with your fight. The closer we fight, the more help they will receive from each other. And we don't have that many experienced fighters."
Han, "You're right, Captain. Sol and Neptune are the strongest ones anyway. If we defeat them, it means we win."
"Alright, team! Prepare yourselves, let's get revenge for yesterday."
The Blue Team was united with joy and belief. At the same time, the Red Team was preparing its own tactics.
Magni's body was bleeding with cuts. Although he couldn't feel the wounds due to the adrenaline, he was losing blood.
Sol, "Listen to me! We will use a tactic similar to the one we used yesterday. The difference is that this time we will spread out and surround them. Try to draw everyone to the center. We will trap them in a cage. The more we narrow the area, the more effective my and Neptune's attacks will be. Any questions?"
Diana, "Are we going to fight alone? But, Amor and I aren't that effective on our own, wouldn't it be better to have a different plan?"
Luna, "You're right in a way, but if Sol's tactic is successful, we will defeat them without having to try too hard. Besides, he's the captain."
Neptune, "Luna is right. We must obey Sol's orders. How can a team succeed if they don't listen to their captain's orders?"
Amor, "Although I don't really like the idea, it has to be this way. Also, we don't fully know the limits of Magni's power."
Sol, "Exactly, Amor. That's precisely why we must scatter and gather them all in one place. Plus, he can't fully control his power. He won't use it so as not to harm his team."
The Red Team's tactics were also set. The captain's word was absolute on this team. They had a heavier hierarchy compared to the Blue Team. Both teams reached the training area. They lined up on either side of Aidoneus and waited for their teacher to give the commands. Aidoneus,
"Yes, today's topic is tactics. The side that captures everyone on the opposing team wins. You will decide where on the field you will start. I will not give you time to determine your tactics. During the battle, you will need to change your strategies to adapt to the environment. It will be the unique move that either backfires and sets you back, or propels you past the other side. I will be watching from up here. Good luck."
When Aidoneus's speech was over, both sides descended to the field. The Red Team scattered and spread out over a wide area. Magni's team, on the other hand, had positioned themselves in a narrower area. The battle began with Aidoneus's signal. Both teams were waiting for a sign from the opposing side. They would detect each other's locations at the slightest movement. Something had been bothering Magni since his powers emerged. His senses seemed to have sharpened. The slightest movement around him caused a strange feeling inside his head. Although he didn't know what it was, he thought it would be good if he trusted this feeling. The feeling he couldn't explain told him there was movement somewhere not too far away. He sensed that someone or something was moving there. While he would normally walk straight ahead and approach the center, he surrendered to this feeling. He deviated from the route in his mind and started walking diagonally. He knew he was getting closer. The surroundings were very quiet. If he were his yesterday's self in the spot he was in now, he would be uneasy. He would consider turning back before advancing. However, Magni was not that young man from yesterday. He now had powers. Trusting this, he continued to advance. After walking a little further, he saw him. This person was Sol. Immediately after seeing Sol, their eyes met.
Sol, "Magni! I see you. You cannot... escape me!!!" he said and hurled his spear of light at him.
Magni activated his power and dodged the attack, but he was still struggling to control his speed. He slammed his back into the wall on the side he darted towards. A small dent formed in the wall, and fragments crumbled to the ground. He barely felt the impact of this blow. He took a deep breath and emerged from where he was.
"I am not running from you, Sol. Besides, I want to test my power. Come on, two captains... let's settle the score!"
Magni, with a sudden move, swung his fist at Sol. Sol dodged the punch without difficulty, and with the spear he had reformed, he drew a cut across Magni's chest. Magni clenched his fists; lightning coiled around his hands as if flowing through his veins. He took his guard, and they started clashing at full speed. Magni's fast and lightning-charged punches versus Sol's high-heat spear of light.
