Chapter 13 - Chapter-13: Meeting

Magni: "I'm Scandinavian. My father died in an accident before I was even born. My mother raised me and my sibling. Later, I found out that she actually wasn't my biological sister. In the same accident where my father died, our neighbor also lost their life. Since she had no one else, my mother took the neighbor's daughter in and moved back to her hometown in the Greek region. After staying there for a while, we moved back to the Scandinavian region. While there, I started playing for the school basketball team. After getting injured in my last match, I never played again. With Ms. Selkis's help, I've finally healed. Maybe I'll start playing again, who knows."

Han: "I don't have much of a story to tell. I grew up without a mother or father. A man I could call my master took me in, but after a series of events, I lost him too. Later, I found a family. After an argument with them, I came here. When the state saw I was a Cosmyth user, they took me in. I've been here ever since. When I'm not at school, I continue to practice my swordsmanship. I have nothing better to do."

Urania: "My life is quite ordinary. I live with my parents. Since they were sure I would have powers, I started various courses at a young age—fighting, art. I even acted in some children's commercials for a short period. Now, I'm here. Usually, when I'm home, I spend my time with my cats."

Hekate: "My life was ordinary too. Diana and I have known each other since childhood; our families already knew each other. When my powers first manifested, I trapped the entire neighborhood in darkness. Other than that, nothing extraordinary happened. In my spare time, I design clothes."

Diana: "As Hekate said, we've been together since we were kids. I didn't know I had powers until two years ago. My father sent me to an archery course. Even though I had never used a bow before, when I lined up all five arrows right on top of each other in the center ring, they realized I wasn't normal. That's how they decided to send me to this school. I love watching anime and reading manga. I also draw as a hobby."

Sol: "My sister's and my powers appeared the moment we were born. Our family was already expecting us to be born with a Legacy. Training began before we could even experience a childhood. We were trained just like ancient Greek warriors. Our father never compromised on discipline."

Luna: "When we were seven, our mother had a major accident. We lost her in that accident. The process was very difficult for all of us. Somehow, we managed to hold onto life. We continued our training without a break because that was our mother's wish."

Aurora: "My parents divorced three years ago. I live with my mother. I spend my free time playing games and watching series. Other than that, there's nothing else I do."

Amor: "Last year, I had a fight with my family. I left home and started living on my own. I was aware of my power before. I used it to my advantage and became a model. The money was great. I've dated a lot of models. There are very few people among celebrities that I don't know. Now, I'm looking for a more serious relationship."

Neptune: "My mother is a sea nymph, and my father is human. I was born in the temple of Poseidon, the God of the Sea. No one expected me to have powers. In history, there has never been anyone with the Legacy of Poseidon before me. I lived in the sea with my mother until I was 15. I hadn't met anyone human-like except for sea nymphs. On my 15th birthday, my father invited me to live with him. I accepted because I was bored of the sea. He is a hydrologist. For the first year, he studied me constantly—my movements, my relationship with water... For a whole year, I was like my father's lab rat. Now, I only see him on weekends."

Now everyone knew each other better. The classmates felt closer. Magni was surprised that Han had opened up only to him; this man trusted him, and Magni didn't want to fail that trust. After finishing their coffees, they left the cafe to go to the cinema. The movie theater wasn't far, so they decided to walk. On the way, everyone was asking each other questions.

Han asked Diana what kind of weapons she liked using most; Amor asked Hekate about her clothing designs; Luna asked Neptune about life in the sea; Sol asked Urania about the martial arts she knew; and Magni asked Aurora what kind of games she played.

The bonds within the class were growing. When they arrived at the cinema, they debated what to watch. Most of the boys wanted an action or adventure film, while the girls wanted something romantic and emotional. The one who tipped the scales was Amor, who took the girls' side—which wasn't surprising. Besides, for a team whose entire day was filled with action, it was hard to find something "impressive" in that genre. They had either lived through things more dangerous than the action in the movies, or the scenarios were too realistic for them. By majority vote, they settled on a romance. Tickets, popcorn, and drinks were bought. They took their seats in a boy-girl arrangement because the girls thought the boys wouldn't be able to understand the meaning of the important scenes. When the film started, everything went quiet. Everyone's focus was on the screen. The movie was titled: "Lovers of the Misty City."

The scene opened with a massive curtain of fog.{ It was dark. The moon rose in the sky with a silvery grace. It was the hour of love in the Misty City, especially for the youth. Horse-drawn carriages traveled through the streets along the old, mossy stone paths. Not far from there were the Mist Pavilions. Young hearts would slip out of their homes late at night when no one could see them to meet their loved ones. Tonight, a new love would sprout here: the love of Hanna and Liam.

Hanna was the daughter of a middle-class family. Her father was a scribe dealing with government paperwork; her mother was a housewife. Liam wasn't as lucky. His family had been the leaders of a group that previously tried to overthrow the ruler. But when the revolution failed, his family was sentenced to death. He had lived on the streets for years by hiding his identity, suffering greatly and tasting true poverty. He had lost hope in people and was someone who could not express his emotions.

Hanna had gone to the Fountain of Dreams, hoping to find true love. In folk legends, those who made a wish at this fountain would have their dreams come true sooner or later—especially wishes for love. Hanna was making a wish, looking at the coin in her hand. At that moment, she collided with Liam, who had also come to wish for happiness. Liam didn't notice her because he was walking while looking at his own coin. The money in both their hands flew out during the collision, struck each other, and fell into the fountain. Before they could realize what was happening, they tumbled to the ground. Liam fell on his back, and Hanna fell on top of him. Their eyes met. Hanna's blonde hair veiled both their faces. Fireflies began to gather around them. In local belief, this symbolized the binding of souls. Embarrassed, they scrambled to their feet.

Hanna: "Watch where you're going!" "I'm sorry, I didn't see you." "You bumped into me right when I was making a wish. Where is my wish coin?" "Mine is gone too."

They both looked into the fountain at the same time. The fountain had just been cleaned that day; there were only two coins inside.

Liam: "I think I found our coins." "No, no, no!!! My wish! My wish is gone because of you!" "Calm down, how important could your wish have been?" "I don't have to tell you!" "Fine, like I cared anyway!"

They got up and brushed the dust off their clothes. As Hanna was about to leave, she stumbled as if someone were pulling her wrist. When she turned back, she saw Liam speaking.

"What is this?"

She saw a pale, golden thread tied to both their wrists.

"No, this can't be! It wasn't supposed to be like this!" "What can't be?" "You idiot, our fates have been tied because of you!" "How is it my fault? And besides, what's your problem with me!" "If you hadn't interrupted my wish, it wouldn't be like this." "Was your wish that important? What did you wish for?" "Of course I wished for something important! A wish is granted only once in a lifetime. I was going to use my wish to find true love." "Wait, so we are tied together because of love?" "Unfortunately, yes. We cannot go against fate. We have to accept it."

Hanna was very devoted to local beliefs. To her, defying beliefs was considered heresy. Whether good or bad, beliefs came first. On the other hand, beliefs meant nothing to Liam. Living on the streets was one of the biggest factors in his skepticism. }

When the intermission began, the class stepped out of the theater. The part of the movie until the break described the fanning of the flames of Liam's love for Hanna and his attempt to change himself for her. Everyone loved the movie—except for Han. Love matters weren't for him. He didn't want to get attached to anyone. For someone who lost anyone he ever valued, this was perfectly natural.

Urania and Magni saw themselves in the characters. Just as Hanna tied Liam to herself, Urania was slowly tying Magni to her over time. Urania, like Hanna, was the daughter of a middle-class family with no extraordinary events in her life. Magni was like Liam; though his mother was alive, the gods had slaughtered his father. He was the man not even the gods wanted. Everyone found a piece of themselves in the characters: Sol, Luna, Neptune, Hekate, and Han saw themselves in Liam's stubbornness; while Diana, Aurora, and Amor related to Hanna's resignation to events. After the break, they crowded back into the theater. In the rest of the film:

{ They watched Hanna and Liam leave the city to live out their wishes in a small town. Hanna found the love she wished for, and Liam found the happiness he sought. They had a son and a daughter. They lived happily ever after. }

After the movie ended, they sat by the beach. Everyone thanked Urania and Aurora for suggesting such an idea. Today was unforgettable for all of them. After a pleasant conversation, they scattered to their homes. Neptune went straight into the sea; since it was Friday, he would stay with his mother. Sol and Luna got into a Jeep that came to pick them up. Aurora, Diana, Hekate, and Amor went by bus. Han used his Cosmyth to return to school.

Magni asked Urania if she wanted him to walk her home. Urania asked him to if he was available. Just like last time, Magni carried Urania on his back. He dropped her off at her house and said goodbye. Before Magni left, Urania said to him:

"We had so much fun today. Thanks for coming."

Magni's face flushed slightly. He was happy to have spent time with her. When he arrived at school, he took a shower. His exhaustion washed away like the water flowing over him. He was at peace. After drying off, he lay in bed wearing only his shorts. As soon as he put his head on the pillow, he involuntarily imagined a future with Urania just like in the movie. Unbeknownst to him, Urania was experiencing the same thing—a happy life with two children, far from society.

At the end of the day, everyone was happy. Han slept that night for the first time without a nightmare. Sol was the same. Normally, every time he slept, he would see that terrible dream of his mother dying. Tonight, instead of that dream, he had a happy, unexpectedly romantic dream. When he saw who that person was, he bolted upright in bed. It was 4:00 AM. He washed his face and looked in the mirror.

"Get it together, Sol! You can't be with ***, *** is... Ah, what is *** to me? My rival? My enemy? My target? My friend? What can I call ***?"

While these thoughts occupied his mind, there was a knock on his door. Sol opened it wearing only his shorts. It was Luna. She was wearing a silk nightgown.

"What's going on? Are you having a nightmare again?"

"It's not exactly a nightmare..."

"What is it then?"

"I was... having a relationship with *****."

"What? You know that's impossible, right?"

"Yes, yes. I'm aware. Unfortunately, my dreams aren't under my control."

"Anyway, I thought you were seeing that dream again."

"No, for the first time in a long time, I was sleeping peacefully."

"Yeah, sounds very peaceful."

Sol gave a little smile.

"Actually, it was peaceful."

"Ugh, I'm leaving."

"Alright, sleep well."

"You too, pervert..."

Luna smirked just like her brother and walked out of the room.
