Chapter 24: The Battle Between the Two Girls! Cana Withdraws!
Sitting cross-legged on Zeus, Ren somehow produced a pile of snacks and happily watched the battle between Erza and Mirajane below.
Seeing this, Prometheus and Napoleon, floating behind him, had black lines all over their foreheads, unable to comprehend Ren's behavior.
The battle below had entered a fever pitch. Mirajane, who had never gotten along with Erza, unleashed her full power.
Dark magic spheres bombarded Erza relentlessly, blasting craters all over the ground.
Suddenly realizing something, Ren asked Prometheus and the others behind him, "If the battle destroys the area, they can't blame it on me, right?"
Exchanging a glance with Napoleon, Prometheus shook his head.
Seeing their exasperated looks, Ren helplessly turned back around to continue watching the fight.
Suddenly, the corner of Ren's mouth ticked up as he looked not far from where Erza and Mirajane were fighting.
"Hey, I found a little mouse."
Cana poked her small head out of an alley, looking nervously at the battle between Erza and Mirajane ahead.
"Seriously… why do I have to run into monsters like them as opponents!"
Cana looked helpless as she slumped against the wall and sat on the ground.
"Heaven's Wheel: Blumenblatt!"
Swords circled behind Erza, and as a rain of countless blades swept forward, Mirajane beat her wings in the sky, dodging the attacks again and again.
"Is that all you've got? With this, you can't even touch me! Erza!"
Mirajane handled it easily in the air while constantly trash-talking to provoke Erza.
"Hmph!"
Erza snorted, crossing her twin swords in front of her.
"Heaven's Wheel: Trinity Sword!"
Her swords moved with incredible speed, launching a triangular slash straight at Mirajane.
"Requip: Black Wing Armor!"
While Mirajane dodged, a magic circle flashed beneath Erza's feet.
It instantly enveloped her body.
As the Heaven's Wheel Armor faded, black armor appeared on Erza.
Her wings beat once, and Erza shot into the sky, sword in hand, aiming straight for Mirajane's face.
"Don't underestimate me!"
Erza appeared in front of Mirajane in an instant, thrusting her sword forward. A cold sneer flashed across Mirajane's face.
Black magic power gathered in her right palm.
The moment Erza's sword was about to hit, the movement stopped instantly.
Mirajane's right hand was raised high, stopping right in front of Erza.
And Erza held her sword against Mirajane's neck.
In that moment, neither dared to move rashly.
In the alley far away, Cana gritted her teeth, watching Erza and Mirajane fight in the sky.
Finally, she let out a deep sigh.
She stepped out of the alley and ran straight toward the cathedral.
In the sky, both Erza and Mirajane noticed Cana and exchanged a glance before retreating backward in unison.
"I'll let you off this once, you stiff woman!"
Mirajane scoffed, then her wings vibrated, and she dove straight toward Cana running on the ground.
"I didn't say it was over!"
Seeing Mirajane dive, Erza naturally knew what she was planning and gave her no chance.
She charged down directly, chasing after Mirajane's back.
Erza quickly caught up to Mirajane, and the two began tangling again.
Watching the show from above, Ren saw Cana rushing toward the cathedral and couldn't help feeling a little disappointed.
"Sigh."
Ren sighed and patted Zeus, directing him to fly toward the cathedral.
Back at the cathedral entrance, Ren sat on the steps, waiting for Cana to arrive.
Before long, Cana appeared in Ren's sight.
Cana saw Ren from a distance too.
"Cana, you're here?"
Ren leaned one hand on Zeus, frowning as he asked Cana.
"I… I'm no match for them."
Cana gave a bitter smile. Remembering that thrilling battle just now, she felt terrified.
How could she be an opponent for those two monsters?
She would definitely get one-shotted.
A flicker of disappointment passed through Ren's eyes. He looked at Cana calmly. "You know, right, Cana?"
"Only one person can win the S-Class Mage Trial."
"Since you won't fight them, and you've appeared in front of me, then you have no choice but to fight me!"
Ren curled his finger at Cana, signaling her to make the first move.
The expression on Cana's face froze. She gritted her teeth, pulled a small pouch from her pocket, and threw it on the ground.
With a bitter smile, she said, "Ren, I forfeit."
That pouch was exactly the item Ren had assigned Prometheus to guard.
Ren nodded and waved to Prometheus, telling him to retrieve the item.
Prometheus floated over. When he reached Cana, his eyes were full of contempt and disdain.
Prometheus felt more frustration than anything.
How could he have let her take the item from him?
After taking the item and returning to Ren's side, Ren casually opened the pouch.
Inside was a small slip of paper with nothing written on it.
He tossed the paper onto Prometheus, and it instantly burned to ash.
"Then, Cana, you've failed the trial. You can go back to the guild."
His expression completely calm, Ren spoke to the dejected Cana.
"Yeah."
After a long silence, Cana forced a smile, bowed slightly to Ren, then ran all the way out of there.
Shaking his head, Ren hadn't expected Cana to be so afraid of Erza and Mirajane.
Since she was qualified to take the S-Class Mage Trial, Cana's strength definitely wasn't weak.
But what's done is done. There's no medicine for regret.
Ren continued to observe Erza and Mirajane's battle with Observation Haki.
In the short time he'd been gone, their fight had turned into a stalemate.
Both had suffered some injuries, but their fighting spirit only burned brighter.
Wearing the Black Wing Armor, Erza soared through the sky, her sword clashing with Mirajane again and again.
Mirajane, in her Satan Soul form, showed no fear of Erza's attacks.
