Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: Akari and the promise

Akari returned. Inuyasha had defeated the demon with the Bakuryuha, allowing him to regain control of Tessaiga once more. He still looked uncomfortable with her, but after he apologized, everything returned to normality. When Akari came back, Tsubaki, the evil priestess, cursed her. Akari was prepared.

So the curse wasn't as strong as in the original story; instead, Akari took advantage of this opportunity to put her body into a kind of coma so that it could not be used. When the fragments entered her body, Akari started to hear the orders of Tsubaki saying, 'Kill Inuyasha'. Akari mocked her.

"You have to do better than that." If she thought she could control her just with a few fragments and curses. She's stupid. Tsubaki's orders weren't strong enough to make her hesitate, so she ignored her.

Tsubaki clenched her teeth, furious when she heard the thoughts of that stupid girl.

"I told you not to underestimate her". Naraku said.

"Shut up! That stupid girl is not my opponent". Tsubaki tried to increase the evil energy in the fragments, but no matter how much she commanded. That stupid girl simply didn't pay attention.

"You looked ridiculous, Tsubaki." Tsubaki was startled when she heard a voice behind her.

"You, Kikyou!" Kikyou looked at the darkness fragments for a second and chuckled.

"Do you really believe you can control her? You are not a rival to that obstinate woman". Tsubaki clenched her teeth and shouted.

"Why not? I'm not as I was before. I'm going to control her and make her shoot Inuyasha. What do you think, eh?" Kikyou grabbed her hair and threatened her.

"You can do whatever you want with Akari, but if you attack Inuyasha, I will kill you". After saying that, Kikyou left.

Tsubaki walked to the Shikon fragments and said. "You will see, arrogant". Akari listened to the voice of Tsubaki again, thinking it would be the time. So Akari used her spiritual power to expel the fragments of her body and told her.

"Shut up and get out of here". Tsubaki felt a stronger spiritual energy hitting her soul and coughed up a mouthful of blood.

"Damn it". Tsubaki felt pain, but she heard noise outside, and she knew her hiding place had been found, so she bore the pain, grabbed the Shinkon fragments, and escaped.

Akari in the village opened her eyes and thought she was quick to escape.

**

Recently, Akari realized that now the rules of world consciousness were becoming softer. There was no necessity for her to be present at all the events of the plot. If her presence weren't so important, it would occur without her, like a few days ago, while Akari was away. Inuyasha met Onigumo, and then he wished to have enough power to break any barrier.

Akari was interested too. So they all went to the village where Myoga the flea said Inuyasha could find that power. They found a half-demon. Shiori. She could control the barrier. She was amazing, thought Akari.

A barrier able to withstand Inuyasha's attacks was, in fact, amazing. Perhaps, because the barrier was made by a half-demon and a medium, its power was amplified. Akari thought she could try it with her barriers. Maybe it could work.

The moment of try came soon. Inuyasha and Sesshōmaru forced Naraku to escape, breaking his protective barrier. Naraku, probably as in the original story, hid in that sacred territory, so they didn't have any clues.

Akari took this time to train in secret, but one day she found something unexpected. Akari went to training at the same place as usual, but there she found two strong demons fighting. They had snake form. And one of them, the female, was in pretty bad shape.

"What do you do this, brother? I said I would leave the clan with my child. Wasn't it enough?" The female snake shouted with anger and pain, holding her chest covered in blood.

The other snake mocked her and said. "Of course it is not enough, I told you, you and that abomination must die so as not to tarnish the lineage of our clan". Akari, who was hiding, listened to them, thought that maybe the child was half-demon, but her idea was quickly refuted.

"You are so cruel. I have given my entire life to the prosperity of the clan, and now you want to abandon me just because my kid was weaker than the others; he isn't even a half-demon. Why must he die?" The female snake said.

"The weak are not allowed in the clan, you knew it, you should have thought of it when you fell in love with that puny demon. He has damaged the lineage of our clan. It is because we only marry demons of our same species. If you had accepted the engagement of the clan, this wouldn't have happened". Akari heard the whole story and thought it was foolish. Not only was it insane to murder your relatives for that stupid reason, but it was also useless to try to preserve the lineage.

No matter the point of view, humans or demons, it was impossible to keep a pure lineage. It could only happen if you were willing to be wiped out. It was probably what happened in this world. Because Akari, apart from the demon that had the Shikon fragments and a few others that are in charge of things that are related to the operation of the world. She hadn't seen demons in her time.

Akari had two theories about this. First, the demons, as the snake man, refused to share their lineage, so eventually they were wiped out. Second, the demons had children with humans, and the lineage of demons faded away with the humans. At that point, there was no difference between them.

Akari came out of her thoughts and saw the female snake on the ground with a small black egg protected behind her. Akari thought it was cute. If only it didn't have demonic energy.

At that moment, the snake man said. "Don't worry, sister, I'll send it with you soon". Akari clicked her tongue, thinking he was hypocritical.

But at that second, the snake suddenly turned around and looked in her direction with its vertical pupils. Akari was startled. She was discovered.

Effectively, the snake man attacked the place where she was hiding. Akari blamed herself; she was careless. She was so immersed in her thoughts that she neglected the spiritual barrier that was protecting her for a moment.

"A human, you are so brave to hide from me. Now die". Akari rolled her eyes.

"That remains to be seen." Akari drew her sword and swung it. Thanks to her training, she could feel and see the threads that connected the souls easily. So she cut them before the snake man could react.

He still had that gaze of incredulity when he died. Well, if it wasn't so stupid to underestimate her for being human, he wouldn't have died so easily. Because he was really strong, even Inuyasha would have had trouble against him.

The female snake was surprised, but she was more scared; so Akari sheathed her sword and was about to leave. When she heard.

"Wait!" Akari looked at her and asked.

"What do you want?" The female snake hesitated for a second, but when she saw her wounds, she said.

"Can you take my children far away?" She clenched her teeth and lowered her head, saying. "Pleased, I beg you".

Akari raised a brow; she was surprised. She knew how arrogant the full demons are; she had to be very desperate to beg a human.

"Why should I do that? I don't owe you anything; I just saved your life." The snake woman furrowed her brow.

"I know, I'm asking. I don't mean you take care of him forever, but you can leave him in a place where he wouldn't be hurt by other demons and humans, please. If you want, you could leave him closer from here. I have heard dangerous monsters and demons don't come closer to this place because there was someone who was hunting them." Akari was embarrassed when she heard the last part. That person, probably, was her. She didn't think the rumours spread so fast, so she would be careful from now on. If the rumours drew the attention of Inuyasha and the others, she would be dead. She had to hurry to create a permanent barrier to this place.

The snake woman saw her silence and got nervous. She quickly said. "Pleased, I beg you, I'm dying. I'm not going to survive. It's okay for me, but my kid is innocent. I know I have nothing to give you. But after I die, you can use my body as you want, you can make armour or weapons. Anything". Akari continued in silence for a minute, and in the end, she couldn't resist the pleading gaze of that female snake. She was thinking as a mother even in her last moments. It wouldn't be a lie, if Akari said she wasn't moved.

Akari sighed and said. "Okay". The female snake smiled happily and quickly thanked her.

But Akari warned her. "But I will only leave him in a safe place, and then I won't care about him, understood?"

"Yes, that's enough". The snake woman seemed relieved, and when her strength returned for a few seconds, she touched the egg and said.

"I love you, my child. Be strong, your mom will always be with you." Akari saw how she closed her eyes and fell to the ground without breath.

Akari moved closer to them and said. "I don't know what you did in your life, but for this last behaviour, I wish a happy life for you in the next life." She used her spiritual power to burn her body to ashes. And took the egg.
