Chapter 23 - Chapter 23: Inevitable

Before Akari fainted, she gave Miroku, Sango, and Kirara some of her spiritual powers to protect their lives. In fact, she didn't want to scare Inuyasha or put the lives of her friends in danger. But she knew that in this case, there wasn't another option. It would be very important to the development of Inuyasha, so she couldn't change it. She felt a little guilty, so when she saw Inuyasha crying when they woke up, Akari tried to comfort him and didn't allow Koga to say anything to him. However, thanks to that, Koga made her an unexpected offer.

"Akari, why don't you come with me?" Akari was confused and asked.

"What?" Koga said.

"They are your friends, but I am too. I don't see the problem with you traveling with me as you do with them." Akari was speechless; she didn't have a way to refute him. Actually, if it weren't for world consciousness, she would consider it.

"Mmm, but I want to be with them". Koga nodded and didn't persist.

Koga told them about Jakotsu and the other warrior he had killed, then he left. After they rested, Akari purified the poison in Sango, Miroku, and Kirara's bodies. At that time, they found Suikotsu and the other warriors. Renkotsu attacked them, and Ginkotsu attacked Kikyou, who was with Suikotsu.

Kikyou couldn't move because the souls were leaving her body, so Akari said.

"Go for her, we'll take care of them". Inuyasha hesitated, but he finally said.

"Okay". Akari picked up her bow and shot an arrow at Renkotsu.

He clenched his teeth and said.

"Do you believe you can win?" Akari chuckled and didn't answer.

Miroku took advantage of the moment to run toward Kikyou and save her because Inuyasha was being delayed by Suikotsu, who remembered who he really was. However, as Suikotsu suffered from multiple personality disorder, the warriors didn't stay much longer and left.

Akari walked toward Inuyasha and Kikyou, and Inuyasha asked.

"The soul collectors can't come closer. Why?"

"That's because of the spiritual barrier of Mount Hakurei, you have to take her far from here, or all her souls are going to be expelled from her body." Inuyasha quickly took her in his arms and ran far away.

Soon, she woke up. "Inuyasha..."

"Kikyou..." Inuyasha seemed to say something, but maybe because they were still there, he didn't say more.

"Suikotsu, what happened to him..." Inuyasha said.

"He left with the other warriors." Kikyou closed her eyes and said.

"Akari, could you see it? The fragment of Suikotsu". Akari nodded.

"Yeah, the pure light becomes polluted". Kikyou sighed and said.

"Mount Hakurei is extremely pure, that isn't normal". Inuyasha asked.

"What are you going to do, Kikyou?" Akari looked at the children who were worried by her and said.

"I will stay with these kids". Akari saw her, and finally she couldn't resist saying.

"You should leave". Inuyasha and Kikyou looked confused, and Akari felt a pain in her heart that she ignored.

"If you remain here, you won't survive".

"Akari!" Inuyasha couldn't help but yell. Akari didn't look at him; it wasn't her suddenly feeling compassionate about Kikyou, she still didn't like her. But if she could, Akari didn't want her to die, for many reasons.

Kikyou seemed surprised, but she said.

"I know, but I can't leave these children alone". Akari sighed. Well, she tried.

The next day, Akari did nothing that could worsen the vigilance of the world consciousness. She followed the original story as best as she could until Inuyasha went to Mount Hakurei. When he left, Akari thought about what she should do. The alleged death of Kikyou couldn't change; however, shouldn't she do something? She wasn't sure how to stay quiet in front of Inuyasha. There wasn't any other option; she should guide him without saying anything directly.

And there was only one way to do that. When the barrier of Mount Hakurei fell and she got inside, Akari allowed the poison to melt her clothes. Then, when Naraku was escaping, and Koga fell, Akari started. Under her camouflage uniform, she wore the clothes that Kikyou used.

"What? Why are you wearing that?" Inuyasha asked when both were going after Koga.

"My clothes were damaged by the poison". Akari answered. But Inuyasha seemed distracted, and Akari asked.

"What happened?"

"Nothing, it's just that when I saw you, I felt a bad feeling". Inuyasha realized his words were offensive and tried to explain.

"No, I mean nothing, it's just..." Akari interrupted him and said.

"If you have a bad feeling about Kikyou, you should go; if you continue here, you will waste a lot of time until we reach Koga". Inuyasha hesitated, but Akari just said.

"You should do what you think is more important, so you won't regret". After that, Akari continued going down the hill and was about to collapse; she didn't have much time. Also, she had to do as much as possible for Inuyasha and Kikyou; it depended on them, now.

Inuyasha wavered, but finally, his worry about Kikyou was the strongest, and he murmured.

"I'm sorry..." Then, he quickly left Mount Hakurei.

On the other hand, Akari found Koga and woke him up, thanks to his speed. They managed to get out before the hill collapsed.

Akari sighed in relief when she was outside. Sango and Miroku moved closer to her and asked.

"Akari, are you okay? What happened? Why did Inuyasha leave first?" Akari gestured for both of them to stop and said.

"Kikyou is in danger, You go after him". Sango and Miroku quickly left while she changed her clothes. Then, Akari, with Koga, followed them, but when Akari saw Inuyasha's face noticed that nothing had changed. He couldn't prevent Kikyou from dying.
