X-Men Base

At the last high-level meeting of the Central Intelligence Agency, Congressman Francis overruled the opposition and approved Agent Moira's proposal to use mutants to fight mutants. As a result, he naturally became the highest authority overseeing the mutant base.

However, despite holding that title, he was anything but in control.

When it came to recruiting mutants, Professor Charles Xavier did not consult him at all.

What infuriated Francis even more was that Charles possessed a terrifying ability—the power to manipulate minds—and Francis had no way to resist it. Whenever they disagreed, Charles would simply alter his thoughts, forcing him to comply.

"A terrifying power… a terrifying mutation. Are mutants really the future of humanity?" Francis sighed helplessly in his office. "Genetic mutation? What kind of mutation could produce abilities like this?"

Francis was the only senior official in the CIA who did not harbor deep prejudice against mutants. Yet after witnessing their overwhelming power again and again, even he could not avoid falling into fear.

In recent days, he had been plagued by nightmares. In his dreams, grotesque and monstrous mutants surrounded him, while he himself was reduced to an animal locked inside a zoo.

"Even after understanding mutants better, I'm still terrified of them," Francis murmured. "Those senior council members who already fear mutants must be even more uneasy now."

He gave a bitter smile. If he, someone relatively open-minded, felt this way, then the fear among the rest of the council must be far worse.

Bang!

Just as Francis sank deeper into confusion and fear, the office door was kicked open.

A man built like an iron tower strode inside, shocking Francis.

"Who are you? How did you get in here?" Francis demanded.

The burly man stepped aside, allowing a handsome young Asian man to enter. Francis frowned.

Though he was not a racist, he was still surprised that this young Asian man appeared to be the leader of the group.

"Hm? Raven? Darwin?" As Francis prepared to continue questioning them, he recognized two familiar faces—Raven and Darwin of the X-Men—leaving him even more confused.

The intruders were Lancelot, Victor the Sabretooth, Mystique (Raven), and Darwin.

"Kid, look at me," Lancelot said coldly, his voice distant and commanding.

Unlike his usual gentle demeanor around mutants, Lancelot now radiated the presence of a king. Authority filled his gaze.

"Lancelot!" Raven and Darwin were stunned. This was the first time they had seen him like this.

Francis instinctively turned toward Lancelot—and met a pair of ruby-red eyes.

Within those mesmerizing eyes, a fiery crimson bird soared.

"Obey my command," Lancelot said flatly.

"Yes, my lord." Francis's eyes instantly turned wild. He bowed respectfully.

"Retrieve all information related to mutants," Lancelot ordered.

A flash of red light crossed Francis's vision. He quickly opened the safe and pulled out a file.

"My lord, what is this?" Victor asked curiously, glancing at the documents in Lancelot's hands.

"Our comrades," Lancelot replied with a faint, meaningful smile.

This visit to the X-Men base had two purposes: to meet the young X-Men—and to obtain a specific file.

The Mutant Information Archive.

This file contained every mutant detected by Professor X using Cerebro. Each discovery was meticulously recorded, including mutation abilities.

Lancelot's name was among them.

As he read the description of his own abilities, he couldn't help but feel a strange sense of emotion.

Name: Lancelot

Ethnicity: Asian

Background: Orphaned, wandered Lower Manhattan for three years

Classification: Mutant

Ability: Red Eyes—possesses a pair of beautiful ruby-colored eyes; no other abnormalities detected

Status: Cleared

Seeing the large checkmark at the end, Lancelot was momentarily stunned. If he hadn't crossed timelines and awakened the god-level disciple lottery system, this record would have defined his entire existence.

He turned the page—and his eyes lit up. At the same time, Victor's massive body trembled.

Name: James Logan

Nationality: Canadian

Date of Birth: Unknown

Personality: Violent

Form: Wolf-like mutant

Abilities: Lone Wolf; can extend bone claws from his body

Notes: Attempted recruitment of others; failed

"Logan!" Victor stared at the photo. His emotions surged uncontrollably. Razor-sharp claws extended from his hands as killing intent flooded his voice.

"Victor," Lancelot said calmly.

Hearing his name, Victor slowly regained control.

"My apologies, my lord," Victor said with a bitter smile and a bow. "Seeing my mutant brother stirred my emotions." His claws slowly retracted.

Lancelot glanced at him briefly, then continued reading.

Name: Matthew Harlan

Classification: Mutant

Ability: Toad

Effects: Deformed head; elongated tongue

Psychological Profile: Inferiority complex

Background: Abandoned by family after mutation; harbors deep hatred toward humans

From the image, Lancelot immediately recognized him—the Toad from Days of Future Past. His grotesquely enlarged head and amphibian eyes made him stand out painfully. Even he found his own appearance unbearable. His family had cast him aside.

"Charles hasn't yet become the Professor X of the future," Lancelot murmured, shaking his head. Because of his appearance, this mutant had been abandoned by Charles.

File after file showed images of severely deformed mutants, most of whom lived tragic lives.

Still, Lancelot also recognized familiar faces—future members of William Stryker's mutant task force:

Agent Zero (David North), John Wraith, Bradley (who could control electronic devices telekinetically), Silver Fox (Kayla, Wolverine's future lover), and Gambit (Remy LeBeau).

Unfortunately, they were scattered across different countries, far from the X-Men base. Professor X and Magneto had only recorded their information, never attempting recruitment.

That gave Lancelot an opportunity.

"Let's go. We have everything we need," Lancelot said, closing the file.

He left the X-Men base with Victor, Raven, and Darwin.
