"You can't drop me out like that ...I ...put all ".
"I am sorry, Andria, but the director says your character isn't needed anymore", said her boss.
She sighed, after putting herself in the role for a month now, they were pushing her out. It was the third time they were doing it to her.
"Can't I talk to him and maybe get another role anyway role will do .."
Her boss pointed at the door.
"I will let you know when another chance presents itself ...but for now you can head home "
Quietly, she left the company and headed to her part-time job.
"Hi Veronica, how is Mom doing ?" She called her sister.
"Taking a nap, her medication makes her drowsy "
"Alright, I will be there in three hours. Take care " she said.
"I will, take care of yourself too, sister " Veronica hung up.
It was two hours later when she got a break that she checked her phone again.
It had missed calls from her sister so she called back.
"Vero did something happen?" She asked the moment it was picked up.
"Are you a guardian of Miss Avertt ?" the unfamiliar voice asked.
"Yes, she is my sister and who is this ?"
"I called you earlier to let you know about her accident. She has been admitted to this hospital and is in critical condition "
"What ....how....where ...." She stammered.
"If you could please come to Blackwood Hospital, I will explain the rest.
She hung and rushed out of the break room.
"Andria, where do you think you're going?" yelled the manager, watching her run off.
Grabbing a taxi she begged him to drive her to the hospital as her heart pounded in her ears.
What had happened to her sister ?".
"I...I was told to come here by..." She breathed trying to catch her breath and also speak.
A nurse came to her, "Are you Miss Avertt's guardian?" She asked.
Andria nodded holding back her tears and trembling hands.
"This way, please ",, sheled her away.
"Can I know what happened to her ?". she asked.
"She was brought in after suffering a car accident; it was a hit and run ", said the nurse.
Andria stopped realising they were heading in the opposite direction to the wards
"Where are we going ?" She asked.
"To see her body, you need to confirm her Identity " said the nurse.
"Huh...what ...but I was told she was admitted and in critical condition ". She held back her tears.
The nurse blinked, took a death breath, and answered.
"The patient died a few minutes after being brought in; the doctors couldn't save her.
Andria covered her mouth.
"There might be a mistake, it can't be her"
The nurse opened the door and entered. The doctor was already there; he quietly pulled away the cloth covering the body's face, and Andria stumbled back.
It was her, her sister laying there lifeless.
She turned around and ran off.
Her eyes filled with tears, blinding her sight, she collapsed in the hallway, her legs giving way.
Her chest felt suffocated as she found herself not able to breathe, gasping for air, she cried out but got too weak, dropping to the floor.
"Breath, look at me "
It was a calm deep voice, a warm hand took hers as she felt herself being pulled up into a gentle grip.
Her tears fell as their eyes met, grey piercing eyes stared back at her.
"That's it, follow my lead, breathe in then out ", his voice softly said.
She followed his lead and her breathing stabilised.
"Come on, let's get you off the floor", he murmured, taking her in his arms.
She felt her body move up in the air, her body was limp, and slowly her eyes closed.
When she opened them again, Andria was lying in a hospital bed.
"What happened to me " she breathed.
"You're awake ", Andria turned to her side to see her mother.
"Mother ...what are you doing here ?" Sitting up she took her mother's hands.
"You didn't expect me to stay home after finding out what happened " .
She remembered...the accident and her sister.
"Veronica, I ...I " her tears stung.
"Shh, it's alright ", her mother said, hugging her.
Andria burst into tears, "It's all my fault I shouldnot have left you both alone "
Her mother held her as her tears silently fell.
