Derek looked at Sean with a deep gaze. He had realized that the person standing before him was not someone like Scott, who didn't know how to fight. Derek moved and attacked with his claws. Just as Sean was about to dodge again, Derek spun and threw a kick. Sean blocked the kick with his arm, but Derek's strength was greater than his, and he was sent sliding backward, landing on both feet. The imprint of his shoes was left on the wooden hinge.
Sean looked at his aching arm."So you improve over time, huh… The longer you're a werewolf, the more your body develops?" he said, looking at Derek.
As Derek canceled his transformation, he replied,"Yes. Of course, there are a few other factors that determine it. For example, the Alpha. The stronger the Alpha's pack is, the stronger you become. It's not just about time. Also, when you become an Alpha, your werewolf abilities become faster and sharper."
Derek and Sean stared at each other for a moment. Finally, Sean sighed."I'll help you with the Alpha. No matter how much I deny it, since he's the one who bit me, he'll keep growing stronger as long as I don't kill him. And I will never accept someone who commits crimes for no reason. Who knows… maybe I can even take the Alpha spark from him."
As Sean said his last words, there was a dark expression on his face.
When Derek saw that dark look, even he flinched. This was definitely someone with the potential to become the most dangerous and powerful werewolf to ever be in a pack. Derek had already made up his mind to persuade Sean and invite him into his pack once he obtained the Alpha spark. But having someone whose hunger for power was this extreme in his pack would also put him in danger. He would have to stay on edge at all times around him. Because he understood that Sean could be a friend one moment and a crushing enemy the next.
At that moment, Sean looked at Scott. Scott had already transformed. Sean said in surprise,"Since when can you control it?"
As Scott looked at his hands and suddenly realized what was happening, his claws retracted. Sean sighed."So maybe you still can't control it."
Then he looked back at Derek."Convincing Scott is up to you. You'll get my help. But just because Scott and I are like brothers doesn't mean you'll get his help as well. For now, see you later, Derek Hale… Scott, you're coming with me."
As Sean left the house, Scott followed him from behind.
Derek watched the two of them leave through the door and clenched his fist. When he had punched Sean earlier, the bone in his foot had been injured. That meant Sean's strength was already approaching his own.'Is he really a newly turned werewolf?!' he thought.
When Sean and Scott arrived home, Stiles was waiting for them in the living area. Melissa was sitting right across the table.
Sean looked at his mother, then at Stiles."Mom, you didn't sleep. And you too, Stiles. Or do we have a guest? One we didn't know about?"
Melissa said angrily,"Oh yes, we do have a guest. A guest who just got out of a hospital bed. And strangely enough, even though this guest just got out of a hospital bed, he's been wandering around late at night. While there's a curfew?!"
Sean understood the situation. He quickly went to his mother and rubbed her shoulders."Calm down, Mom. I'm fine. You know, it was just extreme stress from school."
Stiles nodded."Yes, Mrs. McCall. Sean barely even left the library these days. While Scott and I were talking about lacrosse during breaks, he was studying in the library," he said, lying.
Melissa sighed."You kids… go to sleep early," she said, and didn't push the subject further.
The three of them went to Scott's room. When Scott entered, he sat on his bed. Stiles sat on the chair. Sean entered last and closed the door.
"What were you thinking, Scott? Acting on your own? What if the Alpha really was Derek, and when he realized you wouldn't join his pack, he killed you?! What am I supposed to tell my mom? That he went to fight an Alpha alone and died?" Sean said.
Scott snapped back angrily from being scolded."And what about you? You made a deal with Derek to kill the Alpha. Aren't you in the same situation?"
Sean's eyes glowed golden."Yes. I made a deal with him. But in any situation, I'll sacrifice him. And if we don't attack, the Alpha will attack us. Because no one wants a disobedient member in their pack."
After he finished speaking, his eyes returned to normal.
While Sean's eyes were glowing golden, Stiles thought to himself:'Sean, you really pass judgment, man. But what are we going to do during the upcoming full moon? If Scott loses control again, he won't be able to stop him. Sean has a naturally dominant personality. He was always like that as a kid. Sean's big-brother role was always at the forefront. Whenever Scott was thinking about something, he would always secretly glance at Sean, as if seeking approval. But now… things suddenly changed. What's going to happen from now on? I never want Sean to get angry. Because when he does, he becomes terrifying.'
As Sean headed toward the door, he said his final words:"Use your head, Scott. You're not alone in this family. We're all here, and we're worried about you."
He left the room and went to his own.
Leaving Scott and Stiles alone in the room, Stiles spoke to break the silence."Sean really isn't the same as before, is he? When we mess up, the tone he uses to scold us is always the same. Before things get serious, his warnings are always terrifying."
Scott replied,"Yeah. Sean was always like that. And I'm sure the reason he made a deal with Derek was for my own good."
Stiles smiled."I think so too. Even if I don't know much about it, or wasn't there, Sean always stepped into conflicts before we did."
Then he turned his head toward the window, as if remembering something."Do you remember, Scott? The muggers who cornered us in the park. We couldn't do anything. And when Sean came back from the market, he threw everything he bought at them and charged right in… even if we couldn't do anything, he took them all down."
Scott corrected him."He didn't just take them down. He put them in the hospital. And he got grounded by my mom for a month. If Sheriff Noah hadn't been there, things could've gotten much more complicated."
Stiles sighed."Scott, Sean always put himself in danger for us. And whenever we faced danger, Sean was always there."
Scott stared out the window absentmindedly. Stiles didn't speak again and lay down on the floor mattress, closing his eyes.
Beacon Hills woke up to a quiet and peaceful day. Birds chirped, and roosters crowed. Sean, Stiles, and Scott got up, got dressed, and stopped by Stiles's house. After Stiles grabbed everything he needed for school, they got back in the car and headed to school.
Scott took his bike from the back of the car and placed it in the parking area. He and Allison had planned to study together after school that day.
The first school bell rang, and the trio went in and out of classes like ordinary students, until the final bell rang.
As everyone left the school, Stiles and Sean drove away in the car, while Scott went with Allison to her house.
While Stiles was driving, Derek suddenly appeared in front of them. He was in very bad shape. Sean quickly got out of the car and caught Derek as he was about to collapse."What happened to you?"
Scott arrived at that moment. As Stiles watched from a distance, Derek spoke."I was shot."
Scott asked in shock,"Why aren't you healing?"
Derek replied,"It was a different kind of bullet. I can't heal."
At that moment, Sean noticed Derek's eyes flickering between blue and their original color. He quickly covered his eyes with his hand."It looks like you can't control your transformation because of the bullet. Scott, is the vet closed today?"
Scott nodded."Yes. Mr. Deaton said he had something to do today."
Sean looked at Stiles."I'll carry him to the car. Let's go to the vet together. If there's a bullet still inside his body, that might be what's affecting him."
Sean lifted Derek onto his back and placed him in the back seat of the car, then quickly got into the front seat."Drive, Stiles."
Scott was left behind, watching the car with worried eyes. A moment later, a message came through. It was from Sean.
"Scott. The bullet most likely belongs to the Argent family. Find that bullet. Derek said he can heal if you find it."
Time passed like water, and the sound of Stiles's car echoed in front of the veterinary clinic.
Sean lifted Derek onto his back again and opened the door with the spare key. He laid Derek down on the table.
Sean looked at the mark on Derek's arm and tightly tied off the upper part of his arm near the shoulder to prevent it from reaching his heart."Now tell me, Derek. Who shot you? Did you see them clearly?"
Derek nodded."Yes. Kate Argent. Chris Argent's sister. A complete psychopath. She never follows the rules."
Sean said,"Hold on, Derek. Scott should be here in a few hours. In the meantime Stiles, turn your head."
As Stiles turned away, Sean used the scalpel in his hand to remove the ash fragments lodged in Derek's wound. Then he looked at the ash that angered and restrained him."This is wolfsbane," he said.
