Darkness moves as it carries the light like a weapon. The darkness itself doesn't have a body or a shape. However, it has a will to hunt and kill.
The blade that can kill anything and everything. The strength of it is far more superior than the darkness itself. It isn't a weapon that the darkness can ever hope to wield. But it can take advantage of it to hunt for itself.
So it does. The light can reveal the creatures that tries taking advantage of the dark that doesn't belong to the them. As soon as there cover is erased. The Blade cuts them apart into two.
The shadows revolves as the source of light goes around the obstacle that blocked the light. With this Steel would be in the light.
However, as the light reaches the hiding place of Steel. He is nowhere to be found. Darkness stares at the obstacle with a little shock.
Come to think of it. Where did this obstacle come from?
Steel sighs.
'We meet again, old friend…'
It is the armored crab. His first prey that he tried to kill. But failed cause it was way out of his league. Or It could be a different Armored crab like devil spawn. Who cares, it is just a corpse that end up saving him.
He had crawled inside of it at the last second. It is somewhat empty from the inside. It just smells really bad cause of the decaying flesh.
But what is it doing here?
If Steel has to guess. This Armored crab was a prey of the darkness or the blade itself. But either, the blade failed to kill the Armored crab cause of its hard shell. Then it died of blood loss or from his wounds.
Or the Armored crab died while running away from the blade in the day. As there are many holes on its shell. Blade just didn't bothered carrying it away as it is probably too heavy.
That could be the reason why the darkness wasn't aware of it being here.
Steel smiles cause of his good luck. Not an incredible luck though cause the armored crab didn't have the soul darkness inside for it. So no soul weapon for him again.
But right now, there are bigger problems for him to deal.
The darkness is still out there with that source of light. Changing the direction of light so it can fall inside on top of Steel.
Steel grinds his teeth out of frustration.
He wants to kill that Devil that is hiding itself inside the darkness. If that devil can use Blade to its advantage than why couldn't he as well?
He smiles viciously as he looks at the armor of the Devil crab.
Steel didn't just called the Armored crab with that name for no reason. The devil was like a creature that wore actual armor made out of metal. And now, that he is inside of one of these creature. He can feel it.
From the outside, the armor is non lustrous. But from the inside, it is somewhat reflective. If he can remove the flesh of the devil from the inner part of it. Then he can use the Darkness's light against it.
So he get to this little project of his. He doesn't really have much time. The Darkness is trying everything to make the blade see him. Not to mention, if he took long then he has to spend the entire day inside of a corpse.
That would be an unpleasant experience. Only because he doesn't have a bed to sleep in and the smell of decaying flesh.
Steel carefully craves the flesh form the inner side of the armor with his survival knife that he brought from the human camp. Who needs a knife that were made of that useless devil slug.
This new survival knife is much better. It even have a little folding action. How neat.
He doesn't really have to remove the whole flesh. Only some of it, so it can reflect enough light to reveal that creature in the darkness.
It isn't an easy process though. It is time consuming and he has to be careful to not make much noise. Every time he accidently makes some noise cause of his knife slipping and scratching the surface of the armor. His soul dies a little.
Luckily, the blade isn't that sensitive. Or maybe he can't hear at all and he is worried for nothing. But he isn't going to risk it.
It only took him about half an hour to finish revealing a little of the armor.
'it is enough.'
The darkness is still out there with its light. Trying everything to reveal Steel to the blade.
Too bad, the darkness doesn't know that it is dealing with someone who has mastered hide and seek. Not that he even knows how to play that game. Why would someone wanna hunt someone for fun? He doesn't wanna be hunted. That sounds terrifying.
As he is done with all the work.
Steel takes a deep breathe and pushes the armor shell outside. It falls few feet away from the corpse of the dead devil. Steel only get deeper inside the Dead devil's rotting flesh.
The flesh is gross but that is the only way that he can keep himself safe. The dead devil is still strong enough to hold few more blows of the blade.
With that the wild slashes of the blade fall on top of him, on top of the dead armored crab.
He counted up to consecutive slashes on the dead devil and three on the armor plate he through. The dead armored crab survived the deadly attacks. And so, Steel survived as well.
It still give some bruises to him though. The decaying flesh wasn't as cushioning as he thought. It was actually quite hard.
He waited for something else to happen too. But there was only silence.
Steel waited for five minutes and then ten minutes. However, he heard nothing at all.
'what..?'
He crawled out of the dead devil, covered in disgusting filth. He didn't mind.
Looking at his surroundings, he found nothing that looked out of the ordinary. He even asked River about it. But even she saw nothing.
The carved armored plate he threw had few dents on it. But the reflected side faced the sky so it should've revealed the creature that hide in the darkness.
It meant one thing.
'it ran away…'
Steel felt kind of disappointed. He really wanted that thing to be dead. But he couldn't help but smile.
He really did survived against something that was quite cunning and knows how to use its surroundings. It used the blade itself as its own weapon. That itself gave Steel shivers.
Even a devil can find an outside medium to make itself stronger. It is quite fascinating to think about.
Devil spawns are also like demons. As they can't grow stronger. But this devil literally did something that made it somewhat of an exception.
Steel doesn't wanna admit it. But he needs to learn from that devil and find his own strength from the outside.
Steel sighs mentally and starts running from the Blade's domain.
The rest of Steel's escape didn't get interrupted. Making it possible for him to escape before the morning arrives.
