[A human grows into a multiple of itself as it is cut by the blade. Another human is highly wounded but no blood escape its body. This human is acting like a shield. The blade slashes never stops.]
[Four humans are guarded by three other humans. Four guarded humans are showing abilities to strengthen their human companions. The three other human have grown inhumane features to fight the blade.]
[Everything is reflected in the blade's mirror like surface. It attacks each human with an individual edge of the blade.]
Steel is trying to make sense of River's words and the sounds of the battle. It is a bit overwhelming.
Steel has understood that humans are using their soul abilities. Some are understandable like growing huge claws or turning into a totally different creatures.
It is like a mini transformation of sort. According to River, one of the human has grown wings like a bird. It didn't made the human able to fly but the wings themselves are razor sharp.
Other transformation was like a person becoming like rubber. Stretchy arms and legs. Too bad, that guy isn't a great match against the devil blade.
Other two human's transformation were not explained by River. Either she didn't know what those transformation were or she didn't felt like they're necessary to be said.
There is also that guy she said who could basically double himself after being cut into two. That has to be a pretty strong ability. She didn't specify if the multiplied body are weaker than the original. So he doesn't know how useful it could be.
There has to be some limitations.
The Human that is being a meat shield for the whole group. Steel just feel bad for the guy. Perhaps, the human doesn't feel any pain of his wounds or something.
Steel even come to know some of the name of these people. Coral, Barry, Vol, Raven, Sign of sun.
Sign of sun was definitely a Soul name. But it is hard to guess who's name it was form just sounds and River's narration.
Steel focuses on the words and sounds. Making sure not to miss any detail of the fight.
"Raven, what's the info…"
A female voice replies.
"it is not a devil spawn….I don't know what it is."
Steel hears a curse from the same voice.
[The defend is getting weaker. Frightened face of human are reflected on the blade. The blade is prioritizing the supports.]
Steel hears few screams and shouts of humans.
The sounds of the mirror blade cutting the air and then through the flesh has also became distinct enough for him to recognize.
Steel shivers.
Steel wasn't sure why can't they just run? He isn't sure if it is just not possible or they're up something.
The flesh is being cut into two of humans.
[Two humans are caught by the blade. The multiplying human's fifth copy are being destroyed. Fifth copy is destroyed. Fourth copy is destroyed. Third copy is destroyed. The transformed humans are weaken through sheer brute force of the blade.]
Steel grimaced.
The devil blade is far more dangerous than his wildest imagination. Has nobody is able to weaken the blade? or find a weak spot in that blade? And it is not a Devil spawn at all. According to that human name Raven. She much have a ability to see the strength of creatures or something related to that.
So is it really a soul weapon that is being used by a Devil spawn form somewhere else? If so, how far is that devil spawn? How is it able to battle from without even seeing the enemy.
Or maybe it is not a devil spawn at all. Could it be some other creature? Like an Elf, a demon, another human, some hybrid.
Steel is having a bad feeling that is entirely different.
As the time passes, the human numbers grow smaller. River describes the fight with as much details as she can manage.
According to her, the blade has surrounded them form all sides. The ribbon like blade is like a tornado. Blocking all means of escape for the humans. From the sounds of it, it isn't a battle anymore. It is just a one side slaughter.
Humans are trying everything they can to survive.
River have confirmed deaths of multiplying human, three humans who guarded the supports and one of the supporting human. Other's are wounded or have severed limbs.
The situation is dire. Steel can't even imagine what were these humans were thinking. Are they praying for rescue? Or making a plan to make a swift retreat from the Blade.
In this battle, Steel been thing about one thing. How is the Wielder of the Mirror blade can observe the battle field.
Steel have a few guesses.
It could be that the wielder can see through the reflection of the blade. It did make sense. The blade always kept the flat side of it towards the humans. Then attack with the other part of it. It is endless so it can do it without losing any of its edge.
That also made sense for why the blade it is so reflective.
If that is the case then, he can move at night. Without light, there won't be any reflection making the blade blind.
Other guess of Steel is that it can sense through the sounds. Like the vibrations in the air.
That would be the worst case scenario for Steel.
But if it can, it probably isn't that sharp. If it could sense every vibration, then Steel be dead by now cause of him moving inside the tent or just through his breathing.
Next guess is that, the creature of this blade is just using its own ability to see through it.
There is nothing that is backing that guess. But he also doesn't know what is that creature.
Steel hasn't gotten much information about the blade form this battle. Now it is coming to an end with the crushing defeat of the humans. It is truly disappointing. They're not like the human he saw in the Death zone. That one was made of something else.
Steel had tried to hear all the conversations between the humans. But it is difficult as they are so far away. Making him miss few of the details in the sounds of clashing metal.
Times like this he wishes that he was as better with his senses as River.
Steel knows that the end is close. Soon everyone will be dead. He doesn't really feel much sympathy for them. Everyone dies in the end. Maybe his turn will be coming after them. who can tell?
Steel wonders about his own future and then hears one last conversation between humans.
"Sir. I...…"
Her voice was tired. Much more tired than before. River can explained that one of the human has collapsed and vomited a lot of blood.
Are there some private conversation that happened through some Tech? communication tech doesn't work cause of the nature of the worlds can devil spawns. So If they're talking with someone else, they it must be cause of an soul ability.
The man listens to her. According to River, his condition was worst than anyone else. His left arm is missing, body is covered in slashes of the blade, one of its eye is damaged but no blood came out of it.
The man replies with indifference.
"what did you find…"
The women replied. Her voice shaking.
"Something else is using this…strange thing… that thing… isn't a devil spawn…not a full devil"
She fell quiet for few seconds. Steel held his breathe in suspense at what is that thing.
Then she said.
"It is a Demonoid-"
[Waves of slashes fell on top of the humans. The blade remain loaming on top of the flesh and bones. The blade carries the flesh. The blade has grown still. Floating in the hopes of finding a sign of life.]
It is silent again. The whole battle took only an hour or so. But it felt like an eternity has passed.
Steel wasn't the one fighting but he was tired and in a somber mood.
He sighs and sits down thinking about all that happened.
