In that moment, he realised where he was, who he was with and exactly how much close he was to being caught for being two and a half hours late.
He pulled his wrist to his nose, in a fake confirmation. "I don't think so," he whispered, trying to draw back a little before Adrian would sniff further.
"Maybe it's the library air," Ryan added, his voice thin and unconvincing even to his own ear as he tried laughing it off.
But Adrian wasn't laughing neither was he saying anything but the sheer intensity in his stared made Ryan feel like Adrian could see right through to the lie.
Yet to his utter amazement, as though the earlier conversation had been nothing but a passing breeze, Adrian didn't probe further. Instead he changed the topic.
"What do you think about doing it here?" Adrian asked. His voice returned to a casual tone, one that somehow doesn't sit right.
Ryan's eyes flew open in shock, his heart skipping a bit at the sudden question. "Wait, what?"
