Chapter 22 - Settling In

Looking at the sticky clouds about to give away his location to the Pack of Wolves, Ren pushed his limits, and the whole blood pushed the other bloodlines to work with the fire bloodline to cover his body and dissolve the sticky clouds.

Ren looked toward the circular formation and the wolves that had stopped moving in circles. The formation was still working. The wolves were looking in his direction; it seemed like they could smell the essence of the she-wolf's blood on him.

Ren started thrusting himself higher, elevating himself out of the firing range of the Cloud Wind wolf and his pack. He looked down to see if there was anyone following him; however, it seemed like the Cloud Wind wolf was creating a pathway out of his clouds.

His pack was rising higher. With the help of the Ice Wolves, they were able to create a much sturdier platform, slowly rising into the sky and forming a twisting crystal tower.

Ren's ascent was not as fast as his earlier dive. It seemed the gravity of the planet was also changing, because he was sure it had not been so hard to fly up before.

Seeing no other choice due to the restricting formation and the rising wolves, Ren planned to try something new. He stopped and looked down toward the rising, rounding icy slope. He focused on his whole blood, this time concentrating solely on the fire bloodline. His flames slowly started changing, from white-hot to something darker, turning into a purplish red.

Gathering his hands and making a circle with his fingers in front of the core of his body, Ren slowly started to gather the purplish-red flames between his fingers, forming them into a rotating flame vortex.

Slowly shifting the vortex's face toward the rising wolves, Ren shot out a beam of flame that incinerated the parts it touched, affecting the structure's foundations.

The structure slowly tilted and fell down, along with the half-bodies of the wolves that had been sliced off by the ray of purple flames. Ren looked at the falling ice tower, and from it, a cloud-covered wolf leapt out, leaving the rest of the pack to fall.

The Cloud Wind Wolf was flying in the air and did not need clouds or ice for footing. Using the wind element, the wolf started to rise toward Ren, withstanding the force of gravity.

Ren looked at the rising wolf and the flame vortex that had been snuffed out of existence, leaving him feeling exhausted and momentarily drained of fire power.

Since he could not use the fire bloodline's power, it was time to use the knuckle busters' fire to synergize with his whole blood and take on the Cloud Wind Wolf.

The wolf started to speed up, sensing the she-wolf's scent fading in the air and almost losing Ren. It began spewing out wind that seemed to form into mini tornadoes to boost it from below, helping it rise much faster.

Ren clinked his fisted knuckle busters, and feeling some energy generate inside him, he made use of invisibility through the suit's camouflage to blindside his opponent.

The essence had not fully waned from his body, so the wolf was able to move out of the way, but not before a gash appeared on its huge body and fur was shaved off from the connection between the forelegs and torso.

Ren decided to wait for the essence to wear off before attempting to ambush the wolf again; however, the Alpha Wolf was not having it and sent a wind claw slash in his direction. The wolf did not stop and also began releasing the sticky clouds again.

Feeling the sticky clouds attach to Ren, the wolf started spewing out wind tornadoes to surround the area and focused on the accumulating clouds, which roughly started forming the shape of Ren in the suit.

Ren gave up on attacking from the shadows and pushed himself toward the beast, bringing his punch down toward the wolf's head once again. The wolf shifted its head and took the attack on its wounded area while biting onto the suit.

The suit remained unaffected, giving Ren a point of relief and a reason to finally go all out and turn it into a slugfest. The wolf was continuously taking damage; Ren was safe from wounds but getting drained mentally from the first-ever fight in the apocalypse.

Finally losing it and giving up instinctive restrictions, Ren put his hand inside the beast's maw and jumped up onto the face of the wolf with his hand inside the jaw.

He started to spread the jaws apart and slowly break the jaw of the wolf, slowly tearing apart the body from the connection at the jaws and inwards, stopping when the wolf stopped thrashing and resisting, being more dead than a lake.

Ren pulled out his hand and let the wolf fall down from the height, slowly exhaling and looking at the height they had risen to during the fight.
