–1 point!
Ren suddenly snapped out of his stupor and started spewing profanities.
"!%@%%#&%!#! You useless thing—what good is a one-time rope?!"
The system's note and the second spin finally woke Ren up. While he was grateful, he had no idea how to deal with the future ahead. It felt like the apocalypse had covered the entire world rather than being limited to just one area.
Ren also started thinking about the Unlucky Roulette—how he had gained a point, and how the cndm box had appeared out of thin air in his hand.
But first, he needed to reach a safe place—somewhere with food, tools, and supplies to survive. He decided on the nearest mall. Even if it was partially destroyed, there would still be food and useful items, and he wouldn't need to buy anything.
Ren pulled out the "Rope" from the Unlucky Roulette's storage and tied it to the handlebar in the bathroom—something he had never known the purpose of until now, when it needed to support his weight.
He suddenly stopped.
"Will this even hold me?"
He looked around the bathroom for anything sturdier, but his eyes eventually returned to the handlebar.
"This is my only option."
Although his luck had never allowed things to go smoothly in his life, it had never pushed him to the brink of death before. Ren put on his old clothes—after cleaning off the bird droppings.
He tied one end of the rope to the handlebar and the other around his waist. Pulling it taut, he willed it to extend. Instantly, the rope slackened, clearly growing longer.
Ren marveled at it for a moment before looking back at the fallen apartment building. He searched for any signs of life—someone crawling, calling for help—still hoping Ophelia had somehow survived.
But there was nothing. The sirens, screams, and chaos drowned out everything else.
Ren closed his eyes, whispered a silent prayer, and slowly leaned backward over the edge. He peered down into the space below the bathroom. What he saw appeared to be an empty section of the building—possibly a corner of an apartment, decorated but abandoned.
He scanned the area, hoping to spot something useful for the descent.
Unfortunately, luck was not on his side.
+1 point.
The sudden sound nearly made Ren lose his footing. He opened the Unlucky Roulette, which had updated to show the spinning wheel and the familiar red spin button.
His eyes widened when he saw the points. He nearly slipped—twice.
Roulette Points: 1Next Spin: 2 points
"How did I gain a point? And how did the required points increase?"
Looking up at the rain-soaked sky, which made climbing down even harder, Ren thought, "Should I just let go? Ophelia might already be dead… and I'm not even sure I'll survive."
Ding!
The Unlucky Roulette opened again, revealing a new tab.
"Destiny Store"
Inside it, a potion category appeared.
Revival Potion – 15 points*
Ren froze. Strength slowly returned to his body as he stared at the item. Ignoring the asterisk and the question of how he would earn the points, he made up his mind.
He would find Ophelia—and revive her.
He bent his knees, gathered strength, and pushed off, landing on the ledge of the floor below.
He made it safely and checked the area for items. There were none—and this time, no points were gained.
Ren continued downward for the next two floors. The apartment building had fifteen floors, and Ren had lived on the seventh.
He reached the fourth floor. As he jumped again, something suddenly lunged out from inside the building, letting out a gurgling sound.
"AAAGHGAGH!"
Before he could even look properly, the stench hit him—overwhelming and rotten. Instinctively, Ren drove his knee into the creature's midsection and tried to shove it away.
But the thing had an iron grip on him, snapping its jaws as it tried to bite. The smell from its mouth was unbearable, like sewage trapped inside its stomach.
They swung violently toward the ledge.
Ren willed the rope to extend further. The creature slammed spine-first into the ledge with a sharp crack, like bones shattering.
Only then did Ren recognize it—a zombie.
As it loosened its grip and began slipping, a bar appeared above its head.
The zombie had been impaled on a metal bar jutting from the ledge. As Ren swung back, he finally saw it clearly—it looked like one of the apartment residents.
He didn't know who the person had been, but he whispered an apology and continued downward.
This time, he willed the rope to extend all the way to the ground.
Without further surprises, Ren finally reached the pavement and quickly ducked behind a dumpster for cover.
He glanced at the roulette interface.
