Chapter 34 - Chapter 34

"Since you want to learn Kendo," Yagami said, "I'll explain the stages to you first."

Deep within a quiet valley overlooking Konoha, Yagami and Kakashi sat facing each other.

As Yagami calmly introduced concepts of swordsmanship, Kakashi's brow tightened more and more.

Cutting iron?

Cutting steel?

The breath of all things?

These realms of Kendo were completely foreign to Kakashi.

Even though his father — the White Fang — had once been a renowned swordsman, Kakashi had never heard him speak about anything like this.

It was as if Yagami were explaining an entirely different world.

"…And that is the level I'm currently at," Yagami finished. "Did you understand everything?"

Kakashi stared blankly.

He absolutely did not.

But considering that this world revolved around chakra, it wasn't surprising that true Kendo knowledge was extremely rare.

"Let me demonstrate how these stages look in practice."

"Yes!" Kakashi answered quickly, standing up behind him.

His expression had grown serious — Kendo training was far more complex than he expected.

Huff—

Clang! Clang!

Rumble—!

With a light wave of Yagami's blade, a volley of slashes tore through the air.

Two thick trees ahead were cleaved cleanly at the trunks and toppled over.

"No… no chakra!?" Kakashi gasped.

When Yagami fought the Uchiha three days ago, Kakashi had been too far to see clearly.

Now, up close, he finally understood the truth:

A slash with pure swordsmanship alone, powerful enough to sever trees like paper.

"A powerful slash without using any chakra," Yagami said in a perfectly pretentious tone.

"This is what happens when someone truly grasps the way of the sword. Once you reach this level, you can replicate what I did."

"Next, I'll show you the stage above mine."

There was no metal around, so Yagami walked toward a massive rock embedded in the ground.

He inhaled softly.

His breathing stabilized.

His focus sharpened.

A quiet stillness radiated from him.

Woosh—

A soft whistle cut through the air.

Yagami sheathed his sword with a smooth motion and stepped back.

The rock didn't move.

Curious, Kakashi approached—

Bang—!

The upper half of the boulder suddenly slid off at an angle and crashed onto the ground.

Kakashi froze.

The cut was perfectly smooth — like polished glass.

"A-Amazing…"

He touched the sliced stone, feeling his throat tighten.

"This," Yagami said behind him, "is the level of someone approaching the peak of swordsmanship."

Kakashi turned and blinked in confusion.

Yagami was upside down on a tree branch, tying several thin cotton threads to it.

"Sensei… what are you doing?"

"This is your training for today."

After securing a dozen vertical threads, Yagami dropped from the branch.

He didn't plan to teach Kakashi combat forms yet.

First, the boy needed to learn the fundamentals — the swing.

But this swing was nothing simple.

"This is training?" Kakashi asked, puzzled as he stared at the dangling threads.

"Don't underestimate them," Yagami said. "Cutting all of these will take you hours."

Swish—

Before Yagami even finished, Kakashi drew his sword instantly and sliced one thread.

He turned proudly toward Yagami.

"You cut it incorrectly!"

Yagami groaned.

Sigh…

"I'll show you again."

He stepped beneath a thread, raised the blade overhead, and swung straight down.

Tss—

The line split cleanly in two from top to bottom.

"Now you see?"

Yagami looked at him.

"…Understood," Kakashi muttered, embarrassed.

He had assumed it was just cutting a string.

But this required precision, control, and perfect form.

"Then try it."

Yagami stepped aside.

Swish! Swish! Swish!

Kakashi swung over a dozen times, but the results were disastrous.

He missed half the lines entirely.

The ones he did cut were slashed sideways — completely wrong.

"Reduce your speed! Lower your frequency!"

"Focus your mind and spirit!"

Yagami's voice cracked like a drill instructor's, making Kakashi sweat bullets.

Finally...

After dozens of swings...

Kshff—

One thread split cleanly.

But Kakashi collapsed to the ground immediately afterward, drenched in sweat from the intense concentration.

"Mm. Not bad," Yagami said.

"T-Thank you… Yagami-sensei…"

Hearing the praise, Kakashi exhaled deeply and almost melted with relief.

"Once you recover your stamina, continue practicing. I'll come check on you later."

"Yes! Thank you, Sensei!!"

After giving his instructions, Yagami headed back toward the village.

He had prestige points to farm.

And prestige farming… waits for no one.
