Chapter 135: The Inconvenienced Klein
At Ben Parker's insistence, the Parker brothers went to his room to sleep. Peter even specially moved the sofa into Ben Parker's room. The Parker brothers made do with the sofa for the night.
The Next Morning
"Aw~" Silas groggily opened his eyes, his vision immediately blocked by a hand. Silas lifted his head slightly and saw that it was Peter's hand resting on his chest, while Peter's other hand hung down off the sofa.
Silas moved Peter's hand aside and got up to stretch. Just then, Aunt May woke up.
"Hey? Silas, you're up so early?" Aunt May said, still lying on the bed, somewhat disbelievingly.
Aunt May's voice immediately woke up Peter and Ben Parker, who were still sound asleep.
"Mmm~ Good morning, Uncle Ben, Aunt May, Silas," Peter mumbled, rubbing his sleepy eyes as he greeted them.
"Time to get up, kids," Ben Parker said. He wasn't sure why he hadn't called the police last night.
Aunt May ran a hand through her messy hair. "You two go get dressed and wash up. I'll go make breakfast." With that, she got out of bed to prepare breakfast for them.
"Let's go, Peter," Silas said, patting Peter's shoulder.
In the Bathroom
"How... how are we supposed to help Teacher... solve this?" Peter spoke unclearly, his mouth full of toothpaste foam.
"Puh!" Silas spat out the foam in his mouth and snapped, "Weren't you the one yesterday who was so confident about finding the culprit for the Teacher?"
"But don't you have your Shadowkhan army, Silas? Can't you just send them out to search?" Peter said, spitting out his foam and nudging Silas's shoulder.
"The Shadowkhan army isn't omnipotent. There are still things they can't do," Silas said, finishing brushing his teeth and pointing the toothbrush at Peter. "For example, the Shadowkhan army can't help with this particular matter."
"Fine, then we'll just have to search slowly," Peter didn't get discouraged. The culprit was bound to leave some clues.
Silas found this slightly frustrating. He didn't want to directly help Peter with this, but he would secretly send the Shadowkhan army to search on his own. After all, Klein was a decent teacher, and Silas would definitely help him if he could, but he couldn't let Peter know.
"I thought you'd be disappointed," Silas said with a faint smile.
Peter shrugged. "No, come on, Silas. I'm Spider-Man now. I think I can do it."
"Atta boy, Peter," Silas said, walking out of the bathroom.
Peter smiled at Silas's back and murmured, "Of course I can do it."
School
Klein walked into the classroom as usual and explained to everyone why he had been absent for the past few days. Of course, the reason was already fabricated.
"Did you notice, Peter?" Silas slowly leaned in close to Peter and whispered.
Peter followed Silas's gaze and saw that Klein's right hand was injured. He remembered that when the teacher visited their house last night, he hadn't been hurt.
Klein clearly noticed Silas and Peter's gaze. He naturally walked over to Silas's side to teach, subtly tapping Silas's desk with his left hand. Silas immediately understood that Klein had something to say, but this clearly wasn't the place to talk.
Peter and Silas exchanged a look, quietly waiting for time to pass.
Ring-ring-ring! School was over.
The Parker brothers put on their backpacks and closely followed Klein's footsteps. Ned and Misty, left behind, exchanged puzzled looks. What were those two brothers up to?
In the hallway, Klein, who had been walking ahead, suddenly turned around, smiled at Silas and Peter, and asked, "What is it, students?"
"Uh... Teacher, don't you have something you wanted to tell us?" Peter asked confusedly. Silas also stared at Klein with a puzzled look.
Klein spread his hands. "Silas, Peter, what would I have to tell you? Hurry home." With that, he turned and left.
Peter was about to step forward and ask, but Silas grabbed his arm and shook his head at Peter. Klein's words clearly meant that the current situation made it inconvenient to tell them anything, and he was telling them not to follow him. It seemed someone was watching Klein.
Silas pulled Peter around and walked off in the opposite direction.
Peter asked, confused, "What's going on, Silas?"
"Someone might be watching the teacher," Silas shared his thought with Peter.
"I see. So what do we do now?" Peter asked anxiously.
"I don't have an immediate solution either. The enemy is hidden, and we're exposed. We need to think this through carefully." Silas waved to Misty who was standing not far away.
Misty and Ned ran over to Silas. Misty asked, "Silas, why were you rushing off so quickly just now?"
"Peter and I had a question for Teacher Klein, so we were in a bit of a hurry," Silas said, nudging Peter.
Peter quickly chimed in. "Yes, we had a question about our studies that we needed to ask the teacher."
"Come on, if Peter went, I might believe it, but Silas going along? I don't believe it," Ned said, then added, "Were you going to see a pretty girl?"
"How pretty was that girl, Silas~" Misty looked at Silas with a smile that conveyed a chilling coldness.
"No! Peter just has thin skin and asked me to go with him!" Silas nearly tore Ned apart right there. Was this how a friend was supposed to behave?
"Ooh!" Ned immediately covered his mouth with both hands. He had completely forgotten Misty was standing right there. They usually joked around like this, so he said it out of habit.
"Yes," Peter thankfully stepped up and willingly took the blame. Peter didn't realize that he had just taken on the biggest blame of all.
"We have to go now. Misty, remember we're going out this weekend. Alright! Bye!" Silas didn't want to stay another second and dragged Peter out of the school.
Seeing Silas run off, Misty asked Ned, "Is that how you guys usually talk to each other?"
"Uh... No. Silas is very devoted. He once said that love is pure and flawless and must not be desecrated," Ned said, using every word he knew to praise Silas in front of Misty.
"Okay, I'm leaving now," Misty said, walking away with a look of disbelief.
Ned rubbed his nose guiltily. "I did my best, Silas. The rest is up to you."
"Hey! Ned, where are Silas and Peter?" To his surprise, Flash Thompson approached Ned and asked.
Ned hadn't expected Thompson to seek him out. He stuttered, "They... they just left."
"Just left?" Thompson looked back at the school gate and ran after them. The reason he was looking for Silas was because his newly joined football team was short one player. After thinking about it, he decided to look for Silas. Even though they had a conflict before, to him, the conflict had faded after so long. The school team was more important.
