Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Web Shooters

After pushing Aunt May back into her room, Peter was already too excited to wait. He rushed out the door and ran to their mailbox.

Peter opened the mailbox and found a letter inside! — To Peter Parker!

Feeling the thick envelope, Peter hurried back to his room with a pounding heart, turned on the desk lamp, and under the light...

A wad of hundred-dollar bills was revealed. Peter's breathing quickened. Excitedly, he counted the cash.

"Four thousand five hundred..." Peter carefully took out the five hundred dollars he had earned and placed it with the four thousand five hundred. "Five thousand."

"This is great!" Peter shouted happily in his mind.

With this five thousand dollars, he could help Uncle Ben replace his car, buy Silas the game console he wanted, and get Aunt May a vacuum cleaner for the house.

Aunt May always used a broom to save money, so a vacuum cleaner would make cleaning much easier.

"Silas's birthday is June 10th. That means it's coming up soon."

Peter had been worried about how to save enough money before Silas's birthday, but now everything was solved.

"I need to put this away safely." Peter placed the envelope in the drawer beneath his bed, lay down, and tried to sleep.

However, his excitement kept Peter awake for a long time that night.

Morning

"Wake up, Silas!" Peter knocked on Silas's door.

Silas rubbed his sleepy eyes and mumbled, "Isn't it still early? My alarm hasn't gone off yet."

"No~ It's not early! The morning sets the day's pace, and starting today, I'm going to supervise you. No more being late!" Peter told Silas enthusiastically.

Seeing Peter's energy, Silas guessed Peter had definitely seen the money.

Silas gave him an "OK" gesture. "Alright, Peter. I'll go wash up right now."

"That's great, bro! I'll wait for you downstairs," Peter left, highly elated.

Silas watched Peter leave, then rolled his eyes. The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese. He was going back to sleep.

But less than a minute after Silas closed the door, Peter knocked again.

Having no choice, Silas reluctantly ate breakfast with Peter and headed to school.

School

"I can't believe it, Silas. You're actually here so early," Misty said, surprised, walking up behind Silas.

In the past, Silas was either late or rushed in right at the bell, never arriving this early.

"Peter woke me up. Anyway, tomorrow is the weekend. Where are you planning to take me?" Silas asked, his head resting on the desk.

Misty pushed a strand of hair out of her eyes. "I'm taking you somewhere fun."

"Somewhere fun? Is it another amusement park?" Silas couldn't think of anything else.

Misty shook her head, smiling lightly. "It's not an amusement park."

"Alright, I'm looking forward to it." Silas smiled, then decided that since class hadn't started, he'd rest his head for a bit longer.

But the time for sleeping was short; class soon began.

Peter, on the other hand, was in a completely different state.

In his chemistry class, Peter immediately plunged into setting up his own experiment, completely ignoring the assignment the teacher had given.

Gurgle~ Gurgle~~

The substance in the test tube on Peter's experimental bench bubbled as if it were boiling.

"Oh~ Peter, what are you doing?" Peter's actions caught the teacher's attention.

"Nothing," Peter quickly disposed of the failed sample.

The teacher adjusted his glasses. "Student, please pay attention and complete my assignment."

"OK~ OK~" Peter immediately began working on the assignment. He finished his solution in less than a minute.

"Teacher, I'm done!" Peter raised his hand.

The teacher quickly walked over to Peter's bench and looked at his finished product, stunned. It's only been less than a minute?

"Alright, student, you are free to conduct your own experiments, but only use the materials provided on the bench," the teacher said and walked away.

Since it was a chemistry lab assignment, failures were inevitable. The teacher had placed the same ten sets of chemicals on every student's bench. This meant each student had ten attempts.

"Phew~" Peter sighed in relief, picked up the notebook in his pocket, and crossed out one of the elements with his pen, whispering, "Can't add that one..."

Peter devoted the entire day to chemistry. To have a reason to stay in the lab after hours, Peter specifically joined the Chemistry Club. The club gladly welcomed Peter, as few students joined, and Peter was an excellent student, making his entry easy.

After School

"So, Peter, you're going to be late again?" Silas asked, exasperated.

"Yes, Silas," Peter said, happily patting Silas's shoulder before leaving.

"Hi~ Peter~" Ned tried to speak.

Peter interrupted him. "Ned, I have club activities after school. You should head home first."

"Club activities?!" Ned's eyes widened. When did Peter join a club? As Peter's best friend, how did I not know anything about this?

Silas informed Ned, "He joined a Chemistry Club."

"Oh wow~ But that's good. I hope he can meet some friends he can talk to."

Hearing it was the Chemistry Club made Ned's head spin, but he still genuinely hoped Peter would make new friends.

Chemistry Lab

It was now nearly five o'clock. Everyone from the Chemistry Club had already left, leaving only Peter.

"I did it! Woohoo!" Peter shouted, excitedly jumping up and holding a device high in the air.

"The Web Shooter~" Peter named the device.

In the past few days, while controlling his powers, Peter had tried jumping between tall buildings but found he wasn't flexible enough. The distance between some high-rises was simply too far for a simple jump. Now, with the Web Shooter, everything was solved.

Peter immediately strapped the Web Shooter to his wrist. Just as he was about to test it, he noticed the surveillance camera above his head.

Startled, Peter quickly pulled his sleeve down, put on his backpack, and left.

Outside School

Peter found an alleyway, put on his suit, and adjusted his backpack. "Phew~"

Peter aimed at the wall above his head. Thwip! A strand of webbing shot out, sticking firmly to the wall.

Peter tried pulling on the web and found it to be incredibly strong.

"Alright, here I come!" Peter used the web to pull himself upward.

Between Skyscrapers

A red figure swung between the tall buildings.

"Yahoo~!" Peter felt the thrill of swinging high up, completely ecstatic.

"Spider-Man has arrived!" Peter shouted, and he made a mental note to thank the wrestling arena host for the name.

Peter performed a backflip in the air, and just as he was about to descend, he shot out another web, pulling himself up again.

It was at that moment Peter noticed a large truck about to hit an elderly man crossing the street.

"Here we go!" Peter grabbed the elderly man, pulling him out of the path of the oncoming truck.

However, Peter's sudden appearance caused the truck driver to swerve, making the truck crash into a nearby restaurant. Fortunately, the restaurant was closed.

Peter set the elderly man down, looking helplessly at the wrecked truck.

"Thanks, kid, but I think you should go save that driver now," the saved elderly man poked the distracted Peter with his cane.

Peter immediately snapped back to reality. He ran to the truck, gripped the door with both hands, ripped it off, tossed it aside, and pulled the unconscious driver out.

"Hey! Wake up!" Peter gently patted the driver's cheek. After confirming the driver was still breathing, he breathed a sigh of relief.

"He's okay! Someone call an ambulance! Thanks!" Peter shouted to the surrounding crowd, then shot a web and swung away.
