In the following days, Leo and Will wandered through every corner of Fishman Island. In the Sea Forest, they saw the historical Poneglyph recording Joy Boy's apology. As Leo brushed his fingers across the cold stone surface, he had a faint premonition—this was not the last time he would encounter it.
No matter how beautiful the scenery, seeing it every day eventually becomes dull. After spending more than a month on Fishman Island, Leo had grown tired of his surroundings and began planning his next journey.
According to his plan, he needed to visit Water 7 to replace his ship before heading to the Four Seas. A good craftsman must first sharpen his tools; building a high-performance vessel was essential. But where would the money come from? After long consideration, he could only spare a moment of silence for the pirates out at sea.For my great mission… I can only sacrifice you all.
"Brother Leo, let's go for a walk! The island is beautiful today!"
"Will, you little rascal. The new king's coronation is happening any day now—don't think only about playing. We need to go to the dojo later."
Will's massive frame trembled. For him, the dojo was a place of nightmares. Since childhood, every fishman had to learn Fishman Karate, but Will had always been everyone's punching bag. The trauma had followed him into adulthood. Whenever anyone mentioned the dojo, he resisted with everything he had.
Seeing this, Leo sighed."Brother, you have to beat the demon inside your heart. Tiger told me your natural talent is the strongest among the fishmen. Once you learn properly, don't you want to teach those bullies a lesson?"
C-can I really do that?
"Of course. Remember what I told you about beans—about living a life doing nothing but eating and idling around? If you don't work hard, you'll always be a bean."
Two heavy snorts burst from Will's nostrils."I… I don't want to be a bean. I want to turn those bullies into beans!"
"That's the spirit. Let's go."
Before long they arrived at the dojo on Fishman Street, where Fisher Tiger was training. Ever since accepting Leo's plan, Tiger had been pushing himself relentlessly. Already the peak of Fishman Street's martial world, he was now honing his skills even further. At this rate, he would surely surpass Jinbe from the original timeline. The stronger Tiger became, the more he could accomplish for the fishmen.
"Tiger, we're here. I want to learn Fishman Karate too." Leo spoke directly. He felt Fishman Karate was a perfect match for his Devil Fruit abilities.
"Leo, I'm not trying to discourage you, brother," Tiger said with a grimace. "But you really don't have the talent for physical arts. Even if you train, your achievements will probably be limited."
"I know my physical talent is garbage, and I don't expect to master Fishman Karate. I only want to learn two techniques—Water Shot and Water Gun. Can you teach me those?"
Tiger's eyebrow twitched. He suddenly had the urge to punch Leo."Leo… why those? Humans might manage other techniques, but Water Shot and Water Gun are impossible. Only fishmen can use them."
"Why?"
Tiger cleared his throat and held up a hand, spreading out his webbed fingers. Will also grinned and mimicked the gesture.
Leo slapped Will's hand. "You're saying I don't have webs?"
"Exactly. Those techniques require physically grabbing seawater—and when you swing, your fingers need to grip the air."
Tiger demonstrated, showing the immense power of Fishman Karate. His water strikes pierced multiple coral walls, and his water bullets were stronger than cannon fire. But his worry was needless. Leo didn't need webbed hands—he had something better.
So Leo demonstrated his power. When Tiger saw Leo gathering seawater in his palm and condensing it into a tight sphere, his eyes nearly popped out. The next moment, the tiny water orb blasted apart a massive coral boulder.
Tiger's jaw hit the floor. Only now did he truly grasp how terrifying Leo was. If normal fishmen's water attacks were bullets, Tiger's were sniper rounds—Leo, however, had just casually thrown a grenade.
Jinbe and Arlong had also been skeptical. They mocked Leo at first for overestimating himself. But after witnessing the "grenade-level" water blast, they shut their mouths. They never admitted it aloud, but their changed attitude showed their newfound respect.
During Leo's training sessions, Shyarly visited daily. The two were natural-born frenemies—bickering constantly from the moment they met. Yet the more they argued, the more attached she became.
After one day of intense practice, Leo suggested Will relax at the Mermaid Café. When Shyarly appeared and insisted on going too, Leo refused—until he learned she was the owner, at which point he instantly changed his mind.
"Welcome! Leo, sweetie, it's been days! Don't tell me you've forgotten your sisters?"The poster girl leaned close, her soft body brushing against him.
"Oh? So Leo comes here often?" Shyarly teased, her tone sour enough to curdle milk.
"You don't understand, kid. I'm destined to be the King of the Seas," Leo said, the meaning half-joking, half-serious. Shyarly, of course, didn't catch the subtext.
Watching him drink coffee and flirt with mermaids soured Shyarly's mood even further. Suddenly, one of the girls leaned in and whispered:
"Hey, wanna try the Mermaid Café's special service? You've definitely never tried it."
"Oh? The famous 298—uh, Shyarly, what 'special service' are you talking about?"Leo nearly exposed himself but covered quickly.
"298? What nonsense? I'm talking about fortune-telling. I'm really accurate. Want a reading or not?"Though she acted proud, her flushed cheeks and uncertain eyes made her seem strangely vulnerable.
Leo didn't notice—he was already intrigued. The prophecy about the future Pirate King destroying Fishman Island… he wanted to know what fate awaited him.
"Relax. Focus on the crystal ball. Don't look away."
Shyarly placed her hands around the crystal. After a long silence, she suddenly gasped, fell backward, and hit the floor, face pale with fear.
"Shyarly! Are you okay?" Leo reached to help her, but she recoiled with a terrified scream—then, realizing her reaction, awkwardly sat back down.
Leo frowned. "What did you see to freak out like that? Hello? Earth to Shyarly?"
She only shook her head. She refused to say more.
"You're really a mystery. Fine, forget it. Come on—I'll buy you a drink."
After that, Leo and Will settled into a simple routine—dojo, café, dojo, café. Leo mastered the basics of Fishman Karate quickly, learning Water Shot and Water Gun within a week. Tiger was moved to tears; it was a pity Leo wasn't a fishman.
Finally, the day of Neptune's coronation arrived. In the center of Fishman Island, Neptune donned the crown and became the 13th king. He then announced that Otohime would officially be his queen.
As the people cheered, the ceremony proceeded smoothly—until a thunderous explosion echoed across the island.
"Reporting to His Majesty! Pirates have infiltrated the island and destroyed the port!" The octopus guard shouted in panic. The ministers followed with loud cries of alarm.
Neptune drew his trident."My people, return home and take shelter! The palace guards will follow me to repel the intruders!"
"Jinbe! Arlong! Let's deal with those pirates!" Tiger immediately rallied Fishman Street's fighters. Leo didn't shout—he simply followed quietly with Will.
The defenders reacted quickly. By the time Neptune and Tiger arrived, the pirates had already been pushed back to the harbor. Neptune swung his golden trident like a demon king, cutting through the enemy ranks. Tiger's Fishman Karate sent waves crashing with every strike. Victory was within reach.
Seeing his crew losing, the pirate captain panicked and fled, dragging a large sack. As he leapt toward his ship, a wave from Jinbe smacked into him, causing him to drop the bag—revealing several tightly bound mermaid girls.
"Those bastards kidnapped mermaids! Soldiers, after them! We must rescue our people!"Every fishman present was enraged.
But the pirate captain grabbed one girl, leaped aboard the ship, and began escaping.
"Stop him! Don't let him get away!"But no matter how they chased, they could only watch helplessly as the ship slipped through the bubble and into the sea.
Despair filled the crowd—until Leo suddenly sprinted toward the exit of Ryugu Palace. Seawater gathered around his body as he ran.
"Leo, don't be reckless! This is the ocean—humans can't take the water pressure!" Tiger shouted, horrified, but Leo had already donned his sea-stone armor and leapt out of the bubble.
Tiger moved to chase him—but a hand grabbed his wrist.
He turned to see Shyarly."Tiger… don't worry about him. He'll be fine."
Her eyes remained fixed on Leo's silhouette fading into the deep sea.
"Shyarly, don't be ridiculous. Leo is human—if he goes out there, the pressure will crush him! Let go!"Tiger was genuinely angry now. Why was she being so irrational?
