Chapter 31 - Chapter 31 The Boy Riding on the Water Gods

Today, at the port of Fishman Island, Neptune, Otohime, Tiger, Shyarly, and the ladies from the Mermaid Café all gathered to bid farewell to the island's heroes.

"Leo, remember to come back and visit us often. Fishman Island will always be your second home," Princess Otohime said with a gentle smile as she waved.

"We'll miss you, little Leo. I'll never forget your kindness," the beautiful mermaid sisters said, their eyes shimmering with tears.

"Leo, you idiot… don't you dare die out there. A-And… there are people on Fishman Island waiting for you to come back."Despite blushing furiously, Shyarly still acted as tsundere as ever—even during a farewell.

After saying goodbye to everyone, Leo's gaze finally landed on Tiger. Their eyes met, and Tiger gave him a firm nod. They had already discussed training the crew and waiting for the right opportunity, especially after the battle with John. Leo even told Tiger to practice his Armament and Observation Haki diligently.

The ship soon sailed away from Fishman Island. Watching the Deep-Sea Pearl grow smaller and smaller, Leo withdrew his gaze."Will, speed up a little. Our next destination is the City of Seven Seas."

A few hours later, Shen Zhou burst through the surface of the sea. Using his Devil Fruit powers, Leo took only one hour to travel back from the ocean depths.

Before heading to Water 7, Leo didn't forget to swing by Shampoo to claim his bounty. With the direction fixed, the ship headed toward the Navy port.

At the naval base, the guards were as lazy and idle as ever. For the Shampoo Marines, this was a standard state of being. They appeared to be guarding an important building, but in truth, it was more like they were exiled here.

Hearing footsteps approaching, one of the dozing soldiers snapped upright instantly, pretending to stand in proper formation.

"This is a Navy base. Please stop your ship," they called out in routine fashion.

"Hello, sir. We're here to exchange a bounty."Leo shook the cloth sack containing John's severed head.

The great Captain John was "great" partly because he contributed his own bounty to Leo's cause. With Captain Fanny's bounty added, Leo's wealth now exceeded 100 million.

Everything went as usual, but Lieutenant Ryan was even more enthusiastic this time. In just two months, the "Sea Knight" squad had taken down two pirates with bounties over 50 million. Their achievements were enough to draw the Navy's attention. Looking at the two young men before him, Ryan suddenly realized all his efforts here had been wasted—maybe it was time to apply for a transfer from the Shampoo squad. Unbeknownst to Leo, he had just changed the fate of a Marine officer.

Before leaving, Ryan attempted once more to recruit Leo and his companions, but as expected, they refused. After handing over the bounty, he personally escorted them out.

"Will, let's stop by Shakky's place for a meal before we leave. It's rude to disappear without saying goodbye."

"Yeah, yeah, I miss Shakky's cooking too."Will agreed cheerfully, though the drool shining at the corner of his mouth ruined any attempt to look cool.

"Shakky, it's me again—sorry to bother you—huh…?"Leo froze mid-sentence as he saw the chaotic scene inside the bar.

Shakky was holding a three-meter-tall brute by the collar, punching him repeatedly while lecturing him on table manners."Oh? Leo, Will. Sit down and wait a moment, I'll be right with you."

There was no need to describe what happened afterward. One look at Will trembling like a wet puppy was enough to understand that this scene was not suitable for children.

After the guests and host shared a hearty meal, Leo gave Shakky an artistically retold version of their Fishman Island adventure."…And that's how I somehow became the hero of Fishman Island."

"Ha! You really love showing off wherever you go. Next time you fight pirates, don't be reckless. I don't want to hear about your death someday."

"Don't worry, Shakky. I won't make the same mistake again. The next time we meet, I'll return with glory."

"Haha, I'll look forward to that day."

Leo lay lazily on the deck. Hearing a bird's call, he opened one eye, flicked a coin, and the news gaull caught it midair in a perfect arc. A rolled-up newspaper fell precisely into Leo's hand.

Bored out of his mind, Leo flipped the paper open. The front page displayed a large photo of Crocodile biting down on a cigar, looking down at the world with an arrogant expression. The photographer must've been incredibly skilled—he perfectly captured Crocodile's stubbornness (3 points), arrogance (7 points), and overwhelming egotism (a staggering 90 points).

He was given a flashy new title:The First of the Seven Sea Kings — "Crocodile" CrocodileHe had just announced he would be stationed in the Desert Kingdom. Whether that meant disaster or blessing remained to be seen.

"Morgans is brave. He actually managed to guess both answers to the same riddle. Quite talented."

"Why are there two correct answers?" Will blinked in confusion.

"Haha, look. Crocodile stationed in Shampoo Kingdom… it'll bring peace for at least 20 years. Isn't that good news?"

"What's the other correct answer?"

Leo simply chuckled and didn't answer. He flipped through a few more pages, then placed the newspaper over his face and fell asleep.

Before setting sail, Leo imagined the beauty of life on the seas. Reality hit harder—sometimes you won't see a single ship for half a month. The endless blue stretched in every direction until your eyes hurt and your mind numbed.

As captain, Leo's laziness rubbed off on Will. The little chubby boy became more and more like a salted fish each day. Since the Shen Zhou could propel the ship by itself, the only work Will had to do was wipe the deck—after a few days at sea, he slept even deeper than Leo.

One day, Leo realized they couldn't go on like this."Will, wake up. Let's train."

Rubbing his sleepy eyes, Will sat up unwillingly."Didn't we train yesterday? You want to practice Fishman Karate again?"

"No. Basic training is more important than martial arts—especially for you. I want to help you unlock your potential."Leo manipulated the water and tossed Will straight into the ocean.

The shock of the cold water woke Will instantly. His round little face poked above the surface, glaring resentfully at Leo.

"Will, today we're doing water aerobics. I'll stop the Shen Zhou—you push the ship all the way to Water 7. Enjoy the sunset swim, young man."

Will's face twisted in despair. When Leo entered this "motivated" mode, his eyes sparkled unnervingly. Will knew there was no way to persuade him—so he simply accepted his fate.

Leo lounged comfortably in his deck chair, hair blowing in the breeze."Come on, Will! Push your limits! Show me your rage!"

Two hours later—"Big bro, I can't… I can't do it anymore… I'm starving. Let me goooo…"Will clung to the ship's railing, panting like a dying fish.

Leo's snot bubble popped as he woke up, dazed."Huh? What's wrong? Are we at Water 7?"

"Bro… I'm tired… and hungry… and I want a big meal… lying down."

Seeing Leo drooling in his sleep made Will snap.

"Oh? You want a meal, huh? Fine. I'll give you some motivation."

Behind them, about a kilometer away, a medium-sized Sea King slept peacefully on the seabed. It looked like a giant sea cow. Leo chose it immediately—perfect as both motivator and dinner.

Quietly, a ball of water shot toward the sea cow.

It struck the Sea King square on the forehead. It woke with a jolt, annoyed, and stared at the wobbling ball of water before it. The waterball flashed a "certain gesture." Rage erupted instantly.

It whipped its tail and charged.

Meanwhile, Will wondered why Leo suddenly went silent. He didn't have long to ponder.

A massive shadow rose behind him.

He slowly turned around…A furious sea cow loomed over him.

"Moooo—%*&#…"

"Holy sh*t!!"

Both of them screamed simultaneously—and the chase began.

Will, tears streaming, pushed the ship as fast as his chubby arms allowed.

Leo stood with one foot on the raised bow."Good job, Will! Just a bit more! Don't let our dinner tire you out!"

The chase continued for another hour. Turns out fear and hunger could push one well beyond their limits. But the fun ended as the sky suddenly darkened.

Lightning cracked. The sea tilted. The world roared.

Behind the Sea King, a towering wall of water rose—an enormous tsunami.

With newfound strength, both Will and the sea cow pushed themselves to the absolute extreme. A boat, a boy, and a sea cow skimmed across the sea like skipping stones.

Soon, an island appeared ahead—its layered houses and central fountain tower distinct.

"We made it—Water 7!"Leo activated the Shen Zhou, boosting their speed even more.

"AAAAAAHHHHHH!!"
