Chapter 26 - The First Fight of the Night [1]

Shortly before the tournament began, Miguel looked for Jackson, who was in the locker room ready to go out and fight, and said, "So you'll fight after all."

"Are you excited?" Jackson was adjusting his gloves when he looked at Miguel standing in the doorway.

Even if one isn't going to fight, when witnessing live fights the adrenaline becomes contagious to the point where you feel as if you're fighting yourself.

Of course, Miguel wasn't an exception.

He was too excited because he hadn't imagined that Jackson was actually a fighter and that tonight he would witness fights he might not have the chance to see later.

But even if he was excited, a part of him was worried that Jackson was being reckless with his decision to fight when he had refused before.

"I'm impressed by the place, but… do you feel confident about beating those guys with tattoos?" Miguel, who had seen the fighters, felt intimidated.

Jackson's gaze, now covered with a thin layer of sweat, showed a confident smile and he said, "Since I've joined Cobra Kai, you'll discover my level of fighting."

In the mansion, directly in the open area where there was a fighting arena, about six hundred people had gathered around.

There were no seats; everyone who wanted to watch the fight had to get close enough to the arena, but without crossing the safety limits where the VIPs stood.

Farther away there was a board with the names of the contestants placed on a bracket with more than twenty participants.

"Everyone, you've waited a long time, but we're finally here… Many have waited too long for real fights without many rules, but now you're about to witness what real fights truly are."

They were all street fighters, some who had participated in other illegal competitions where they had earned some fame.

Jackson was clear about it—he would win with his best moves as quickly as possible to avoid wasting unnecessary time. In fights like these, where there was nothing to prove, one had to win as fast as possible to avoid getting hurt.

"Let the fights begin!"

Jackson looked at the fighting arena and the bracket board that was right in front of him.

"Play it safe, we'll support you from here." Devon said as she encouraged Jackson with a pat on the shoulder.

"Will you take me home if I lose?"

Devon smiled and said, "We'll leave you here lying on the ground if you lose, so make sure to beat all these arrogant idiots."

Miguel, standing on one side, intervened and said, "I will take you to my house, but I don't know how to drive, and even if we call a taxi, I'm not sure they would even get to this place…"

Devon glared at Miguel and he stayed quiet, understanding he was interfering with Jackson's motivation.

Jackson smiled upon hearing this, and his gaze began to evaluate if all the people there could be possible obstacles to his victory in this place.

"Jackson, you'll be the first one." Ryan approached his friend to tell him he would fight first.

"Do you have something?"

"His name is Billy, the guy is Russian, but nothing compared to the other opponents waiting for you."

At that moment, Jackson said goodbye to his friends and entered the arena where the noise was truly suffocating.

"Are you ready?! Both of you to the center."

"Look at each other!"

Jackson looked at his opponent and clenched his hands tightly; the guy he was facing was as big as an adult.

"Many call you the Crusher and honestly that nickname sounds like shit…"

Billy was a fairly robust twenty-year-old guy, so if Jackson wasn't careful, a single hit could send him flying out of the combat arena.

When the announcer gave the signal to start the fight, Billy thought it was a joke that they paired him against a blind guy in an illegal fight, so he advanced slowly.

"Let me treat you gently!" Billy, with his long leg, tried to kick Jackson; his kick had enough force to knock out any other fighter.

Unfortunately, that kick varied in speed, and Jackson was too fast for that kick to land on his body.

Thud!

While Jackson dodged Billy's first kick, his calm gaze changed to one of intensity when he saw an opening in his opponent's leg, so he turned his body and kicked Billy's thigh with great force.

The force behind that kick was something even Jackson didn't measure; he had thought that due to his opponent's size, his blows would be like soft taps, so he didn't hold back.

THUD!!!

"Aaahhhh!"

The moment his kick struck Billy's upper leg, Billy fell to the ground and rolled from one side to the other while holding the place where he had been hit.

"Finish him!"

"Kill him!"

Everyone wanted Jackson to keep hitting Billy, who had fallen to the ground unable to stand up. But Jackson wasn't that kind of fighter, so he waited for him to get up.

"One kick was enough?" Seeing this scene, Jackson was discouraged from continuing to hit that guy.

Jackson walked in circles waiting for him to get up, while his gaze focused on the red wound that guy had on his leg.
