Chapter 27 - Commotion
"What happened there?"
"I can't believe it, a single kick from that guy and he took down that huge fighter…"
"It's crazy, you sent him flying with that kick!" shouted a man who was already drunk as he celebrated with the people around him.
Miguel was to one side, jumping up and down while holding in the air the ticket that showed his twenty-dollar bet. "I'm rich, damn it, I actually won in the first minute."
"Stop making such a fuss." Devon said, also stunned by the money Jackson had bet on his own fight.
"Jackson, idiot, did you break his leg?" Ryan stood beside Devon, right after the fight had started, and was so surprised he nearly broke character. He had to admit he was excited to see his friend defeat a gigantic opponent, but that wasn't the point here.
"Does he specialize in kicks?" Miguel looked at Ryan, knowing both had known each other for a long time.
Now that he knew much more about Jackson than he had ever imagined, he was excited to learn all those moves.
"He specializes in everything you can imagine, I can't tell you what I specialize in because I've been defeated." Ryan looked at Miguel and then saw how Jackson's opponent was being taken away after he couldn't continue the fight.
"So he lost, how?" Many people in the crowd couldn't see that kick; furthermore, no one believed a single kick could knock out a fighter.
"What the hell are they doubting?" shouted Devon, who was looking at the complaints from everyone who believed this victory wasn't realistic.
"Check his foot, he must have something hidden!" shouted a girl who was actually Billy's girlfriend and who was now stunned.
"Bitch, I'm going to check your mouth and beat those ideas out of your head!" Devon, who wanted to start a fight right there with the unknown girl for slandering her friend, was stopped by Miguel and Baja Miller to one side.
"Whenever you want, Asian bitch, you must have felt so arrogant seeing your boyfriend win a fight, but I'm telling you right now he won't win the tournament."
"I'll break those teeth if you get in my way, damn bitch!" Devon muttered as she whispered to the girl who was barking nonsense.
"This is chaos…" Jackson had indeed kicked in a zone where you can strike the leg nerve, but he hadn't expected it to be so effective against experienced fighters like the ones he would face in this tournament.
When he removed his mouthguard, he walked toward his group, who quickly handed him a bottle of water and a towel so he could wipe off the sweat.
"How did you do it?" Miguel, who had won a lot of money, had eyes gleaming with excitement.
"That fighter is big, so I thought that with a normal strike he'd cause me a lot of damage, so I wanted to stop him once he started throwing punches at me…" Jackson explained his point as he looked around at the people arguing about what would happen next.
After the victory was announced, the fights continued one by one.
Ryan opened a can of beer, handed it to Miguel—who wasn't drinking—and both celebrated Jackson's overwhelming victory, while Jackson was explaining the areas where strikes hurt the most.
"I have a good kick, I'll surely learn a lot." Devon wanted to start her Karate classes at Cobra Kai as soon as possible after watching these last fights.
Miguel to one side was sweating cold, having two monsters in combat as friends; it felt satisfying, but at the same time he thought maybe they were a bad influence for him.
"One more fight and you'll be qualified for the round of sixteen, don't take any damage and win with harder hits." Ryan was more excited than anyone else because he was earning a lot of money.
Meanwhile, the following fights were much more brutal than Jackson's due to the blood of many fighters.
"Jackson, you're next."
When called, Jackson bumped fists with Devon and Miguel, then headed toward the arena and looked from the other end at his opponent.
This time Jackson felt his opponent was much more competent, so the excitement that had been calm began to explode.
"The next round of fights is about to begin!"
The crowd was in an uproar because Jackson was the one who would fight again, and this time his opponent was a very strong one.
