Chapter 28 - A New Confrontation
Jackson's opponent this time was from another category, one who would make things a bit difficult, but only a bit.
"Look toward me, ready?"
"Both to your corners!"
Jackson bowed to his opponent, something he had picked up after training on the Asian continent, and positioned himself to fight. This time, he wouldn't throw such fast strikes, since he wanted to keep control of the fight at all times.
"Ready? Fight!"
Jackson looked his opponent in the eyes and advanced quickly, throwing a front kick that was easily dodged.
The moment Jackson entered his opponent's range, the man tried to punch him in the body, but it was dodged using the defense he had been training, and he slid, quickly returning the strike at an even more surprising speed.
Pow! Pow! Pow!
Three punches struck the side of Jackson's opponent, who clearly complained about the pain.
"Finish him, Jackson!" Miguel was going crazy watching the fight.
"Damn slippery dog!"
Jackson smiled and moved quickly toward his opponent again, who immediately began throwing front kicks to keep him away. But by fighting always at distance when he didn't intend to attack, he stepped back just enough not to be hit.
Seeing Jackson at the limit, his opponent smiled, and in the moment he threw a kick toward Jackson's head, Jackson took advantage of it and attacked, first covering the impact of the kick and then counterattacking with a hook kick.
Crack!
The strike landed on his opponent's chin, who, due to the sudden attack, even had his mouthguard go flying.
Looking at his opponent provocatively, Jackson felt all that emotion he hadn't felt in a long time and said, "You'll need more if you want to beat me, don't hurt yourself more than necessary."
"I'm not even hurt." Jackson's opponent scoffed and began a more aggressive counterattack.
This time, Jackson was forced into a tighter defensive style.
Pow! Pow! Pow!
Dodging his opponent's blows and returning them with equal speed, Jackson now faced a fight he wasn't comfortable in, so he stepped back.
So far, his opponents had used punches and kicks; none had used elbows or tried to take him down.
But this fighter, who was much younger, seemed to know various martial arts and combined each of his strikes with precision.
This could easily cause Jackson damage—damage that would affect him in later fights—so now he would change his fighting stance.
"Other methods…" Seeing that his attacks weren't working this time, Jackson relaxed his body more and opened his fighting stance.
His opponent looked at him with confusion, but being at a disadvantage, he immediately attacked angrily, feeling humiliated.
"I'll finish this with a feint…" Jackson clenched his fists and received the strikes head-on in close combat.
His punches now seemed uncontrolled, but they were fast, forcing his opponent onto the defensive. But at the moment when he was about to keep attacking his rival clearly, Jackson stopped halfway and, instead of punching, used a spinning kick.
Pow!
This time his kick wasn't strong, but it was brutal enough to surprise his opponent and make him drop his guard.
Jackson's eyes tracked the impact, but he immediately knew it wouldn't be enough.
That's why he quickly slid in and ran toward his opponent, who was still recovering.
Like a rabid dog, Jackson dropped his guard and, when he was in front again, he jumped.
Crack!
Using his knee, Jackson struck his opponent's forehead, who immediately fell heavily to the ground from the impact.
"He's out! Winner, Jackson Jones!" shouted the referee, still shocked as the medics tended to the cut on Jackson's opponent's forehead.
"Good fight!" Jackson bowed to his opponent and quickly left the arena.
As he was heading to his place, Alex, who would fight next, looked at him with an arrogant smile and said, "That was a good fight, way too short for my taste, but I think I could still give you a beating."
Jackson stopped. His eyes—one blind and the other not—met Alex's gaze, and he said, "I'll be waiting for you in the final, big talker. Just don't lose before that or it would be extremely humiliating."
Alex frowned, but since his fight was next, he quickly walked to his fighting zone.
…
"That was incredible, Jackson."
A joyful expression appeared on Devon's face as Jackson approached. She, who seemed calmer after witnessing Jackson's skill, was the first to congratulate him with a hug.
"Are you sure you want this?" Jackson, still agitated from the fight, asked the ecstatic Devon.
"If I learn with you, the classes will be much more productive, I think so." Devon had been talking about what Miguel was learning and discovered that so far he was only improving his physical condition.
Miguel, meanwhile, took the moment to hand out flyers from his Sensei's dojo, where Jackson would be training starting next week, and many people who lived nearby wanted to sign up.
Definitely, this fame would bring Cobra Kai a wave of new students, which would strengthen its future dynasty in the Valley.
