Chapter 13: The Situation in the Divine Realm
If Tang San had never become a god, and Bo Saixi's and Tang Chen's souls had been able to remain together eternally, that story might have remained a tragedy. But since it was destined to be a tragedy, then, in the eyes of Huo Yuhao—the undisputed master of tragedy—it might as well be made completely irreversible.
And so, Tang Chen's fate diverged.
In the original timeline, Tang Chen traveled to the Slaughter City to inherit his godhood. But in Huo Yuhao's altered reality, he was instead lured by Tianmeng to Ah Sanctum hidden within the Extreme North—Huo Yuhao's own legacy site—where he underwent a divine trial.
It was a top-tier Eightfold Trial. Tang Chen became a servant and worshiper of the Eternal God, bound eternally to the Eternal Sanctuary. The very first test of his trial? To go and offer congratulations to his "dear old friends"—Tang Xiao, Bo Saixi, and Qian Daoliu—within the Clear Sky Sect and Spirit Hall.
Thus, in this reincarnated Douluo timeline, the former three ultimate Douluo—Tang Chen, Bo Saixi, and Qian Daoliu—no longer seemed so untouchable. All three had become divine attendants. Bo Saixi served as a subordinate to a second‑rank god, Qian Daoliu to a first‑rank god, and Tang Chen… to the Supreme Eternal God King himself. At least before Qian Daoliu, Tang Chen could still pretend to hold a slight superiority.
Yet this situation left the Asura God fuming. His carefully chosen successor had been stolen.
The greatest insult wasn't that Huo Yuhao had taken his chosen inheritor—it was that he hadn't even elevated Tang Chen to godhood! Instead, he had made the man a glorified servant.
"What does he mean by this?" the Asura God fumed. "Is he suggesting that the inheritor of the Asura God is fit only to serve as a subordinate?"
Outraged, he immediately convened the Divine Realm Committee and formally charged Huo Yuhao with "unethical interference in divine succession." But the meeting turned unexpectedly chaotic.
Normally, the five God Kings stood united, advancing and retreating as one. Yet this time, things went differently. The Goddess of Life was conspicuously absent, and the God of Destruction—speaking in representation for both—voted against the motion. As a result, the Asura God's impeachment proposal was abruptly vetoed.
The veto, in itself, did not devastate him; he had never expected to topple Huo Yuhao through mere procedure. True power didn't rest in votes—but in strength. What truly unsettled the Asura God was the apparent shift in the attitudes of the Life and Destruction Gods.
For ages, those two had stood beside him, acting in concert. But recently, the Goddess of Life had grown increasingly private—locking herself within her temple, receiving no visitors. The God of Destruction, once his stalwart ally, had also grown cold and neutral.
The sudden distance left the Asura God deeply uneasy.
Then Poseidon, ever scheming, spoke carefully, "Lord Asura… could it be that something has happened in the Life God's domain—something that forced the God of Destruction to seek help from the Eternal God?"
The Asura God pondered, brow furrowed. "That is… possible."
"If so," said the God of the Cookery, worry creeping into his tone, "doesn't that mean that the Life and Destruction Gods might defect to the Eternal God? That would tear apart the very balance of the Divine Realm!"
For indeed—Huo Yuhao was no ordinary deity. He was a god of Dragon God‑level authority—the Eternal God King. The only thing maintaining equilibrium was the combined strength of the five God Kings, united to keep his might in check. If even two of those defected, the balance would crumble completely, and those aligned with the Asura faction would be doomed.
The Asura God, suppressing his own unease, spoke slowly but firmly. "Life, Destruction, and I have upheld order in this realm for eons. Our friendship spans tens of thousands of years. If Huo Yuhao believes he can sway that loyalty with a few tricks or gestures of goodwill, then he is delusional."
Rising from his throne, he clasped his hands behind his back and strode thoughtfully through the vast chamber. "But whether or not he succeeds, one fact remains—the balance of the Divine Realm is showing cracks."
Poseidon immediately asked, "My lord Asura, what do you mean?"
The Asura God turned, his tone heavy. "The Gods of Kindness and Evil—the oldest of us—intend to retire. They wish to pass down their divine thrones and then wander the cosmos together."
"What?" Poseidon froze. "Have you tried to dissuade them, my lord?"
He hadn't expected this; the stability of Life and Destruction had already been uncertain, but Kindness and Evil were cornerstones of the realm's council. If even they departed, the Asura faction would lose its foundation—and the Eternal God would rise unopposed. Huo Yuhao's hostility toward Poseidon was hardly a secret—if the Eternal God gained preeminence, Poseidon's days would be numbered.
"I've tried," the Asura God admitted with a grim sigh. "But their decision is made. Still, I persuaded them to transfer their council authority to my chosen successor upon their departure—and to ensure their heirs will assist him in maintaining the balance."
"You mean…" Poseidon's eyes widened.
"Yes," said the Asura God. "I, too, intend to leave the Divine Realm one day. But I will not depart until I ensure it is safe. The Eternal God must never gain full control. If he does, he will twist this place to his will, purge dissent, and turn both the Divine and mortal realms into extensions of his mind. That would be catastrophe—not just for us, but for all creation."
His steps echoed through the temple as he paced, his red eyes filled with troubled conviction. "Kindness and Evil wish to depart. Life and Destruction have grown distant. The balance collapses, piece by piece. Can it be… that this realm, the sacred order we've guarded for millennia, will one day fall into the hands of that presumptuous Eternal God? How shameful, how pitiful…"
He halted, voice hardening. "That is why I cannot yet lay down my burden. As the keeper of Judgment, it is my duty to prepare an heir—one who is pure, selfless, and righteous beyond reproach. Only such a being, embodying wisdom, humility, and moral strength, can inherit my authority. He must succeed me, seize the Council's reigns from Kindness and Evil's successors, and preserve balance across the realms, preventing Huo Yuhao's absolute dominion."
"And have you chosen such a candidate, Lord Asura?" Poseidon asked carefully.
The Asura God nodded slowly. "In a few dozen days, the Douluo Continent will once again experience its millennial convergence of fate—an event that occurs every ten thousand years. Nearly every divine lineage—the Dragon God, the Ice God, the Eternal God, the Angel God, the Sea God—traces back to one such convergence. No god born of that world is ordinary."
"I have selected from the lower realm a child embodying every virtue, a pearl among souls. I will channel the continent's fortune into him, guiding his path, shaping his destiny. When he matures, he will inherit my mantle and ascend as the strongest Asura yet—claiming the authority once shared by Kindness and Evil, and preserving the balance that keeps the Eternal God in check."
"A 'pearl among souls,' my lord?" Poseidon's shrewd eyes flickered, his tone laced with intrigue. "May I ask… who exactly is worthy of such divine favor?"
