Chapter 25 - Is she Insane? Or is she the most Sane?

Samantha Carter, a woman who prided herself on her intelligence, her use of logic and ability to adapt in any situation, was stumped. Her day had been normal so far, filled with monotonous tasks that ensured that her team would be capable of doing the truly interesting aspect of their jobs, exploration.

SG3 had come back under fire, a Goa'uld having most likely been tipped off to their presence. From there it should have been the same old tasks... Ensuring that the DHD was working correctly with the base's systems, triple checking the Dialling program for any bugs or errors and then off to the cafeteria for some lovely apple pie and perhaps a steak.

Like most things in their line of work however, that plan didn't pan out.

She had begun the proper procedures after General Hammond had asked for a full diagnostic, the system's code completely familiar to her as she had been the one to fully restructure and rewrite it. That was when everything took a turn towards the bizarre and concerning.

"HUH!?" She was so startled by the glowing red text between her and the computer that she launched backwards and fell off of the wheeled office chair. Her blue eyes were pinned to the text that had followed after her, the other airmen and women standing and looking in her direction; if not already standing and rushing over to help her.

"Major? Are you okay...?" Walter, the main man that dialled the Stargate, hovered over her with concern etched onto his grizzled face.

Glancing between him and the text she blinked several times, her shock quickly being subsumed by her curiosity and concern.

"C-can you see this Walter?" She pointed to the text that was hovering in front of her face.

"Ummm... I don't know what you are talking about Major. Is it the computer you're talking about?" Her right eye twitched as the text just hung there in mid-air, the other staff all looking at her in concern and trepidation.

"No. I'm talking about the hovering words right in front of my eyes..." She paused to look at his facial features, his eyes narrowing in confusion and increasing worry. "I'm assuming you have no clue what I'm talking about?" He licked his lips nervously before shaking his head.

"I-I think I need to see Janet..." No one argued with her as she stood up and quickly rushed off towards the medical ward of the base.

Five Minutes Later

"I don't know Janet, it was just, I was working on the diagnostics for the Star Gate... Extrapolating the feedback system between the gate and the base's power grid before these words just showed up in front of me..."

Janet, the doctor for the base, stood in front of her and shone a small light into her eyes as she shat on one of the beds. She hummed at her words before pocketing the light and crossing her arms underneath her breasts.

"What do these words say? I know I'm perhaps not the most qualified but if this is an alien device, program, whatever, then it would be better to start with what it is showing you and we can work from there." Samantha, Sam for short, facepalmed in frustration as she finally settled down enough to think things through logically.

"Why didn't I think of that?" Janet just raised a single eyebrow as she waited.

Sam immediately looked at the words that hovered off to the side, their crimson colour slightly pulsating as she stared.

"The first line says: Attention, you are connecting to the Multiversal Chat Room..."

The doctor frowned in thought and inclined her head as if to ask her to continue.

"The next says: Connecting... , and, Connection Accomplished, Fetch Completed. Then it just asks me to state my name." Sam slowly began puzzling her way through it as the doctor hummed in contemplation.

She was pouring through the possibilities of a Multiversal chatroom actually existing when the blast doors of the room opened to admit General Hammond, Jack O'Neill, Teal'c and Daniel Jackson.

"Sup Doc! How's our favourite patient? Are all her marbles there?" Of course Jack chose to break the ice with some rather quizzical jokes... Something she had always enjoyed about his presence despite the fact he hid his intelligence behind the veneer of a jokester.

Janet naturally rolled her eyes before turning on him. "She's fine Colonel, better than you will be after I finally get a physical from you." He grimaced and backpedalled a touch as the others walked past him in exasperation.

"Major Carter, are you well?" Teal'c questioned softly yet sternly, his concern shining through in the way his eyes assessed her for injuries or damage.

"I'm fine Teal'c, just had a scare is all... Y'know, glowing words aren't supposed to just appear out of nowhere, and all." He inclined his head, the golden symbol of his past enslavement shimmering in the light of the desk lamp.

"What do these words say Sam? Are they in Goa'uld or maybe Asgardian?" Daniel was perhaps too much of a nerd and jumped straight to the part that concerned him the most, languages and history, a trait she usually sympathised with as she was absorbed in physics and other scientific pass-times just as much as he was. Now, well, she was just a touch annoyed that he jumped straight to the thing that still made her a bit uneasy.

She coughed as the General finished questioning Janet and focussed once more on her and the conversation she was sharing with Daniel.

"The words are in English and have an almost Commercial feel to their syntax. It says that I am connecting to a 'Multiversal Chatroom' and that it wishes for me to state my name. It also said I was connected to whatever is creating these words." Hammond sighed deeply before frowning. He moved to the wall and picked up an emergency phone at the door, speaking to the command room about something.

"Hmmm... Multiversal, what does that mean?" Jack tried to come up with an answer but was stopped by Sam herself as she began explaining the concept.

"Remember when we picked up that mirror that could access other versions of Earth?" Everyone nodded.

"Well, in the theory that supports that mirror's existence there is a super structure known as a Multiverse. The Multiverse is a metaphorical dimension, space or location that houses all of the uncountable possibilities of the future, present and past."

Jack interrupted abruptly... "In English please!"

She rolled her eyes and then adjusted her position on the bed.

"Think of it like this: There is our Earth where we discovered the Stargate... But another Earth that didn't inside a place known as the Multiverse." He blinked and then scratched his head.

"So it's like that one episode of the Simpsons!" Everyone rolled their eyes and internally groaned at the man's comparison.

"Sure Jack. The main thing to take away from this is that something is able to reach out from different versions of our reality into adjacent or completely different versions." Daniel was nodding before excitement sprang up from within him.

"You said chat-room right?" She nodded before blinking again and grinning.

"I like where you're going with this Daniel... You think I can chat with the people who made the chat room and discuss why I am a part of it?" He grinned, which was all the confirmation she needed.

"General, do you think I can enter my name and try to make contact?" Hammond stood still for a moment, the phone long having landed back on the wall.

"Sure, however, I want Dr Fraiser and at least one other member of your team nearby at all times to monitor you and ensure that you are safe."

"Understood sir." He nodded before grabbing Teal'c and Jack, their conversation turning towards the potential security hazards that could come from this and the delayed mission to P-3X448 tomorrow.

It was at this moment the words rotated and sat in front of her, as if it knew that she would be responding at this moment.

"Major Carter."

She was flabbergasted by the direct change of her stated name to her full name and rank. Very little time was given for her to complain however as the 'chat room' popped into existence before her eyes... The chat itself lighting up with emojis and words that she was slowly working through.

Tony Stark- Apparently all you need to quell a massive Godzilla-sized energy being of nothingness is to take away its toys... Who knew?

Drecarios Frost- I need... A shower... And a sleep...

Tony Stark- Aren't you on your way to a barbecue?

Drecarios Frost- Ffffffff-fuck

Jester Lavorre- HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHA 🤣🤣🤣🤣

She looked over to Janet who was monitoring her and hooking up sensors to her arms and head. The woman noticed her gaze and ceased for a moment.

"What's wrong Sam?"

"Well, It's a chatroom alright... But I'm not sure if they're all sane."

Sam watched as the chat continued on.

Loki Odinson- Finally I am back in Asgard. Now I can have a bath with the maid-servants.

Shiroe of Log Horizon- Thanks for all the help on the mission guys, the war wouldn't have been nearly as easy if you didn't all come and help

Drecarios Frost- Is no... Problem... I need a bath

Tony Stark- Look Elsa, just stay there and chill out for a few more days. The time is still stopped for a week so you can afford to recover

Jester Lavorre- I'm GoNnA gO Back YoU GuYs! I nEED some sleep! 😪😪

Loki Odinson- It was a pleasure to fight with you Jester, your Seidr was most interesting. Perhaps we can exchange spells at some stage in the future?

Jester Lavorre- Ahhhhh, suuuuuuRE! That Sounds like FUN! AnyWAY Gonna go now! 🎇🎇🎇🎇🎇

"What do you mean they aren't all sane?"

Sam almost felt embarrassed by the level of stupidity that was displayed when 'spells' were spoken about but she powered through and answered her best friend.

"There is a 'Loki' here that speaks about 'Seidr' and Spells... He was saying that another member's Seidr was intriguing and that he wished to meet up with her at some point to learn spells from her."

Daniel rapidly began blinking before he slumped into a chair and began muttering.

"Loki is the god of mischief, magic, fire and trickery in Norse Mythology... Seidr is the magical powers that are attributed to the gods in that mythology and was said to also be the essence of all life and being."

Sam frowned at the fact that someone was taking spells and Seidr seriously... Before she considered the fact that the energy coming from a Goa'uld hand device could easily be misunderstood as magic or this Seidr.

"Do you think this Loki has any relation to Thor in our universe?"

Daniel frowned before shaking his head.

"I don't think so, seeing as how you said this was a Multiversal chat room I find it unlikely that this Loki would know our Thor... Perhaps a version of Thor in his universe but not ours."

"That's what I was saying Daniel... I was asking whether they could have a version of Thor as well... I had an idea that it was the case but wanted an extra opinion."

He awkwardly rubbed the back of his head. "Sorry."

Drecarios Frost- Is anyone going... To talk about... Gandalf?

"They are talking about Gandalf now?"

Daniel recoiled in amazement and complete and utter confusion.

Gandalf The White- I am present, however, I am currently gathering the riders of Rohan to save their king Théoden at Helms Deep

Drecarios Frost- Good, I'm not insane

Tony Stark- Good luck Ian McKellen!

"And they are actually speaking with Gandalf the White... What is this day...???"

Everyone still in the room with her was stumped at the fact that Gandalf could even exist out there in the multiverse and that people in the same chatroom that she was in were speaking with him as if he were an old buddy.
