Chapter 11 - Cursed boot 1

We arrived at school. I couldn't lie that I didn't realize the way people were staring at us, and gosh, how annoying it was.

One of the reasons why I actually love boys' clothes was because it covered my body and there were literally nobody staring at me.

Because anytime people stare, I felt like digging a hole and burying myself in it... it may sound awkward, but I never really liked attention — that's like Clara's thing.

I stopped my thought as I watched the most annoying student in my life walk towards us.

Uh, Lucas.

He was handsome though, but annoying. He actually called me a donkey brain just because I tripped and splashed water on him at the school café. It was embarrassing.

I just wish he would just pass us... oh, here we go now.

"Hi girls," Lucas said while smirking as Clara and Lyda came to stand in front of me.

"What do you want, Lucas?" Clara said, crossing her hands on her chest.

"Nothing, girls," he said as he removed the gum in his mouth throwing it into the nearest trash bin.

Gross!! But good aim.

"I just wanted to tell Maria that she looks freaking hot today. Didn't know you got this type of body, you know," Lucas said making me roll my eyes , trying hard not to smack my forehead at the audacity.

I pushed my friends a little as I came to stand in front of them while giving them a reassuring look.

"Thank you, but no thanks. I don't need your compliment," I said curtly , my friends nodded by my side , turning back to Lucas, who seemed less offended by our words.

"Mhm, even confident... the Maria I know would have taken a run for it right now... hah, chicken," Lucas said, staring in space like as if he was remembering an old funny memory as he turned back to us smiling stupidly.

I could already guess what that memory was of.

"Yeah sure, Lucas, you are right. I'm new, changed, improved Maria. The old Maria would have ran away crying under the tree close to the football court or something," I said, trying not to reveal my crying spots.

Oh, how I had many crying spots.

"But now the new Maria would kick any fucking piece-of-trash ass out of her way while telling them how their face sucks. And by now you will already know that you are one of the pieces of trash, so move out of my way before I tell you how miserable your whole life is," I said giving my friends a sideways high five while still staring at Lucas, who was scowling.

"Yes girl ".

"We'll see about that," Lucas muttered as he glared at me before leaving.

"She will see nothing!" Lyda yelled back . We turned back watching him walk away angrily.

"Yeah, and we got a full book about your life history... how miserable it's been," Clara added chuckling , while Lucas kicked a can.

"Lucas: Bored Up, Fucked Up Life" — that's the title, and guess what? No one bought the book. They got so angry at your name they threw it in the trash!" I yelled loud enough so he could hear as he took a left turn.

Some students had already stopped, some laughed while others just nodded at us, passing.

"Guys, did I push my luck too hard?" I whispered to my friends after a minute .

I think I did push my luck . Gosh I was too cut up in the moment .

They placed their hands around my shoulder snapping me out of my thought .

"You did great," Clara said, tapping me as she gave me a high five.

"Even if he did end up making you pay, you just allow your spirit to torment his fucked up life till he withers and fades of stress," Lyda said as we all laughed.

We continue walking down the hallway, until we came across a girl name Aubrey on our way . She waved at us before walking closer to us .

"Hi Lyda," Aubrey said cheerfully grinning from ear to ear .

She was Lyda's friend.

I personally did not like her, and Clara sort of followed me in some of my decisions, so we both don't like her.

I just hate the way she brags so hard about her dad being a billionaire and all that. We weren't even sure, considering the way Lyda said she always changed the topic anytime they suggested a sleepover in her house.

Lyda is such a good snitch.

She never allows them to go to her house, claiming that her dad always had some friends from the high-class societies and how they would spend the night in her house or how she would be spending the night in one of her friend's house — which she comes the following day saying how boring the so-called friend is and how she doesn't have a private butler, a chef, a private dancing team, opera singers, and a whole football court and things like that.

I turned back to them as Clara busied herself with her phone.

Aubrey and lyda chatted for a few minutes, I didn't bother to listen , watching a video on Clara's phone.

Aubrey finally finished whatever she wanted to tell Lyda . She swung her hair - as usual , some hit lyda on the face as she walked away ..

I muffled a luaghter , Clara didn't even try to hide hers , she burst out laughing pointing at lyda face who was scowling with her fist tightly clenched .

Sometimes she doesn't even know she actually did that , she just do it .

"That girl literally gave you hair to eat ".

"Shut up " Lyda muttered gritting her teeth. I finally burst out laughing shaking my head .

After a few minutes of teasing and trash talking Lyda , Clara places her phone in her pockets asking

"What's with her??"

I hung my backpack properly on my left shoulder so it won't fall.

"Just her usual thing and also about sport and how she is planning on cheering for the Raven team."

"Wow, the Raven are going to play against the Hawk. That's nice. Which team is Ken in?" I asked trying my best not to sound eager , I doubt my face did great in that job though .

But I couldn't pretend not to be excited , though . Clara smirked at me while I rolled my eyes sky high .

"Ken? He is in the Hawk. He is so good at volleyball... though that's what they say. I don't come for practice, believe me, I tried hard," Clara said.

She joined the basketball girls' team but only attended twice. She was also part of the Hawk team.

We had two teams: the Ravens and the Hawks, which also played basketball too. There were other groups too, but those were for the amateurs—and by now you will know I mean those people who were born without any form of sport in their lives.

Example: Me.

We had so many sports in school like basketball, volleyball, football, and a relay race — which Clara and Lyda were planning on forcing me to join.

I looked down at my boots as I prayed to the Lord that I wouldn't fall.

"Help me... I promise to go for confession next week," I whispered but Clara and Lyda still heard as they laughed out ,while we walked down the stairs.

"So you haven't gone for confession, Maria?" Lyda said glancing at me . I decided to ignore her not seeing why I needed to answer that question.

"Yeah, I went last month. Father Johnson couldn't handle my confession and I couldn't even stop laughing. He always scrunched his face when I told him about all the things I did last summer — you know about..." Clara was about to say as I stopped her.

"Do I look like a reverend father to you? Stop telling me your secrets. You are adding more sins to mine," I said, covering my ears as Lyda and Clara laughed again .

They took a few steps ahead of me . Adjusting my backpack I jogged towards them but then I stepped on something _ I think it was my shoelace a little, which was untied.

I almost tripped but Clara was quick enough to grab my arm . Taking a deep breath to steady myself ,I muttered a thank you while she nodded .

I stood up as I bent down carefully, tying my shoelace. Sighing ,I finally stood up sharing a look with my friends who still had a frown .

"Is it too late for me to take off these shoes? Because I actually kept a sandal in my backpack in case of such incident," I said as Clara and Lyda shared a look.

We watched Aubrey run towards us again as she said,

"Lyda! That boy Ken — he just arrived now with the rest of the team and gosh, my babe is also there. I really have to run so I could catch up with him and give him a good luck kiss before the match starts," Aubrey said to Lyda, bidding her goodbye before skipping away.

I stared at her for a minute shaking my head at how absurd girls sound like .

Did she really hear herself .

Cause in my ears , all I heard was gibberish - blah blah blah .

Good luck kiss and hug ...that so stupid . If he was meant to lose , girl he would .

"Little Miss Stupid just gave me an idea. Clara snapped her fingers loudly jolting me out of my thoughts . I turned to her with a frown as she continued. Maria, don't take off your boots. Hurry inside and go meet Ken to give him a good luck kiss too, while me and Lyda go to the café to get four bottles of water — one for me, Lyda, you, and Ken," Clara said hurriedly, Lyda actually nodded to what she said like she said something reasonable.

And before I could tell her bluntly I was never going to do that , they left by taking the stairs again .

I opened my mouth like a fish _ twice actually.

Clara just said nonsense !!!!

Who was giving a kiss to who !!!.

I laughed out . Not because it was funny - okay little , but that was totally NEVER going to happen .

Until pigs fly , that's when .

I stood at the spot as I sighed.

"They should just become Cupid instead of finding a perfect sport," I muttered as I looked at my shoes again.

"Oh Lord, please help me. I don't want to embarrass myself and maybe annoy Ken into thinking I'm a fool," I said as I closed my eyes, offering a silent prayer before opening them back up.

I walked slowly to the door, opening it widely before closing it back up, making sure not to run again and end up falling.

"I pray Lyda and Clara will arrive soon before the game starts," I muttered, walking to the field quietly.
