Motivation .
I took in a breath before letting it out standing close to the water wearing my swim suit which was a tight-fitted garment which looked like a baby romper or something .
I wore my goggles to protect my eyes and then the swim cap , the swimsuit was red in colour so as all the contestant .
I snapped out of my thought glaring at Clara who gave me a thumbs up and then Lyda who smiled watching them share a look before giggling .
Weirdos I thought rolling my eyes , I turned to ken who smiled at me encouragingly sending a playful wink .
I cleared my throat with wide eyes turning back to the water .
Damn that boy woudk be the end of me .
It somehow boost me up and also made me nervous . What if I drown in this pool and he leaves me the next day !!!!.
I know.mu thought were getting wild and spiralling ..but don't blame me I didn't prepare .
Taking in two deep breath, I turned to the announcer which was the head boy Marcus before he said .
"The competition would now begin ,here are the students who would be participating in this year school swimming competition" Marcus announced as the student erupted in a cheer while some clapped too before the place turned quiet enough to hear the upbeat if the music .
"Here are the names of the contestant .. Dorothy said pausing to look at her book before clearing her throat she continued .
" first contestant is Juliet Matson .
Second contestant is Adela smith .... Dorothy stopped hearing the student clap which stopped after a few minutes but then Adela friend had to over do it as they continue clapping before stopping , smiling stupidly they gave Adela a thumbs up .
I watch Adela smile cutely which made me cringe
Damn ,I couldn't lose to this little child here I thought rolling my eyes back still staring at the water.
I turned to Dorothy watching her clear her throat before she continued " third contestant is maria Wilson " she said as my friends clapped before stopping quickly .
"And then the last in the list is Eleanor king " she said while I frowned turning to see Eleanor .
I didn't know the quiet girl in my class was competing either way I got to win not because of my friends ..okay a little bit because of my friend and also to impress ken .
Duhh I didn't say that out loud though .
I blushed at my thought I was really confused .
I deny it out in the open while I think about it happening in my mind sighing I decided to focus on the competition at hand .
Less I would probably see ken in the water - and only the heavens know what would happen next !!!!.
Marcus continued.
" let's start now , contestant would dive in after the count of three " he said as I steadied myself ,this time I heard both Marcus and Dorothy voice as they said .
"At the count of one , two , ..THREE " they both said in unison blowing the whistle out ,the contestant quickly dived in .
I swung my leg in rhythm as I moved my hands at my side in the same rhythm with legs swimming as fast as i could .
"Yeah we can see contestant number two taking a lead in this game but contestant four is battling hard to fight for the winning spot" Marcus said while Clara and Lyda chewed their nails in panic.
"She would end us and also would be sad if she loses " Lyda whispered - yelled to Clara who slapped her shoulder lightly .
"That won't happen ,be optimistic " she said watching the swimmers knowing fully well that maria wasn't winning .
Girl try harder she thought .
I closed my eyes thinkng ,after hearing Marcus words .
I need to up my pace after taking two deep breath I snapped my eyes open as I tried imagine myself being in the beach with my mom and then my brother I didn't know when my arms and leg started moving faster but it felt like i was in my own dream state imagining myself in the water at the beach .
"Wow I think contest number three isn't giving up ". Marcus said.
" contestant number three seemed to have been trying to take a rest , caus she is upping her pace " dodrothy laughed out high giving Marcus who had a grin as she continued . " and now she is now taking over the lead ...oh wait there I can see contestant three reaching the finish line ".
" yes contestant number two and number three are battling for the first position this is so interesting " Marcus said chuckling a little before he stopped .
I open my eyes this is for you ken I thought
I moved seeing myself getting to the wall I increased the speed of my arms and legs throwing them out in the same rhythm .
" contestant three has taken over the lead..." Dorothy said as a cheer erupted .
"Oh she is going to win yeah she is near she is going to win " Marcus said as Lyda and Clara shared a looked watching maria who had already reached the finish line .
"Oh she got it "Clara and Lyda said hugging each other as a cheer erupted seeing maria had reach the finish line followed by Eleanor who happened to have passed Adela since Adela had started off using so much speed there by making her come out in third place and Juliet as the last .
I gave my hand to one of the girl who stood at my end climbing out of the water .
I was giving a towel as I wrapped it around my body hearing the loud cheer ..
I won .
I FREAKING WON .
ME !!!
A grin spread across my face as I started laughing.
I couldn't help it , I was suprised - that wasn't the word flabbergasted.
I didn't even think I would end up third .
But this was great - guess Clara and Lyda was right about me having one perfect sport .
I turned to where the student were sitting ,some other teachers . With a grin , I did a full bow while they clapped loudly .
This felt great .
This was really good I got to admit it _ real good .
We stood at the front of the judge table as Marcus and Dorothy came to stand in front of us .
" that was sooo nice " Marcus said while Dorothy added .
"And interesting " .
" maria came out first and you performed really well" Dorothy said with a grin standing in front of me .
She really loved her job so much - her and that weird Marcus guy .
"I hereby give you this golden medal as the first in this swimming competition "she said taking the metal from Marcus , she wore it round my neck .
I couldn't stop mys ekf from touching it . Gosh ghsu felt really good .
And I was happy , I won.
Without practice, nothing ...
Maybe the saying is right _ sometimes it's not all about practice, but experience.
And damn swimming was actually my niche.
She walked to Eleanor.
" Eleanor you did so well and i hereby give this medal out to you for coming out second place " Dorothy said giving Eleanor a silver metal as second place .
Adela and Juliet weren't giving metals since that was the rule , metals were only giving to the second and first position ..which placed Adela as the last position .
Nothing had ever made me so happy than watching Adela stomp her feet on the ground like a child before she left the place followed by her friend .
"I wonder when those girls would get a life " I thought staring at her friends . I walked to my friends swinging my towel with a grin .
