Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: The Golden Silence

Chapter 1: The Day the World Stood Still

The Chaos of the Auction House

The air inside the Human Auction House was thick with the smell of ozone and the heavy silence of a shattered taboo. On the floor, a Celestial Dragon—the "God" of the world, Saint Charlos—lay unconscious, his face mangled by a single, devastating punch.

Luffy stood over him, his chest heaving, his eyes still burning with a protective rage for his friend Hachi. Behind him, the Straw Hat crew was in a state of high-alert panic.

"Luffy! Do you have any idea what you just did?!" Nami's voice was a frantic whisper. She wasn't just worried about the local guards; she knew that hitting a World Noble was the ultimate sin. "The Marines... the World Government... they're going to send everything they have after us!"

Luffy adjusted his straw hat, his jaw set. "I don't care. He hurt Hachi."

"We need to get out of here before the military surrounds the grove!" Sanji shouted, kicking a guard aside. "Everyone, move toward the exit!"

But as they burst through the heavy doors and out into the bright, bubble-coated sunlight of Sabaody, the world they expected to find—a world of screaming civilians and charging Marine platoons—was gone.

The Great Fracture

The world didn't scream. It fell into a paralyzing, absolute silence.

Thousands of people in the plaza—bounty hunters, noble tourists, and hardened pirates—were all frozen in place. Their heads were tilted back, their eyes fixed on the sky with an expression of pure, primal confusion.

"What... is everyone looking at?" Usopp stammered, his hand on his slingshot.

He looked up, and his heart nearly stopped.

The sapphire sky of Sabaody was cracking. It looked like a mirror being struck by an invisible hammer. From the jagged fissures, a flood of liquid gold poured out, defying gravity as it swirled and coalesced. Within seconds, massive, translucent golden screens—vast enough to cover entire city blocks—manifested in the air.

They weren't just on Sabaody. In that same heartbeat, these golden "monitors" appeared in the center of every village in the East Blue, above the desert dunes of Alabasta, and over the snowy peaks of Drum Island.

"What kind of Devil Fruit is this?" Franky shouted, his mechanical eyes whirring as he tried to analyze the light. "Is it some kind of projection? A giant Den Den Mushi?"

"No," Robin whispered, her hand trembling as she stared at the screen hovering between two giant mangroves. "There is no source. No light beam. It's as if the world itself is... projecting this."

The Panic of the Powers

At the Marine Headquarters in Marineford, the elite of the world were gathered for a war they thought they understood. Over a hundred thousand Marines stood in the plaza, prepared to face Whitebeard to execute Ace.

Fleet Admiral Sengoku stood on the execution platform, his face pale as a massive golden screen materialized directly in front of him, blocking his view of the soldiers.

"Is this a pirate attack?!" Sengoku bellowed, his voice cracking with uncharacteristic stress. "Science Division! Report! Is this a weapon from the New World?"

"We don't know, sir!" a panicked officer shouted. "Reports are coming in from every base! Enies Lobby, Impel Down, even the Four Blues... these screens are everywhere!"

Beside Sengoku, Vice Admiral Garp sat on the execution bench. He wasn't laughing or eating his crackers. He stared at the screen with a deep, unsettling dread. He had fought the strongest men in history, but he had never seen anything that felt so... objective. It didn't feel like a person's power. It felt like the truth of the universe was breaking through.

The New World's Confusion

On the deck of the Moby Dick, the Whitebeard Pirates were in an uproar.

"Pops! Stay back!" Marco shouted, his arms flickering with blue flames as he stood between his captain and the golden screen hovering over the ship's figurehead. "It might be a trap from the Marines!"

Whitebeard stood tall, his eyes narrowing. He gripped his bisento, feeling the air. There was no killing intent. No malice. Only a heavy, suffocating weight of Haki that seemed to emanate from the light itself.

"Quiet, my sons," Whitebeard's voice boomed, though his eyes remained fixed on the golden surface. "Look at the air. No man has the Haki to cover the entire ocean like this. This isn't a trap. This is a change."

Across the sea, on a desolate island, the "Red-Haired" Shanks paused, his hand moving to the hilt of Gryphon. He looked at the screen and felt a shiver go down his spine. The world he had been trying to keep in balance was suddenly being judged by something he couldn't control.

Then, as the entire planet watched in breathless terror, the first words began to etch themselves onto the golden glass.

The Words That Shook the World

As the golden screens stabilized, a series of symbols began to glow on the translucent surfaces. They weren't written in any modern alphabet, yet they resonated directly within the minds of every living being.

[THE HEAVENLY GOLD LIST OF LEGENDS]

[Scope: Every Soul in the History of the Sea.]

[State: Evaluating the 'Prime' Potential of All Sovereigns.]

Across the globe, the confusion turned into a sharp, icy realization. This wasn't just a phenomenon; it was a judgment.

The Reaction of the Sovereigns

In the New World, the three remaining Emperors of the Sea watched with varying degrees of intensity.

On Whole Cake Island, Big Mom (Charlotte Linlin) swatted away a tray of desserts, her massive eyes bulging. "A list? A ranking of the strongest?! Prometheus! Zeus! Is my name at the top? It better be #1, or I'll tear that screen out of the sky and eat it!"

On the jagged peaks of Onigashima, Kaido let out a huffy, drunken growl. He gripped his spiked club, Hassaikai, his aura flaring. "The 'Prime' state? You mean to tell me this thing can see the peak of a man's life? If Roger and Whitebeard are on there, I'll find a way to drag their ghosts out for one last fight!"

Near a peaceful island, the Red Force sat motionless on the waves. Shanks stood at the bow, his usual calm replaced by a grim curiosity. He looked at his crew—Beckman, Roux, Yasopp—all of them silenced by the sheer scale of the event. 'A list of history,' Shanks thought, his hand tightening on his sword. 'If the 'Void' is included in this... the world will never be the same.'

The Loners and the Giants

In the middle of the ocean, a small coffin-shaped boat bobbed on the tide. Dracule Mihawk sat perfectly still, his yellow eyes reflecting the golden glow. He didn't reach for Yoru. Instead, he simply watched. "The 'World's Strongest' is a heavy title," he whispered to the wind. "Let's see if the Heavens agree with the world's assessment."

In the snowy mountains of Elbaf, the massive Prince Loki threw his head back and laughed, a sound that shook the very glaciers. "A ranking of Sovereigns! Finally, a chance to show those 'puny' humans that the Giants are the true masters of the world! If my father isn't on that list, I'll claim the spot myself!"

And in a Impel Down, Buggy the Clown was screaming.

The Ticking Heart of the Era

On Sabaody, Luffy tilted his head, his face scrunched in confusion. "Prime? What does 'Prime' mean, Robin? Is it like meat?"

"No, Luffy" Robin whispered, her brow furrowed as she translated the shimmering text. "It says the List evaluates the 'Total Essence' of a soul. It's not just who they were or who they are... it's the absolute peak of power that soul is destined to carry. It's as if the heavens are looking at a person's entire existence as a single finished book."

Zoro's eyes flashed. "The strongest in history, huh? That means even the dead ones."

Suddenly, the text on the screens flickered and vanished, replaced by a massive, pulsing countdown clock. The numbers were red against the gold, ticking down with a heavy, rhythmic thump that echoed in the ears of every human, giant, and merman alive.

The world didn't resume its business. The Marines at Marineford didn't continue their drills. The pirates on Sabaody didn't keep running. The entire planet had been given a twenty-four-hour notice.

The era of secrets was over. The Era of the List had begun.
